Your videos are THE best cycling videos on RUclips bar none! I love watching them. You are brilliant in front of the camera and so natural and totally unscripted it seems. You are a true inspiration to us all. One thing that baffles me though is the fact that you don't get as many views as other (much poorer) videos? It's a pity but it's their loss. Anyway, Keep going mate and keep us all entertained, enthralled and on the edge of our seats! Your videos make me want to go out in all weathers - except at night! You are a true inspiration!
Hey, thanks for the awesome comment and vote of confidence! Very happy that you like the channel, yep I don't know why I don't have millions of views too :) But put the word around and maybe I'll get there soon! Fingers crossed there'll be a bit of night riding coming up in a few weeks' time, by the way, I won't say where to right now but hopefully a good one. Cheers for watching and happy riding yourself!
Glad you like it Michael and thanks for watching. Hopefully not too long until the next one but I'm going a bit easy right now because I don't want that cough to come back.
Seeing this contentment and happiness after that starvation in the cold is so nice. What an accomplishment in nasty winter wind. Such a great accomplishment. Now I managed to joyn all your human powered journeys you loaded up so far and everyone was a pleasure. Thanks for sharing that, I guess you are one of the toughes badasses on RUclips. Liebe Grüße🙋♀
Hey thanks for watching and I'm glad you like the human powered journeys! The channel is quieter than I'd like right now because my computer is at the shop getting fixed but there's one video half-made and another one in the camera. So, hopefully more to come. Not sure about being a tough badass, though!! :)
Another stimulating video, gosh you really know how to do big mileages. I am particularly interested in bike bits- could you consider making a video setting out what kit you use e.g. frames, tyres & how you set yours up, gearing and so on. Thanks for the videos !
Cheers! Yes, that was a good ride, although Wales chucked some more testing stuff at me a few weeks later. I'm a bit behind on your Spanish content, but will catch up soon. I love riding in the Basque country!
@@londoncenturies Yep, it's only been a month and I'm itching to get back! I might have to stick to Blighty for the mo and get back to basque country later in the year, such a special place.....
I'm on a binge catch-up having been reaquainted with your channel by the algo after too long a gap. I'm typing as I watch, principally for your algo (every little helps) - sounds like a really tough long weekend for you so I'd better buckle up😅!
Whoa, yes, that was a great weekend. I was lucky with the weather really, for the time of year. I can handle a bit of cold (usually) but it's the endless soakings that do me in... Thanks for watching!
You’re nuts 😂😂. What a great ride. Shame you could not do it in Summer when you’d have more light. Thoroughly enjoyed the vlog like usual. Great content and well done on the distance .
😅 Hey Phil, glad you enjoyed it again! I've got some good plans for the summer, too - I'm sick of this winter, I want it to warm up a bit and get longer days. Channel's very quiet right now because my computer's at the shop being fixed but there'll be more vids along at some point. Thanks for watching and hope you're riding well yourself.
Another great ride, thanks for sharing. When you started i thought you were wearing a clerical collar and you reminded me of Geoffrey Howard. Read his book 'Wheelbarrow Across The Sahara'.
I've just looked that up (I'd never come across him before) and it looks amazing. Not sure if I should read it or not, it might be a bit too... inspiring?
O man, so delighted to see you back and doing another crazy ride! Kidlington Sainsbury's just happens to be where I get my weekly shopping from! One of the best things about night riding is that you more or less have the roads to yourself - even the main ones - which helps with pacing (but is a problem with resupplies - so your soup was such a good idea). The fact that you then went on to ride a 200k the next day suggests that you are already in good shape for the qualifiers. Am a little concerned by your cough and heavy breathing. Worth getting that checked out? Anyway, chapeau to you, and hope to see you at PBP.
Kidlington Sainsbury's was a very welcome port in the storm the other night when it was cold and dark almost everywhere else. I'd hoped to find the chippy up the road but it was closed (and the store manager was friendly too). Some of the Cotswolds roads were way too small, almost rough farm tracks, for that time of night, I've got to get better at route planning. And my cough IS threatening to come back so I want to be careful of that. But yes, see you at PBP!!
Julia, I stood and looked at the ice cream - it looked really nice, they had all the flavours, but I was so cold I just couldn't! So I had two hot chocolates instead... :)
excellent work. stoked to see you back in action. i really enjoy watching your vlogs. looking forward to a terrific season ahead. safe and wonderful travels. all the best, rob #everyrideisepic
Please come home dad we miss you it’s been 8 months in abermythwyth now. Mummy’s drinking and getting violent, also uncle toms been spending time with mummy. 3:00
Man, do you feel like a champion after this? I felt like one after running up Constitution Hill without any breaks haha This is a different kind of pain, definitely not my cup of tea. I prefer shorter, intense challenges. I do admire it :)
Hey thanks for watching and leaving the comment. Yep, that one felt good to get to the sea. Short and intense is HARD that's why I go long these days!! Cheers
I bet that breakfast never tasted so good. You’re showing the world just how much you really don’t need a car. I’d love a walk round video of the bike. Btw what’s an Audax?
Oh yes, that was a decent breakfast! Audax is a non-competitive cycling discipline - basically, riding a long way (sometimes a VERY long way). The biggest UK audax is London-Edinburgh-London (held last year) but the granddaddy of them all is In France: Paris-Brest-Paris (approx 1200km) and it’s in August and I’m going to try to qualify for a place.
Chapeau 👏🏼 Or as they say in Aberystwyth ’Da iawn’. I know there’s a follow on vlog coming, but really interested to know how you got on with Andy Cox’s Taith Mynydd Canolbarth Cymru? Did you ride home afterwards too? Final question, do you have Welsh heritage? Your pronunciation of place names is ardderchog 👍🏼
Oh wow, thanks! No, no heritage really but many years ago I worked in Brecon and got to love this part of the world very much. Wish I could speak the language but sadly can’t. Andy’s ride was a blast, really good, and there’ll be a vid on that soon. I wasn’t quite up to riding home afterwards, I wanted to let myself recover properly before work on Monday but actually ended up riding to Shrewsbury to get the train (dreaded bus replacement service from Aber on Sunday) which although short was wonderfully scenic.
Now this was a bit intimidating. 370 K´s in January? Overnight? Doing another Audax the next morning? And I was proud that I kept on riding in January ... 🤯
Just checked: this one was average speed 17.8km/h, average moving speed 20.3. So not exactly in hyper-drive!! But that one was all about just keeping moving. I'm thinking that later in the year when it's warm I'll be able to kip a few hours here and there if necessary but it was so cold out, it would have been dangerous. So - plod, plod, plod...
@@londoncenturies Thanks for checking for us. Haven't cycled properly in over a decade but given the cost of fuel, and my growing gut, I'm thinking that maybe I should look into doing my long trips on the bike instead, lol. These little adventures seem like they'd be quite liberating in a way, away from the motorways. Do you use a specific app to plan routes?
Oh wow. You cannot believe how happy your comment makes me! Obviously I have several reasons for doing this channel but part of it is EXACTLY what you just said. Obviously it’s not practical to head off by bike every time you need to travel but I do believe we underestimate what we’re physically capable of (particularly if we’re not in a hurry and not racing) and, the good bit, is that it’s really fun to have an adventure every now and then!! Thanks for watching! 😀

Kudos for riding overnight in January!! Really well done.

Love this one mate. Aberystwyth looks lush, even in January 🤟Inspiring stuff - I might have to get my ass in gear and be valley bound this year 💪

Oh yes it's all about the descents. That one's a good 'un but there are some even better around there, the Welsh mountains are grand.

Do you do requests? Can you do a London - Blandford ? Cheers from the States.

Funny you should say that, Geoffrey. You mean Blandford Forum in Dorset, right? Hmm, I might see what I can do. Watch this space! :)
