  • A tutorial... sort of.... I didn't plan this, but wanted to film an unplanned project so you can see how I work with some pitfalls and tangling wires, and uncooperative weaves, and even some wires breaking unexpectedly. The sound might jump a bit. I'm working with all new electronics... new laptop, new lights (which gave out because I didn't have them plugged in and thought they had a longer battery life... sigh), and I think I'll need to invest in a quality microphone for future videos (anyone wanna go to Best Buy with me?!).
    So, this is definitely impromptu... the measurements are not exact, so I'll suggest using more lengths than I mention in the video, just to be on the safe side (though the 300cm of 28 gauge is more than sufficient).
    And have fun! If you have any questions, be sure to ask them in the comments below, and also let me know what kind of jewelry you'd like to see me make in the future. Earrings and mirroring will definitely be an upcoming video, as well as a hair pin, so I've got a lot of good stuff planned! Stay tuned!
    Materials & Tools
    1 piece 20cm 18 Gauge Round Wire (I mention 18cm, but add a couple just to be safe), 3 Pieces 25cm 22 Gauge Round Wire, 1 Piece 300cm 28 Gauge Round Wire, Needle Nose Pliers & Wire Cutters
    Also let me know if you like this kind of video while I fumble through unplanned projects, so you can see how I work around potential problems!
    Thanks everyone! See you next time!
    Nicole

    This video made me HUMAN...LOL. Seeing that you struggle, yet persevere made my day. I'm back at making some jewelry again watching you. I've purchased a couple of patterns a long time ago, and loved them. I think you have great style and your creativity is amazing. Keep going gal, you inspire us to be better... even when the wires have a mind of its own.

    I have many, many of your tutorials purchased on Eni's website before she closed it down. You are super talented and I so appreciate the realness of how you create on this video. You are one of the most talented wire designer's I have ever come across. You are a blessing to all who are lucky enough to find you. May God continue to bless you and your work. What a God given talent - I am in awe of how you create. Know that you are loved. Thank you for sharing. Videos are so much more fun as we get to see the real genius who is a realy sweet girl who struggles just like us novices, but comes up with GEMS!

    Nicole, It is great to see you have "you tube" videos. I had gotten some of your lessons from Jewelry Lessons, so sad to see the site go. I thought I would be unable to get anymore of your tutorials. I have found a few of the artist and able to get some tutorials. Your work is so great and you are a great teacher. I am on a very tight budget so finding your free lessons here is such a blessing for me ( I am sure others as well). Keep up your GIFT of the freebies and your beautiful work. Thank you!

    Hey Nicole, you touched very briefly on deciding on a weave based on how you want to use it, and making those wraps fit that "vision." Can you possibly (might be hard, I get it) give us some idea of wraps that work in small spaces, vs wraps/weaves that work better for swooping big curves? THANK YOU. I've loved all of your videos that I've watched so far, and by far, this has been a favorite.

    I normally read all of the comments to see if my question has already been asked but there were just too many this time. My question is how do you decide which wire gets the single wraps when doing a three, three weave?

      No book. I prefer individual lessons, verses a compilation in a book, so I just have PDF files available on my website at the moment, which hopefully allows folks to pick and chose the designs they like best.

    How in the name of all that's beautiful do you keep your left hand from cramping???? Any special hints?

    • @GoArtYourself
      @GoArtYourself  8 лет назад

      +RocketJ520 Unfortunately no real hints there, I've just built up a tolerance to it now, and I massage my hands with a nice lemon Burt's Bees balm every day, which helps. I know it probably looked like I was gripping super hard, but only when the wires are being extra fussy. Usually I have a pretty mellow grip once the piece has been started.

    Hi Nicole. You've got a gift for teaching, very easy to follow.
    I assume you're American? Centimeters? :-)
    Also the higher the gauge measure the smaller the diameter of the wire, is that correct?
    Do you happen to know the sizes in centimeter instead of gauge or is there a formula?
    I'm dutch, planning on having a go at wirewrapping and don't want to mess up.
    Thanks dor the inspiration!

    • @GoArtYourself
      @GoArtYourself  7 лет назад

      I am American. I prefer the metric measuring system to imperial... it just makes more sense. lol. And yes, you are correct that the higher the gauge, the thinner the diameter. I unfortunately don't know off hand the mm measurement of wire gauges.

    • @GoArtYourself
      @GoArtYourself  8 лет назад +1

      Though I know it's not to everyone's tastes, I find the look of copper (and if you ascribe to the beliefs... the metaphysical properties) far outweighs the inconvenience of a skin color change. As your body adapts to wearing copper, the effects of the metal (totally harmless effects) lessen over time. Now my skin doesn't turn green at all.
