  • Shari Lewis and Lamb Chop touched millions of lives from 1957 to 1998 while airing across NBC, CBS, and PBS networks. The show came to an end when founder and creator Shari Lewis died in 1998 from uterine cancer. "When mom died, I got a lot of letters from people saying, I'm so sorry mom passed. Is Lamb Chop dead too?" said Mallory Lewis, Shari's daughter. LX News Storyteller Cody Broadway searches for the iconic puppet and uncovers a story about the undying power of childhood magic.

Sounds horrible and Mallory has every right to be disgusted and upset, but I wonder if it was more so a grave miscalculation her father. Men have weird ways of dealing with emotions and stress. We try to hide it (terribly) (the football game). Likely didn't want to risk a miscarriage of his only grandchild, and didn't want to watch his wife die. Still inexcusable he should have talked to his daughter first.

@@mysecondemailatl that’s an incredibly generous interpretation of two fundamentally horrific decisions. I bought three Lamb Chops at CVS stores and "shared" one yesterday. Gave her to a homeless woman who said, "This made my day!" And we played Lamb Chop back and forth together. No way should your mother die! My mom passed and I still suffer from it. I comfort myself with Lamb Chop. She's alive with me! She is! It's a miracle! I miss your Mom already ❤

If this is as close to a Lamb Chop documentary that we get, then I guess so be it.
However I would like to see one day a full-length feature documentary that covers Shari Lewis’ entire life story, with new and perhaps any existing interviews they can gather and any never before seen footage of Shari that the archives may still have (be it B-roll or whatever). No one knows how much of Shari’s work is lost as of yet (well, other than the color masters for NBC’s The Shari Lewis Show) so hopefully the most notable ones (like Lamb Chop’s Play Along after Season 2?) haven’t disappeared. I know projects such as this cost a lot and take time to put together which is understandable, but like I said it’s something I would like to see one day.
Anyway, it was great to see Mallory and Lamb Chop again. Much love to them and whatever they do. 😊

I'm 34 now...this brings back so many flooding memories of being in the den with my cousins laying on a corduroy couch playing hungry hungry hippos ...it reminds me of innocent stress free times..I truly believe that if this was apart of your childhood then you were the last of the children that experienced the most magical of times

That was cold how her husband did her. Didn’t want to be with her while she was dying because it would’ve taken too long. Jeez.

My daughter bought my son a Lamb Chop at a garage sale for 25 cents in 1993. He never let it go. ❤ He still has it. Today when I read a Lamb Chop book to my grandson, we have to get Lamb Chop out to sit on the couch with us. 🌸

I haven't seen Lamp Chop in over 20 years.
I hope she'll come back on TV along with Hush Puppy and Charlie Horse, even though Shari Lewis is gone but not forgotten.
    I miss them a lot.

I like how Mallory is the opposite of Candice Bergen where Candice despised being referred to as “Charlie McCarthy’s Little Sister” and hated how Charlie got his own bedroom that was bigger than hers, Mallory embraces the legacy of Lambchop with love. Granted Candice is entitled to feel bitter about her father’s most famous puppet and who could blame her for it?

I loved this show as a kid. I did not know that Shari dies of cancer. You are right. This was at a more perfect time of my life that I never want to forget. I still sing "the song that never ends" to my children. I am sorry for your loss. I am also hoping your father became a better man.
