How to fix the "Lost City" part, just have SpongeBob say "I thought the city was supposed to be lost!" When they arrive, just to have a guide/security guard at Atlantic city say that it was lost, but whoever discovered decided to make it a tourist attraction to profit from it...
Or, better yet, don't have it be a Las Vegas type place. Make it more like a village. King Poseidon is shown that he cares about himself a lot more than anyone else, so maybe have it be run down and decrepit.
Maybe have it be considered a "lost" city, as anyone who enters never leaves to tell people about it. Be it getting swept up in all the attraction, or executed/forced into slavery for breaking one of the plethora of rules.
or las and lost sound simmilar so have someone from the city say "yeah that mixup happens alot. this is the LAS city of Atlantis." cementing it being some vegas substitute even more
If there's one thing that can't be denied, it's how beautiful this movie looks. It looks like an intermediary between CGI and StopMotion with vibrant colors and fluid movements
It’s to bad it’s basically a sellout movie. What can be said? Actually, that basically describes the entire SB franchise. I mean, prove me wrong. But If you like modern SB all round then that’s great for you. I’m not trying to hurt someone here. I wouldn’t have an issue with, you know, *gestures at previous comments* If it just was it’s own show! Really. Take modern SB character types, but put them in their own show. THAT would both stop old fans from being mad while keeping new ones in. But noooooo. The showriters (yes I know I spelt that bad) have to base it of a huge franchise, that has lots of fans and notoriety and money. Doesn’t that tell you something about the quality, or at least the intention behind modern spongebob? Why did I make this 3 comments?? *goes to copy paste*
I love how expressive it is. Especially since new spongebob is the same but very obnoxious and over the top, this is quite more grounded. Honestly a shame it was wasted with such a weak plot.
@@mattwhaley1865 i just watched online and this movie was a fucking dissapointment i liked the 1st and 2nd movie better but the 2nd movie sponge out of water was waaay too underrated and underappreciated
Even when Kamp Koral comes out, it makes me happy to know that Stephen Hillenburg KNEW SpongeBob was gonna get more seasons, so he set up the first SpongeBob movie as like the true ending. No matter how many seasons are there after. "But why does plankton keep stealing the formula after the first movie?" Stephen, made it clear in an interview that if plankton is *still* stealing the formula even in season 20 (or "later seasons" during that time), those are just all his past attempts before he discovered Plan Z in the first film. And that the first SpongeBob movie will ALWAYS be the true ending of the series.
That's all just a misinterpretation. Yes, Stephen has stated that he wanted the first movie to be the end of the show, but people interpreted it as the first movie being the last thing in the timeline. That misinterpretation has been spread so much that it's considered true by the fanbase, even though it isn't.
@AlphaMel-2000 No. Like i've mentioned in my previous comment, it's a misconception. Stephen intended the first movie to be the end of the show, not the canonical end.
So, even before he passed we had tidbits in the show that placed eps after the movir due to either mindy just being there the crown and so on. The show moved passed the movie already
Personally for me, I think Plankton not being happy ends up kind of working. The formula was the goal, but Mr. Krabs was who he directed his frustration and anger towards every time he failed. He made Mr. Krabs the villain of his story, and wanted the catharsis of destroying them. But Mr. Krabs was already defeated by the absense of Spongebob, and so in a sense, Plankton got what he set out for originally, but not what he grew to want. He didn't get to ruin Mr. Krabs, and that he probably never will now probably took the rug out from under him. He has the formula, he'll never get his revenge... I can imagine him looking back on his life up until now with a clear mind for the first time in years, if not a decade, and just being lost as to where to go now, with nothing to fulfill him like the rivalry did.
Yeah..while I don't care for the movie, that bit absolutely makes sense. It's a trope even: The villain or hero finally achieves their victory, but everything feels empty. Hell, for an example of this in action: Eggman in the IDW Sonic comics(And by extension, the actual Sonic canon) has pointed out that the reason why he keeps doing this specific song and dance with Sonic is because it's a matter of pride for him, he needs to beat Sonic on his own terms and (in his own words) "prove himself superior". The Joker in Batman has this, too. Plankton didn't prove himself superior here. He didn't show that Chum Bucket was better, he didn't overcome Krabs(Who is his nemesis, while Spongebob is the obstacle). He just took a bottle from a sad, old man.
Fun fact: spongebob has down time on Sunday... his only day off, the episodes where he’s not working is always on Sunday. So how does he have time to do all the things in his routine
This movie was basically the equivalent of a history essay with a good introduction and starter paragraph that is soon followed by random filter put in that doesn’t relate to the theme and is there just to progress the plot. This movie had potential, but it just feels like they were trying to do three different ideas all at once and tried to mesh them together into one convoluted movie. Most of the side plots don’t really relate to the movie’s main plot and are just there as a way for the movie to meet the requirement of being over an hour long
y'know what kind of burns me personally is that the writers actively acknowledge old fans through references and call backs, all while blatantly retconning what was already once established in the show. for example, if you know Reg (who is in the background here for example 40:35 and stands out far more than generic background fish), then you know that spongebob and patrick have been friends since they were babies, and that spongebob met sandy later in life, and blah blah blah. if they want to establish a new canon thats fine, and its not like the series has a strong continuity anyway, but they can't do that while simultaneously making hehe funny jokes for older fans. because then it just feels like a slap in the face.
Literally nothing in Kamp Koral makes sense. - SpongeBob & Patrick have been friends for life. - SpongeBob met Sandy in season 1. - Spongebob got Gary from a snail adoption centre, not from his childhood (Otherwise, Gary would be really old/dead). - Squidward being only a few years older than the rest of the cast makes 0 sense. He is at least 10-20 years older than SpongeBob. He also should be working at the fancy Krusty Krab along with that one fry cook everyone liked. - Krabs and Plankton shouldn't be that young (They're literally 60-70 in the main show), and them being counselors makes no sense. Friend or Foe's flashbacks had occured 40 years prior, by this point they both have their restaurants and Krabs is very successful. - From what I've heard SpongeBob INVENTS the Krabby Patty, which goes against LITERALLY EVERYTHING ESTABLISHED SINCE DAY ONE. Krabs and Plankton invent the Krabby Patty as a mistake, and ONLY EUGENE KNOWS THE SECRET. The only thing SpongeBob does is make the burger, but the meat itself is done by Krabs. The reason why SpongeBob is hired is because he's exceptionally adept at making burgers in mere seconds.
I think Plankton reflecting on his life choices is not a bad idea, but he should reflect after some time has passed. Besides figuring out something he’s been wondering for years, he realizes he’s wasted most of his life doing one thing, and doesn’t know what to do next.
I agree, and it kind of makes sense considering how he did seem to go through a character arc in the previous movie where he realizes that the Krabby Patty is what brings everyone together and wanting it for himself rather than sharing it is selfish and he helps SpongeBob get it back. (Though he does later attempt to steal it again, but I guess old habits die hard, huh) In any case, it does seem like Nickelodeon as of late has been making Plankton less of an evil character and more of a morally grey character. He’s too “bad” to be “good”, but he’s also too “good” to be “bad”. He’s been considered a friend by SpongeBob several times, and he does seem to consider SpongeBob a friend as well, though he seems a bit too stubborn to admit it outright. I think this sort of character direction is really interesting and honestly quite welcoming to me, it’s nice to see Plankton, who’s had quite a lot of abuse on the show, finally have some friends and start to realize maybe the thing he’s been after for so long isn’t what he really wanted. He just wants people to enjoy him and his restaurant as much as they do the Krusty Krab.
I thought it was that the city used to be lost, but like in pop culture everyone heard about it and tried to find it, so it wound up being a tourist trap that still calls itself lost because that's what drew people to visit in the first place, it's sort of their brand.
Squidward saying "who the kelp is that?" hits so differently for some reason. Like, all the fake swears aren't set up in that context to where it's so clear what the character is saying. But for this one instance, it's very clear what Squidward said.
Any of y’all remember that episode where Spongebob mentioned how he got Gary at a shelter, and had a framed picture to prove it? Also, remember how there’s an episode to Spongebob meeting Sandy for the first time? Or the episode about…
Actually the show Kamp Koral explained how sandy could meet Spongebob in the future and in the past. Watch episode 4 Kitchen Sponge. Do you mind if I give you spoilers?
@@aduckwithayoutubechannel In Kamp Koral Plankton is in charge of the cafeteria and isn't evil yet. Spongebob was helping in the kitchen and invented the Krabby Patty too early. Spongebob could only remember the formula if he wrote it down on a piece of paper. Plankton then tried to steal the formula. Past sandy destroyed the formula. Present Sandy told past sandy to go to Kamp Koral to keep the secret formula from being discovered too early.
Or in the movie Mr cabs talks about how spongebob encouraged him to open his own restaurant, but there was a whole episode of the backstory between him and plankton + The Krusty Krab
What I like about how bad the plot of this movie is that you could've replaced Gary with any of the main characters ( or even an inanimate object ) and nothing would've changed. Also out of all the scenes in this movie, I think the saloon scene definitely could've been removed ( or at least heavily changed ) because it barely really served any actual purpose to the story other than adding Keanne Reeves to the story.
My thoughts exactly. That scene existed only because the other two movies had scenes that take place on land too, but they at least serve a purpose in each story.
That Snoop Dogg cameo was bad(don't hate snoop, just hate him in the movie.David Hasslehoff cameo was good because they parodied celeb cameos by making him this godly figure. This just felt so cliche.
Honestly, getting Plankton to help without ruining his character is such an easy change. Since they already established how upset Bikini Bottom is with Spongebob missing affecting the buisness, just make it so the protests don't stop. So even if Plankton had the secret recipe, the people just don't care for anything else and ignore The Chum Bucket.
My answer was a bit different he could just try to make krabby patty’s but they come out awful and he realizes he needs spongebob to make them which is why he goes on the trip
As someone for whom Plankton has been their favorite character for a while now, I actually like that he was so petty that he couldn't accept victory if it didn't get a satisfying enough reaction out of Krabs. Also keep in mind that Krabs himself is fundamentally altered to be more like his S1 counterpart and actually care for SpongeBob, which I think EVERYONE prefers to how he's been characterized ever since.
Honestly, what really bothers me the most is how the voice acting is just slightly off that how it is in the series. Also the way sandy is drawn so detailed with each piece of fur is drawn, it’s just uncomfortable and honestly a little terrifying
Another reason as to why David Hasselhoff was a perfect cameo in the first movie is because him being a lifeguard in that movie is a reference to an older show called Baywatch, a show that has David Hasselhoff playing as a lifeguard.
Speaking of inconsistency and ret-cons, didn’t Spongebob and the gang already go to the lost city of Atlantis? Am I remembering that wrong, or was there in fact a whole special where they go to Atlantis and everyone sings a song and David Bowie does a voice but he doesn’t get a song? That happened right?
Considering the plot rewrites this movie went through (such as the famous alien cat plot), I almost feel like in the end, the writers were like,”fuck it” and just tried meshing the ideas of all three plots into one convoluted story
Thats a good question. Why does plankton put coin slots everywhere. Maybe he's doing it because he knows Mr Crabs would never put a coin into one of those slots. Keeping his stuff safe. But thats just a theory
Yeah. or, plankton is not as smart as he thought he is. Check out all of his schemes in the show. One of the episodes spongebob described a krabby patty and plankton jumped out of him about to eat it, but bounced off into that machine. Plankton: 1% evil 99% hot gas
I can't answer why, but seeing Me Krabs completely defeated and disheveled is so heartbreaking to me. He's been in similar spots before, but he's never looked quite so realistically depressed as he does here.
They could have solved the 'Lost city of Atlantis' plot hole very easily. Make it so the city is not called 'Atlantis' but literally 'Lost city of Atlantis'. The 'Lost' part was added later to attract tourists.
in the spanish version it is called "la ciudad perdida de atlantic city" (the lost city of atlantic city), I didn't know that joke wasn't in the original language
Did anybody else notice that in the movie's Kamp Koral flashbacks, Squidward is one of the young campers, while in The Kamp Koral TV show, he's one of the Counselors? 🤔
Or how about the fact that they actually had child actors to play younger versions of Spongebob and the gang while Kamp Koral brought in the usual voice actors? Not to say that Tom Kenny and the rest of the cast sucked, but it's pretty distracting.
The Plot:King has wrinkles King releases a check to whoever gives him snail will be rewarded Small amoeba gives him snail Crew gets snail back Every becomes friends The end
I watched this movie with my boyfriend when we started dating and then a week later I showed him this review because this video explains exactly how we felt 🤣 we simply called it 90 minutes of NOTHING.
wait dude, that came out in 2004? I would've been 3. I didn't see that movie years later. and I thought it was brand new. it seriously aged well. doesn't look crap at all.
I love this video, but I have complaints on this of my own. Spongebob meets Sandy *for the first time* while she was clam wrestling. Another, it shows Patrick and Spongebob AS BABYS as best friends. Plankton met Sponebob once he joined the Krusty Crew. Squidward met Spongebob once he moved next door. Krabs and Spongebob never were shown meeting. Mrs. Puff met Spongebob when he signed up for boating school.
Is no one going to mention how they made Squidward’s age similar to spongebob and patrick’s in the camp? I would expect squiward to be way older than Spongebob and Patrick to meet them in the camp, but that’s my opinion. 🤷
Squidward is probably in his 30s while SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy are in their early 20s. Pearl is a teenager and Krabs and Plankton are in their 30s-40s ( Krabs might be in his 50s since he seems a bit older than Plankton.
Was it a banger though? At least in my perspective, it didn't have the same vibe as the first. I guess I wanted Sponge Out of Water to continue SpongeBob's arc from the first movie, along with elements from that first film. To me, Sponge On the Run was the closest to feeling like a direct sequel to the 2004 film in terms of story, character development and tone, which is why it's disappointing that Paramount made this a streaming exclusive rather a hybrid release, something that both Disney and Warner Bros. are already doing. But I can understand why you don't like it, there are a lot of story and character problems that maybe needed ironing out with a few more drafts, and hell, I would've loved to see the story with the cats just to see how it would've turned out.
“Wait your gonna replace me with a robot!? DONT DO IT!!” “No silly, that’s gonna happen anyway.” Well dang Sandy you didn’t have to break it to him like that.
I feel this movie is worse purely due to the fact the third act is one big ad. Also the celebrity guests felt incredibly forced, to the point where even if the final result was atrocious at least Sue Nami actually fit into the movie
Then it works for you but for most kids in that audience they're probably more likely to know who Charli demelo and Dixie demolio and Jake and Logan Paul are then they are Snoop Dogg.
Facts: Patrick is a sea star. He has the power of regenerating. If they beheaded him there would just be two patricks Spongebob is a sponge. He doesn't feel pain. You could stab him and he would start laughing. They surrendered with no reason, they could've just beaten up all the guards the king
I feel like the Plankton thing makes sense because his whole life's up to that point has been driven by his deep envy, and suddenly.. that's gone, he's won, he's smashed Krabs. His hesitancy isn't guilt, although maybe there might be some reflection on them having been friends once, it's a, "What the fuck do I do now?" moment
@@ikeadump3265 As much as I hate to reference that, it's like the Coyote skit in Seth McFarland's Calvalcade thing. He gets the Roadrunner, but then his life is just devoid of drive
Is this a "you missed the point, panda dude" thing or a "the movie should've done a better job at making that clearer" thing? I didn't watch the movie and going off of Alpha's criticisms, it seemed like the writers for this movie didn't really know how to do their job, so I'm curious if it's Alpha's "fault" or the movie's.
I've never heard anyone talk about the second spongebob film. I thought it was really good. Nothing can live up to the first one but the second one was good in its own way.
Yeah. It had everyone working together, even the villain (which is kinda cringe cuz plankton in reality, would steal the formula if the had it in the end) And it's also kinda goofy at times. It has the amount of spongebob charm that everyone needs in a movie. However, if Stephan Hillenburg rose from the dead and saw this, I think that they would give everyone more than a talk.
This legitimately felt like a made for TV movie. Like it didn’t feel grand, it just felt uneventful. Like this could have been a 11 minute episode or 30 minute special. It’s just Gary goes missing, mess with cowboys, mess in casino, competition to get Gary back, the end. Even other tv specials have a more grand plot then this. Also I find it weird they used child actors in the movie but used the regular actors in Kamp Koral
Oh my goodness, me too. I had to double take - which, again, if they needed a narrator, Fabien Cousteau or hell, Jean Michel is 83 and kickin', he could have been perfect - but no, it's - Tim Hill?!
What's weird is that in the Kamp Koral scenes in this movie the characters are voiced by actual children but in the actual Kamp Koral show the characters are voiced by their usual voice actors trying to sound like kids.
That's also why I hate this movie. They clearly hired the kids to lure in "Awwww, dat's adowable" people and then after the movie just decided to wear out the usual voice actors more.
@@TuesdaysArt I haven't seen Kamp Koral but I've heard that they did explain the plot hole with Sandy. Apparently modern day Sandy went back in time and made her pasf self go to the camp.
@@JaredGriffiths2000 that itself creats a plot hole So sandy can go back in time yet every time they are in trouble she doesn't? but when she needs to go to a camp she does -_-
worst thing is, spongebob didn't meet gary in kamp coral or even when they were kids. Spongebob adopted gary, you remember that one episode where he goes thru his photos and sees a pic of baby gary with a lot of candy around him?
Lol the only one who had fun with this was Matt Berry(Poseidon). He always puts effort into his characters even half effort. Props to him, they better pay him good. It’s so funny because Keanu looked like he didn’t want to be there.
The fact that they retconned how spongebob and sandy met among other things in a show mainly focused on silliness shouldn’t upset/frustrate me as much as it does, yet it somehow manages that(and I’m glad to not be alone). Anyways, this movie is a prime example of the current state of spongebob in recent years.
I would have been fine if Spongebob met only Gary and Patrick in summer camp as kids, but then he just so happened to meet everyone else there too. There's serendipity and then there's this.
Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. It's not about following the law - perfectly, as it's impossible - it's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and ask Him to help us in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way. NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER If you have any questions let me know xx
Who else remembers Spongebob and gang actually went to the Lost City of Atlantis? An actual lost city that fish couldn’t get to without an ancient relic. Also run by Lord Royal Highness voiced by David Bowie!! I miss the good ol days
The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004): Amazing. Sponge Out of Water (2015): Good, but not great. Sponge On the Run (2020): Predictable, mediocre, and mostly a commerical for the infamous Kamp Koral spin-off.
Honestly, while this movie was painfully average, I feel like one thing that could’ve made it slightly better is having Spongebob completely centered on saving Gary, and I mean completely centered to the point where he isn’t the fun loving sponge anymore. Whilst Patrick is the one that both makes the jokes, and tries to cheer up Spongebob along the way. Also, I feel like Plankton changing sides and being good and feeling guilty could work if they gave Plankton more screen time during that moment. Maybe have him experience flashbacks of his other failed light hearted shenanigans, time spent with Mr. Krabs before they were enemies, and just basically anything that would give him motivation to feel differently about how he won. They could also have him join the gang very later on while he opened up his restaurant and dully fed people Krabby Patties. Whilst having to throw away all his evil inventions he made to steal the formula as he doesn’t need them anymore and having him feel even worse for it.
Every spongebob movie brings forward a new era of the series- Post 1st movie- decent at first, got worse overtime Post 2nd movie- things got better, Hillenburg came back and the show took a wackier but more creative direction Post 3rd movie- from the looks of it... the era of spin-offs....
15:40 I could hear a hurricane force "whoosh" as the joke about Atlantic City flew past your head and took out several small towns in Kentucky. And, yeah, Atlantic City _is_ like Vegas. Like, imagine how skeevy Vegas is, and then imagine what it would take for another city to be called "the skeevy version of Vegas" and you have Atlantic City.
I haven't seen the whole video yet, but the thing I hate the most too is the whole Camp Coral thing. Like none of the camp coral scenes even make sense! For example when SpongeBob met Sandy. Any long time fan would know that SpongeBob and Sandy met literally the first few episodes (can't remember which one though) when she was fighting a clam, he tried to save her but ended up being saved, and she invited him to the tree done for the first time claiming she's "never seen a sea critter before." As someone growing up with SpongeBob since 2000 and have followed along with Stephen Hillenburg up til his death, I HATE Camp Coral! SpongeBob didn't meet Sandy "aT cAmP" and this whole thing is just spitting in the face of Hillenburg and it absolutely breaks my heart and boils my blood
@@bigchungus7709 if that how you view it then sure it's just a show. Just remember that someone poured all their passion into it and because he was slowly dying (he had ALS) he specifically asked for no spin offs as well as a couple other things just out of respect. As soon as he died suddenly we started seeing that Patrick spin off, camp coral advertisements, and a third movie it you can even call it that lol
Plankton could have, and in my opinion, SHOULD HAVE combined the two ideas of dissatisfaction from the win and Spongebob being the problem, thus his inclusion to the rescue mission could have been even more sinister.
Does anyone else think that the conflict is such a downgrade compared to the previous films (though mostly the first one since I haven't seen the second one yet). Ignoring the fact that we already had an episode about Gary being gone and the emotional connection that they both have, it feels so nothing after a movie where Spongebob had to prove his maturity so he could run the Krusty Krab 2 while also saving the town from Plankton and save Mr. Krabs from being falsly executed by King Neptune as part of Plankton's evil plan.
Considering the second movie was about an apocalypse breaking out in Bikini Bottom because an evil pirate stole the secret formula and Spongebob and Plankton had to team up because everyone turned their backs on them to get the formula back ... yeah this third movie was a bit of a downgrade in terms of conflict and tension.
I’m honestly so sick of the “plankton stealing the formula” cliche. It worked perfectly in the first 3 seasons and the first movie because their ideas were original and flowed well. However not only are they running out of ideas for that plot and overusing it, but anything new is just so cringe and idiotic. The truth is spongebob won’t ever truly be the same without Hillenburg’s involvement
Frankly I get the feeling that the first draft of this was "Plankton=formula" but then they realized it was a movie they did before so they had to add useless shit around it to pad the runtime.
um acktually i think its brilliant. you're just too pepega to fully grasp the intellectualism of said joke. /s on a more serious note, i agree. the joke is getting really old at this point.
I dont blame it being bad, the voice actor for mr krabs said paramaount was breathing behind their back so creativity was very limited i mean they wre going to have neptune be played by a real human.
0:00 "regardless of if your a spongebob fan to this day or you dropped off at some point" Casually doesnt mention the 3rd group of "somehow this was in your recommended even though you have never watched a full episode of spongebob" or am i the only one in that group

You know maybe the movie would have made more money at the box office if A. The plot was good B. They didn't dangle the movie in front of America's face for months for no reason causing them to pirate the movie because everywhere else had the movie on Netflix
@@troin3925 okay so, Nickelodeon had Sponge on the Run come out in everywhere but the US on Netflix as part of a deal they struck a while back, now in the US, the movie did eventually come out, as part of this whole Paramount+ streaming service to coincide with the release of Kamp Koral.
@@KhaosAdmiral I'm not american, so now I wonder why this movie wasn't released on Netflix in the United States, was it just because of the Paramount streaming service?

Plot twist camp coral is the main cast's children which is why they meet at camp and not in the show and the reason why they have the same names is because no one had no idea what to name their kid so they named them after themselves.
They’re really killing the fan base or you know diluting it down to the *seven year old brats screaming with that yellow cultist masquerading as a sponge*
I just thought of something. In season 1, didn't Spongebob and Patrick meet Sandy for the first time? It's one of the early episodes. So doesn't the whole Camp Coral thing completely retcon that?
This movie reminds me of that Ferngully sequel where the baby animals get kidnapped and the fairy boys are like "We'll rescue them!"but then get distracted for half an hour of the run time at the funfair xD !
I can kiiiiinda see the reason calling it the "lost" city, in the sense that you can become lost in the city, because of the Vegas atmosphere. But they named it all wrong if that's what they were going for; call it Atlantis, the City of the Lost?
I just wanna say something that makes yiu feel the same way at this. So, At the part where Karen finds… what was his name again? I don’t remeber that robots name anymore. When Karen found him in the dumpster, bringing the robot into the chum bucket. The robot says to Karen: “I LoVe u mOm” and we all know that in the episode: “Karen’s baby”, Karen has a son named chip. And this made me think: Karen never loved his son confirmed.
The biggest problem I find with this movie is it’s inconsistency with itself and other Spongebob media. Spongebob at its core is about a serious situation with incredibly goofy, stupid, and lucky characters to traverse the situation. This is fundamentally how the show and most of its counterparts works. The biggest thing I dislike in relation to this is the lost city. Is it dangerous or not? Some say “it being a tourist trap instead of a hyper deadly torturous, treacherous place is a funny, cheeky spin on the concept”. Here’s why I disagree. In the first movie, SB and P are warned of the trench that is supposed to have dangerous sea creatures that kill on sight. When the two get down there, it IS legitimately dangerous; the movie didn’t lie about the dangers of the trench like this movie lied about Atlantis. SB and P in the first movie mostly happened to luck their way out of the trench through a dumb, cheap gimmick...which was the PERFECT way to represent the characters and the situation. They are constantly in danger, but they just so happen to BARELY avoid death ON ACCIDENT. I absolutely love this kind of writing for SB, but they discarded that here. Do you see the inherent difference in writing? And this is apparent throughout the movie and I hate it.
They just need to let Spongebob go. Give it a miracle finale so it can rest with the legendary cartoons before it. Heck they can make it as wacky as possible, even make it something like the Flapjack ending, just something that’s not so patronizing to the long-time fans
Yes! They should've just stopped after Hillenberg passed, I'm afraid what might happen is this is what younger generations will think of when they think Spongebob.
God damnit I forgot about camp coral. That shit breaks the whole lore of SpongeBob. Sandy wasn't with SpongeBob since he was a kid, she moved to bikini bottom in one of the first episodes. Mr. Krabs was probably in the army around that time. I'm pretty sure Squidward was just living where he was when SpongeBob moved in and met him. I cant think of other characters that are there that shouldn't be. Actually I think plankton was in the camp coral scene too and he is around the same age as Mr. Krabs because they were friends when they were young.
Plankton feels like the best well developed character in this movie: I think his motive in this movie is after he hears that Mr. Krabs gives up, really just wants to get it from him for real. Like, sure Spongebob stops him, but I think he knows it. He wants a challenge, to get the formula without it being handed over to him. That’s what Mr. Krabs expects from him, to just take, indicating why he gave to him in the first place. Plankton eventually does tag along, because he wants Spongebob back to show he has power once he gets the formula for real, again rather than handed to him. This also explains why Mr. Krabs gives up, considering one of the biggest things he relys on is Spongebob, but also keeping the formula away from Plankton, but since SpongeBobs gone, presumably for longer time than usual, Mr. Krabs gives up. He might have already checked in his house, obviously not seeing the paper that states about Gary going missing, then again that’s pushing it. That’s exactly what happened in the first movie, sure Mr. Krabs not only couldn’t do anything due to being frozen, but also to show that he has power and force to get the formula. That’s my take on it tho
I think the Planket victory thing was going for him having had this rivalry built up so heavily in his mind, fantasizing about it and all that the actual victory didn't live up to the fantasy so it left him feeling empty now that that feeling was gone. Like you said, that rivalry built up over decades, it was a major part of his life and now its gone. Like musician whose been playing their instrument most of their life suddenly no longer having the ability to play for some reasin...now their life feels empty...incomplete....devoid of something they were so heavily passionate about.

So they pull a Mauna loa then?
Maybe have it be considered a "lost" city, as anyone who enters never leaves to tell people about it. Be it getting swept up in all the attraction, or executed/forced into slavery for breaking one of the plethora of rules.
or las and lost sound simmilar so have someone from the city say "yeah that mixup happens alot. this is the LAS city of Atlantis." cementing it being some vegas substitute even more
What if it is "lost" because nobody who ever visited it came back because they became too addicted to gambling and fun, like in the montage?
If there's one thing that can't be denied, it's how beautiful this movie looks. It looks like an intermediary between CGI and StopMotion with vibrant colors and fluid movements

THAT would both stop old fans from being mad while keeping new ones in. But noooooo. Even when Kamp Koral comes out, it makes me happy to know that Stephen Hillenburg KNEW SpongeBob was gonna get more seasons, so he set up the first SpongeBob movie as like the true ending. No matter how many seasons are there after.
"But why does plankton keep stealing the formula after the first movie?"
Stephen, made it clear in an interview that if plankton is *still* stealing the formula even in season 20 (or "later seasons" during that time), those are just all his past attempts before he discovered Plan Z in the first film.
Well Steven hillenburg explain this we see Mindy in SpongeBob episodes after the movie so the movie took place before the show
@AlphaMel-2000 No. Like i've mentioned in my previous comment, it's a misconception. Stephen intended the first movie to be the end of the show, not the canonical end.
So this means that Movie 2 and Movie 3 takes place before The First Movie...

Meh I thought it was funny. On the nose? Yeah but the head full of sand and rocks line was pretty good
"One time is funny, but two times is fucking annoying, no?"
-Vaas
y'know what kind of burns me personally is that the writers actively acknowledge old fans through references and call backs, all while blatantly retconning what was already once established in the show. for example, if you know Reg (who is in the background here for example 40:35 and stands out far more than generic background fish), then you know that spongebob and patrick have been friends since they were babies, and that spongebob met sandy later in life, and blah blah blah.
if they want to establish a new canon thats fine, and its not like the series has a strong continuity anyway, but they can't do that while simultaneously making hehe funny jokes for older fans. because then it just feels like a slap in the face.
y e s
(Though he does later attempt to steal it again, but I guess old habits die hard, huh)
In any case, it does seem like Nickelodeon as of late has been making Plankton less of an evil character and more of a morally grey character.
@mohamed zayan like megamind
I think the “lost” city kinda means how lost people can get there, as in a distraction to get them lost
If that's the case, then they didn't do a good job setting that up.
I thought it was that the city used to be lost, but like in pop culture everyone heard about it and tried to find it, so it wound up being a tourist trap that still calls itself lost because that's what drew people to visit in the first place, it's sort of their brand.
I was thinking that too, or that it was like kind of a pun/word play of the cities of los angels/Los Vegas
Lost Atlantis (City of The Lost)? I think that moniker would be easier to understand.
@🔱𝓞𝓬𝓮𝓪𝓷 𝓜𝓪𝓷🔱 is that because you can dethorn and cook them?
Calling it "The Las City of Atlantis" woulda been an epic pun that let them have their cake and eat it too.
Squidward saying "who the kelp is that?" hits so differently for some reason. Like, all the fake swears aren't set up in that context to where it's so clear what the character is saying. But for this one instance, it's very clear what Squidward said.
That's why I like them, but I still kinda liked that one due to how randomly it came out
Why they couldn't use "Barnacles" or "Clams" or "Tarter Sauce" as swear words here is beyond me.
The dolphin swears are more natural.
I gotta enjoy them dolphin censors those "We crack up the dolphin nosies!"
Or he could of said what in king Neptune is that

What I like about how bad the plot of this movie is that you could've replaced Gary with any of the main characters ( or even an inanimate object ) and nothing would've changed. Also out of all the scenes in this movie, I think the saloon scene definitely could've been removed ( or at least heavily changed ) because it barely really served any actual purpose to the story other than adding Keanne Reeves to the story.

@@mr.badass9442 He’s not, he’s trying to get a lot of money to keep up with his life style.
Hi Rex (your pfp)
My answer was a bit different he could just try to make krabby patty’s but they come out awful and he realizes he needs spongebob to make them which is why he goes on the trip
As someone for whom Plankton has been their favorite character for a while now, I actually like that he was so petty that he couldn't accept victory if it didn't get a satisfying enough reaction out of Krabs. Also keep in mind that Krabs himself is fundamentally altered to be more like his S1 counterpart and actually care for SpongeBob, which I think EVERYONE prefers to how he's been characterized ever since.
Or just do what the second movie did.
Honestly, what really bothers me the most is how the voice acting is just slightly off that how it is in the series. Also the way sandy is drawn so detailed with each piece of fur is drawn, it’s just uncomfortable and honestly a little terrifying
What’s wrong with the voice acting
Another reason as to why David Hasselhoff was a perfect cameo in the first movie is because him being a lifeguard in that movie is a reference to an older show called Baywatch, a show that has David Hasselhoff playing as a lifeguard.
He also kept the plot moving forward
Speaking of inconsistency and ret-cons, didn’t Spongebob and the gang already go to the lost city of Atlantis? Am I remembering that wrong, or was there in fact a whole special where they go to Atlantis and everyone sings a song and David Bowie does a voice but he doesn’t get a song? That happened right?
It happened.
It was insulting.

What's weird is that in the Kamp Koral scenes in this movie the characters are voiced by actual children but in the actual Kamp Koral show the characters are voiced by their usual voice actors trying to sound like kids.
That’s also why this movie is unwatchable garbage
That's also why I hate this movie.
They clearly hired the kids to lure in "Awwww, dat's adowable" people and then after the movie just decided to wear out the usual voice actors more.
The movie retcons the show and the the spin off retcons the movie...

Hi iggy
I think there’s to much Crying. The entire movie is just cry cry cry

Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans
EVER

Every spongebob movie brings forward a new era of the series-
Post 1st movie- decent at first, got worse overtime
Post 2nd movie- things got better, Hillenburg came back and the show took a wackier but more creative direction
Post 3rd movie- from the looks of it... the era of spin-offs....

They shouldn't have even bothered with a character arc. Saving Gary was enough.

@@Bluecupcake_funko7 Huh?

I’m honestly so sick of the “plankton stealing the formula” cliche. It worked perfectly in the first 3 seasons and the first movie because their ideas were original and flowed well. However not only are they running out of ideas for that plot and overusing it, but anything new is just so cringe and idiotic. The truth is spongebob won’t ever truly be the same without Hillenburg’s involvement
I agree.
Frankly I get the feeling that the first draft of this was "Plankton=formula" but then they realized it was a movie they did before so they had to add useless shit around it to pad the runtime.

They had that. In 2004. Hell, Birthday Blowout would have ended nicely.
The first movie was the canonical ending to sponge Bob but nick wanted it to keep going
Yes! They should've just stopped after Hillenberg passed, I'm afraid what might happen is this is what younger generations will think of when they think Spongebob.
Sandy's eyes scare me. Her pupils are small... She looks more crazy than normal.

Plankton feels like the best well developed character in this movie:
I think his motive in this movie is after he hears that Mr.
