Dear Mallory, thank you carrying on your mother's legacy and keeping Lamb Chop alive. She was a terrific person with a great sense of humor and a beautiful voice. This song really got me, especially knowing it was Shari's final performance and she intentionally turned it into a farewell for everyone that loved her and her work. I was only born 4 years after Shari's passing but first got introduced to Lamb Chop's Play Along because of the Internet and I can tell why it's so iconic. Thank you, Shari Lewis, for everything. Hello, goodbye. ❤
25 years ago today, Shari Lewis died after battling uterine cancer and viral pneumonia at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at age only 65. This song darn breaks our hearts knowing that she would not live to see the airing of this final episode of Charlie Horse's Music Pizza. It aired posthumously on what would have been her 66th birthday on PBS. The show was cancelled out of respect for Shari. Reruns, however, continued to air on PBS Kids until September 3rd, 2000. It was all over before anyone knew it. Our time here is limited, so be sure to tell your special someone how much you love them before it's time. Your mom, dad, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, cousin, grandparents, and friend. Mallory, your mom was a very special and wonderful person. She lit up every room and changed children's lives for the better. The world was a better place because of her. I'm so glad that you're still performing Lamb Chop now. You're continuing to make Shari proud by playing the puppet, because that's how Shari would've wanted it. But most of all, she would want Lamb Chop to live beyond her. You've been doing a remarkable job carrying on her legacy. RIP Shari. I miss you, but I know I'll see you again someday. Love you. Stay strong, Mallory. Glad you're still here with us. You too, Lamb Chop.
Mallory, Your mom, Shari, was amazing. I grew up watching "Lamb Chop's Play Along" as a kid and enjoyed it. As for this song, it was a perfect way for her to go out in my opinion. There couldn't have been a better goodbye song than this. Shari is still missed...
😂❤Thank you Mallory!❤😂 I was fortunate to introduce my son to Lamb Chop via "Lamb Chop's Playalong" in the 90's. I was heartbroken when your mom passed away because I watched her when I was growing up....I'm 60 now and my son is almost 30. I love that you are keeping her memory alive and you have inherited her talent and beauty (both inside & outside)! This was a beautiful tribute!
I was born in 1991 and watched Shari Lewis and Lambchop along with hushpuppy and charlie horse when I was little. I am going to introduce my daughter to lambchop soon. Your mother would he so proud of you carrying on her legacy.
Today is June 18th, 2023. Today is the twenty-five year anniversary of when this episode was filmed. Hours before filming this episode, Shari got the news that she was diagnosed with uterus cancer & viral pneumonia. The song that was sung at the end was originally going to be sung to Junior (Wezley Morris), but she decided to sing it to her friends, family, & fans to say goodbye. After filming for this episode concluded, Shari returned to California for treatment. She passed away on August 2nd, 1998. This episode first aired on January 17th, 1999. January 17th, 1999 would have been her sixty-sixth birthday. After Shari's passing, PBS Kids canceled Charlie Horse's Music Pizza. However, reruns continued to air on PBS Kids until September 3rd, 2000. Rest In Peace, Shari, I love you & miss you greatly!
Shari was a pioneer in ventriloquism and children's entertainment. I'm glad Mallory Lewis keeps Lamb Chop alive, and I hope someday she and Universal Studios can bring her back to television.
I'm so thankful to have had a childhood with Shari Lewis in it, and it was sad to see her go. What a moving tribute with lots of fond memories for us all. She had a real gift, as you do. Thank you for keeping Lamb Chop and the gang around for future generations. Your mother would be so thrilled.
It's 2024... I'm now 69... grew up watching your Mom on TV in NYC... and this made me cry.😭Thank you for keeping her spirit as well as Lamp Chop alive!
I wasn’t really exposed to Shari Lewis during my childhood, but I’ve recently watched online videos of Lamb Chop’s Play-Along and I like it. One thing I can admire about Shari is her vocal range. She was definitely on par with great voice over artists like June Foray and Mary Kay Bergman. God rest their souls.
Shari Lewis was like a mom to me on TV as a little boy.. i had already lost my real mom in September 1997. I was around 7 or 8 years old in 1998 when shari passed. My grandmother even recorded episodes of lamb chops play long and charlie horse music pizza. Shari was such a wonderful lady. I hope this series and lamb chops play along come out on DVD or is available to stream someday because I want my kids to grow up with Shari just like I did❤ we wish you were still with us Shari. May you rest peacefully.
Thank you so much Shari for making my childhood a brighter place with Lamb Chop, and may you rest in eternal peace. And thank you Mallory for carrying on your mother's legacy with one of the greatest characters ever.
Mallory, I used to love watching your mother Shari....someone needs to write her biography...Lamb Chop and Hush Puppy and Charlie Horse are in the best hands...your mother would be so proud of you...I remember learning of Shari's death and being shocked and that when Entertainment Tonight was during the tribute to the people who passed away in 1998 and Shari came up I began to miss her all over again.
This segment was taped on Thursday June 18, 1998, and the episode aired in January of 1999. A couple of days after Shari passed away, KCET did the responsible thing and cancelled the series. Laurel Lambert, a spokeswoman for KCET said, "There is no way to continue the show because Shari was everything". When Shari learned of it, she told everyone, "I'm coming back to the studio and I don't want to see any red eyes".
@@southparkboyproductions6040and this episode broadcast on January 17, 1999, on what would have been her 66th birthday. There was no better way to pay tribute to her than that.
@@thefonzkiss I meant to say when Shari learned of her cancer diagnosis right before taping this episode. After this episode was taped, she went into the hospital
I love your mother's show. She was very good at making puppet voices. When I was little, I thought Lamb chop was talking on her own. She will still be alive in our memories.
I actually just lost a family friend who was like a second mom to me and my big bro, so this song resonates with me on a certain level. Plus, your mom was an amazing woman, Mallory. Seeing her interact with many different celebrities in her life was cool to watch, and she had some pretty good ideas for kids to try. I just feel sorry she and her "children" couldn't make an appearance in other shows. Sure, she and Lamb Chop appeared on Sesame Street, but I think it might've been fun to see them, Hush Puppy, and maybe Charlie Horse interact with Fred Rogers and his puppet characters on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Oh well. :(
She touched so many lives and hearts. She was an entertainer but she was so very different than other entertainers. She interacted with the kids in a way, she was more of a friend than anything else to me when I was growing up. She made me laugh and taught me vital lessons that are still relevant to this day, all these years later. I admired her greatly then and I respect her deeply now. My life wouldn’t be the same without her beautiful work over the years. She was like no other in her time and there will never be another that comes anywhere close to what she did and what she meant to a generation of kids. Before today I had never heard this before, and I’m moved, touched and heartbroken at the same time to hear it. She made one of the last things she ever did, in the face of some tough news (if what I read about the behind the scenes of this is true). She said goodbye in a way only Shari Lewis ever could. I so deeply respect her, and I can’t wait to one day join her in heaven and thank her to her face for all she’s done and meant to me over the years, and will continue to mean to me throughout my life. The tools she gave me as a child will stay with me through life. I’m so grateful to have had the chance to “spend time” with her. Thank you for posting!
Mallory Lewis you should bring lamb chop back too tv or do a lamb chop movie if you are allowed too (if you have the rights too the characters from Shari.)
Beautiful! I grew up watching Shari. I was MC at one of her last public appearances but, unfortunately, I didn't get to meet her since her introduction was prerecorded. I would have enjoyed an opportunity to say hello.
I just recently stumbled across this video for the first time and I would just like to say that your mom was something special that was truly ahead of her time. I mean, she was hugely successful in what was considered when she first started out a male dominated industry which was no small feat and found a way to keep it going for over 40 yrs until she passed. RIP Shari Lewis, the first lady of ventriloquism and puppetry 1933-1998
This song touched my heart Mallory and I know both our moms is up there with God in heaven because they are our guardian angels in our hearts forever!!!!
A talent that is missed. I’m not familiar with the later series, but we got ‘The Shari Show’ in New Zealand back in the 70’s... It’s been years since I’ve thought of things like ‘Bearly News’ and ‘Mr Squishy’. Shari certainly was a master of her craft, this video is a beautiful way to remind us of the presence and impact Shari had over those incredible years.
Shari’s parents must have been what we now call ‘Tiger Parents’.., encouraging her, out of pride and love, to engage in as many activities as she could handle. And she turned out ‘triffick’! Love all these old clips of her and her menagerie of puppets, her appearance on ‘The Dean Martin Show’ performing with Lambchop is standout classic. She said Goodbye to this world 20 years ago for Heaven’s eternal embrace, but we can still come back to RUclips today to say Hello to her.

"Hello Goodbye"
In this ever changing world, people come and people go
And some will stay and through the years, your list of friends will grow and grow
While others come into your life and all too quickly
As you move through day to day, there are often times you'll have to say
"Hello Goodbye, Hello Goodbye
Hello Goodbye Hello Goodbye"
"Thank you for my little time with you"
"Hello Goodbye Hello Goodbye
Hello Goodbye Hello Goodbye"
"I'm so sorry that you're just passing through."
And it helps me when I tell myself as you go on your way
"I might meet someone a lot like you, later on today"
From sad goodbyes, with lots of tears
Very often we will go
To happy times and better days that start up with the next "Hello!!"
And the fun of life is that we don't know exactly what may lie ahead
The joyous moment that could start minutes after we have said
"Hello Goodbye, Hello Goodbye
Hello Goodbye Hello Goodbye"
"Thank you for my little time with you"
"Hello Goodbye Hello Goodbye
Hello Goodbye Hello Goodbye"
"I'm so sorry that you're just passing through."
And it helps me when I tell myself as you go on your way
"I might meet someone a lot like you, later on today"
And because these words are part of life
And words you might use constantly
Wouldn't it be wise to take the time to practice these words along with me?
