FAQ
Why is this video so short?
Of all of the Rise and Fall videos I've done, this covers 8 seasons, 200+ episodes, the main characters (and Thomas), arcs and season 8's Regular Show: In Space. I'm usually used to doing 2-3 seasons.
Did you edit this by yourself?
No.

You were missing the point of those season 7 episodes with Rigby in highschool. The main point was to show Rigby's growth and development as a character. I loved Rigby and Eileen's relationship . I found it really inspiring that the character who was arguably the worst of the two at the start, ended up being the best of the two. Like it was just really nice seeing not only how the immature and selfish guy is becoming more mature and less selfish, but how Eileen encourages him to be a better person, which I'm a sucker for when it comes to romance. I also love the irony how you would think that Rigby would be the one to be bad at relationships, when in reality, Mordecai is the one who's terrible at them, while Rigby gets a lot of character development from them. Plus, Rigby's whole arc is a really good message about how anyone can make something of themselves, you just have to have the right motivation.
that was one of the best things of the show, I dislike a little bit how Mordecai was becoming a bit stale and jerk in comparison, I mean it really works and makes sense to me, cuz he is no longer the "better" one in the duo and feels jealous that he is losing his leader position, but I wished he would have a redeeming conclusion too, that he would perhaps realize how big jerk he is and try to better himself or find himself finding some talent of sorts where he can be good, while still remaining himself, but he just kinda became more of a jerk whenever Rigby started to have success with love life or highschool or seeing him mature, it's his way of sabotaging date like when Rigby did when Mordecai betrayed their friendship in a way, but also he stepped back as main character too in final seasons to make room for Pops and other stuff
@@PersonManManManMan Mordacai is a ssssssiiiimmmmmpppp

This show is one of the most accurate depictions of adulthood I’ve ever seen from a cartoon. These characters don’t feel like they’re fictional, besides the fact it’s a gum ball machine and various animals and all the supernatural stuff, at its core it’s what the title says…a regular show.
Benson: WHEN WILL YOU LEARN
WHEN WILL YOU LEARN THAT YOUR ACTIONS HAVE *CONSEQUENCES*
I can hear his voice
I deadass felt so bad for him 💀
*IS THAT BOM AS UR PFP OMGGGG*
forgive me, im nostalgic
I still don't understand how they got away with saying "You pissed me off".
I think it was written before they made the transition from adult swim
I had no idea they were originally on adult swim. God imagine if the show stayed an adult swim show. Wings could just be booze/any drugs.
It never aired on adult swim, it _was_ but they swapped at some point
Yeah I’ve always wondered about the slight swearing in the first episodes. I didn’t know that it was originally slated for adult swim. I mean, I still don’t but gotta take your word for it as I can’t imagine Cartoon Network would allow that off the rip. It makes more sense that it was intended for a more mature audience in the very beginning
The show was never on adult swim... Guys... They got away with it because the time slot 8pm on Monday nights... But also the first season wasn't censored when it originally aired... Mostly I believe, because back then, cartoon Network didn't care because they were desperate for ratings... But as the show gained ratings and the demographic expanded they were censored and not allowed to do explicit jokes and language... Which led them to do more innuendos...
Season one episodes where censored when they were re aired
Every one is hating on mordecai, but no one mentions how rigby ruined mordecais chances into going into college by forging his letter from college
mordecai killed rigby
Mordecai just got more and more cringey and lame
@Pampered Aliens that episode from s1, the one with fist pump and coffee man. Rigby said "ooo, a contract! Lets sign it" and then later when the coffee man and his assistant ask for his part of the contract, they (M&R) got mad and chase them all the way to the concert. Only to sleep during the concert, thats the most hated moment (imo) during this show.
Yes rigby did a crappy thing but he way more supporting friend , he actually likes mordecai . Mordecai is a jerk to him an is only friends with him to make himself look better an smart. Once rigby grows up he can’t take it he didn’t even go to his graduation
@@jborrego2406 can’t spell and saying all this 😂 They are both flawed characters and both did shitty things. The fact that they ended off still being friends shows that they moved past all that. He did go to his graduation after he realized how selfish he was being and he was never friends with Rigby because he made him look smarter, he just liked that it did.
Regular Show was something that came out at the right time (with the turn of cartoons and 80’s nostalgia turning for the best) and ended at the right time (with people who grew up watching grew up with the characters in terms of development).

Regular Show was ahead of its time since the 80s revival era started a couple years after the show premiered. It was also just an incredibly well made cartoon that a lot of people loved and still love.
The scene where Benson broke down was his best scene in the series, and one of the overall best scenes in the series.
I used to hate that scene because Benson was my favourite character and id never seen him so emotional before.

Nightmare - Yes! That scene was *actually hilarious* all around coming from this show. But I don't know why a lot of people didn't find it legit funny. I love that no matter how weird Regular Show got, it's writing remained extremely competent and understandable from the perspective of their universe. It means you don't need an explanation for what's happening. You just need to understand what's happening and you get drawn in by contrasting, well written characters, that while annoying to other characters rarely become annoying to the viewer and its perfect. I could go on about this era of Cartoon Network forever, I grew up with it and it shaped my sense of humor today. I really hope more amazing shows get aired on CN. My childhood still isn't over and to have more well written characters that I can grow with, just as I did years ago, would be very comforting to me and I can image many others

How did my mind subconsciously read that in Pops voice? Like honestly I read the whole sentence normally but those two words rang in my head so loudly
Tbh i didn’t really mind Mordecai’s relationships, that happens. I appreciate that at the end he didn’t end up with Margaret, she just became apart of the past like most people in our lives become. Same with CJ.
Agreed. I know a lot of people were upset by him ending with someone different, but I'm glad they took that route. I don't think if he ended up with either CJ or Margaret that the relationship would last with CJ it would've been because of trust issues and Margaret they saw they're future and didn't like it and it's more realistic with him ending up with someone else.
The problem is how they spent so much time in the show hinting that they would be together only to have it not happen. They didn’t even have Mordecai end up with CJ. I didn’t like CJ only because she got violent when angry and that screams toxic.
It’s fine if Margaret isn’t who he ends up with later in life but at least have it happen in the show if you’re gonna spend so much time building up to it.
Isn’t that life though? You feel as though you spend so much time focusing on the “one” and the whole time the one is some blip in the time span of the rest of your life that ppl don’t talk about as lovingly.
@@googleuser6250 okay, but that’s literally the OP’s entire beef with RS; it got too regular. It wasn’t supposed to be that realistic; we watch cartoons to escape reality for awhile, not live it vicariously. You also have to admit that the whole “Will they, won’t they,” thing with Margaret gets extremely annoying.
C t g s l a y e r - the ""will they, won't they"" mordaret thing and literally making fun of it was *completely* the work of the crappy writers who came in later in the show and finale, and pretty much ruined everything what JG Quintel originally had in mind for his Regular Show when it started out. JG's original idea for Margaret was for her to be a dream girl and who Mordecai would've *always* liked.
But I do agree that cartoons and characters should always, Always be an outlet from reality (especially nowadays) as putting too much reality type stuff into them just kills the enjoyment and imagination.

I'll be totally honest, by the time they went up in space, i became disinterested.but the finale with pops saving everyone was pretty touching.
This show never had a fall… it just ended 💀💀💀
One thing that will always upset me about regular show is how in one episode when Margret and Mordecai are breaking up they show them in the stars talking how they’re going to be together in the future only to end with Mordecai marrying a different person.
Yeah
The future can change you know
I actually like the fact that Mordecai and Margret remained friends and that he married a completely different person. It show that your first, or even second relationship won't always work out.
@@theoxyscape7057 Okay, but if that was the case why was so much attention placed on Mordecai's love life? And why foreshadow as if Mordecai and Margaret are going to end up together?
Don't get me wrong, I understand what you're saying and I very much would probably like the message of it had it been gone about correctly, but it was badly written as far as structure. It was so obvious Mordecai was supposed to end up with Margaret (which JG confirmed that they would have ended up together had Mordecai not screwed up so many times or been so wishy-washy) simply by looking at their designs. (ex., Starla and Muscle Man, Rigby and Eileen) even when they're in space in one episode Mordecai says "I miss her." In reference to Margaret.
Overall, I feel like Regular Show was a great show with a great ending and I still actively watch it, but doing all of that with Mordecai's love life only having him to end up with neither love interest is by far one of the biggest (and imo the only) writing mistakes in the show.
Am I the only one who liked Mordecai with Margaret?
This vid is the length of a movie and Im living for it
It might as well be a documentary lmao
Greg ruls ok?
Margaret was my favorite character and it bummed me out when she had to leave. Then once I thought she would stay, they fricken went to space

Nice to see another Margie fan here. Seriously. I love Margaret too all around. She was well designed both in look and personality and is very hot for a cartoon robin bird gal. And she's my forever RS favorite who's definitely reimaginable. I just wish she had never been essentially pulverized by the fandom when the show was still going. I'll never understand why characters like her get so much automatic hate for no legit reason.
She was mad annoying and kept treating Moredcai like crap

One thing this show did good at was character development. Rigby is a good example as you can think of him as a reverse of Bloo. In the first episodes and seasons, Rigby was a selfish bum who preferred playing video games and would only work if someone told him to. However, as the seasons progressed, Rigby began to mature and showed how willing he was to help his friends alongside developing a good relation with Eileen. Rigby went from selfish and uncaring to one of the best cartoon characters ever

I noticed the rambo reference
The comments he made about that episode shows his age and lack of knowledge on 80’s pop culture.

This show aired right after I had stopped watching cartoons as a kid. I hit that age where you want to start acting older and think cartoons are just for kids 😅. Now that I’m older and have a different perspective, I’ve been watching Regular Show for the first time. I’m bummed I missed it when it aired! It’s a fantastic show and has a timeless feel to it. At least I get to experience it for the first time now though. Currently at the end of season 3 and plan to finish the all 8
"The Rise and Fall of Regular Show: What Happened?'" ok but i didnt see anything about this FALL part you keep mentioning.
I suppose the end was when it fell from CN's airtime.
Yeah I agree! This was just an episode by episode summary of the show without actually saying WHY the show was cancelled. I was expecting behind the scenes drama and information not a summary of a show I've already seen.
Whitney Dahlin it wasn’t cancelled. JG quintel thought he couldn’t do more with the characters and ended the show, be happy that it ended and didn’t do a Simpson’s
Its falling in reverse
The Fall of the show was in Season 7... in the video, this is where Alpha's criticism really gets consistent in how the show started to become more formulaic (e.g. the premise of season 7 episode X could have been in ANY series) rather than following the unique feel the show was building. Due to the long format of the video it might have been easy to overlook this because the explicit "THE FALL" section and title card starts at 1:24:51 of the video.
i remember when regular show was still on the halloween episodes being a part of our yearly tradition with my family, we always had certain shows we watched around holidays and regular show was so good it was one of them, i miss that era of cartoon network
Same here man them holiday episodes made my holiday😂😭😭
Yeah me too
I swear they had THE best holiday specials 🤧
Change this title. The show never fell off
As a young adult who dropped out of college, Mordecai sees himself finally growing up and not happy with how his life was turning out. This was referenced in a few other episodes.
... Did dropping out of college do good for you?
I am facing the same dilemma, it's just not the same as high school, it's torture.
Like when they had to wait for maellards package, how he hated getting paid for stupid jobs, and wanted to do more in life than working at a park, though what I didnt get was him wanting to be a pilot in that episode when hes always wanted to be an artist
Ah yes, I remember many elementary school days of running around the playground during recess and copying every sounds and jokes produced by this show
I had a friend that did this with Ed, from, "Ed, Edd, & Eddy". ...he went so overboard with it, that his mother had a few select words, when she wanted him to stop. And then he would stop. Immediately.
Me in late elementary school: "WOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHH.....!"
and then getting completely ignored realizing barely anyone from your school is cultured.
Dude, I seriously wanna be your friend, I lived through those days doing the same thing you did, I even remember getting into trouble
Omg i did the same thing
One of the best, if not THEE BEST, video analysis of Regular Show I’ve ever seen! I applauded when the video was over because it was done phenomenally
I love how common this plot is:
Mordecai and Rigby slacking off as usual during work
Rigby buys something he sees on the tv that helps with a current situation
Mordecai is kind of doubtful but still kind of agrees anyways (sometimes not)
Causes really big problem that they must fix
They fix the problem ending in the result of destroying something
Benson yells at them and tell them "*CLEAN THIS UP OR YOU'RE FIRED!*"
They go to slack off again
Episode ends
The amazing thing about this show is that it so naturally blended the absolutely absurd with the relatable day to day things. Like one second the characters would be trying to get cake the next they’re in baby gods or something about to die again out of no where and it always just goes together so well, every episode has a good amount of normal and weird that blends together so well it creates a very weird universe. The characters are also so unique and iconic, they are all distinguishable and have very obvious personalities that makes the show very easy to follow.
This show never fell off, it just ended as all things do
When people talks about tv shows jumping the shark or just being soulless and creatively bankrupt, one of the go-to jokes on the subject is "The same show, but in space!".

Okay, mordecai is an ass in the graduation episode, but I always interpreted it as he felt that his underachieving friend was actually doing more for himself than Mordecai has within that same time period and it made him lash out as he was having a bit of an existential breakdown...but that's just me.
I wasn’t able to watch the “glory days” of CN, and I didn’t watch many episodes in order which is why I stopped watching adventure time, but the fact that Regular Show stayed basically the same for the most part (except the last seasons ofc) really was was kept me watching when I was a kid. I found out Regular Show ended maybe a year after it actually did and I watched the last episode for myself, and even though I didn’t understand many of the modern major plot points (like the whole space thing and pops being a god) I still felt sentimental about the ending, because it really just symbolized my childhood. And pops saying that iconic last line in the end was just the cherry on top.
It was a damn fine show.
Rigby is like the devil in Mordecai's head. Always convincing him to do stupid things.
But he also is what Mordecai definetly isn't, first of all, although a bit foolish, he has confidence where Mordecai can't act.
He doesn't take life seriously and all he cares is to do whatever he likes.
But is also naive when Mordecai is suspicious, selfless when Morecai can be petty, ans focused wheb Mordecai can be distracted. He just refuses to grow upwhen Mordecai somehow is always aware that they can not live like that forever
I don't remember Rigby telling Mordecai to go down the path of the simp
EaterOfTacos123 he really only simped over Margaret tho
i disagree with the end of season 7 take on mordecai. He was jealous, not being a jerk for no reason. Mordecai's arc in that episode wasn't about being sad Rigby is gonna leave him alone or something, but it's about his jealousy that Rigby gets the spotlight for once. Mordecai is always seen smarter and a harder worker, and when Rigby is for once, Mordecai is overcome with huge jealousy. He went back for the coffini becuase he felt guilty (rightfully so) and that's the same reason he gave it to Rigby. He was contemplating himself in the van and in front of the graduation ceremony, building up courage to face Rigby. I loved this episode, even though I agree that season 7 took weird options and so did the other aspects of the finale.
I think adding some timestamps would be beneficial on this video. for the first hour this is more of a character analysis than a rise and fall.
The best character development came from Rigby and Eileen.
Mordecai didn't really progress much, if at all, same for Skips.
And the Mordecai love triangle was horrible. I just hated all of it purely because of how badly he went about it.
I guess the one thing that I took away from the show is how much I need a girlfriend, haha.
I love Rigby and Eileen progression it is very wholesome to see how he matures and how she encourages him and is being great waifu material.
I am disappointed tho that Mordecai did not progress, I did not expect him to do much, but imho it would be better that he would get at least a little more mature or self content near end instead of jerk and jealous of Rigbby's success and maturing, plus he faded bit in background in final season.
Love triangle was horrible, when it felt like it is going somewhere and about to happen something, it got more complex and then extended for few more episodes and I have this feel that it could have been better and have more content conclusion, like it was really messy and worst part was that when there was between episodes where romance is not being advanced plot wise it is pain to endure while trying to have fun with regular episodes. It only shows one thing good: Mordecai's indecisiveness and how it can mess up things, and in a way it resembles of real life relationships that they are complex and sometimes messy, but this was taking too long and centered around it too much and was pain to watch and could not wait for it to be resolved to get back to normal adventures.

CJ felt like nothing more than a shoved in plot device to reignite interest in Mordecai’s character arks. Unlike Margaret, there was no substantial build up to the relationship.

I feel like a lot of these criticisms are missing the point/joke lmfao. bensons simulation being super dramatic is the joke, obviously that's not the only way things would happen, his comment about the reaper bots is just irony, and mordecai being outrageously upset at rigbys graduation is supposed to seem ridiculous because it's highlighting the jealous tendencies of mordecai.

I thought it was weird at first but after watching a few episodes, I didn’t think anything of it. Like I remember really enjoying the Fuzzy Dice episode and not giving a second thought about guns being used. It was just a structurally random and fun show for kids to experience.
It was really aimed at adolescent males
