  • The second part of the Aquarium Plants tutorial series is a very basic presentation of the aquatic plants in general. We're answering the most common beginner's questions about plants that can be used in nano tanks or in non-CO2 environments. We try to speak as little Latin as possible and trying to create an entry-level guide presenting as many freshwater aquarium plants as possible, without overwhelming you. Did we succeed?

    Really glad that they touched on how setup can impact plants in ways other than 'it won't grow'. In particular, as a beginner doing low tech I was extremely frustrated trying to get reds into the tank because they just wouldn't do it. Lots of internet wisdom led me to trying to dose more iron, putting red potters clay in the substrate, and any number of other things all to no effect. I'd also never heard it called ARM- always "AR Mini" here in my local.

    I’ve found that Staurogyne Repens works well for carpeting without CO2. Especially in a shallow tank. You can take trimmings and plant nearby and it fills in very nicely.

    • @GreenAquaShop
      @GreenAquaShop  4 года назад

      Yes stauro is a good low-tech plant, but you'll have to trim it often to keep it low. Some people just don't like that effort - including me, haha.

    i really enjoy these types of Q&A videos. One of the commenters mentioned that you should do a video on specific plant species, which i completely agree with. A 3-4 min video outlining the pro's and cons of each plant and tips on how to use them in a scape would go a long way towards helping us rookies progress in this hobby. Maybe break it out into a separate mini series? Anyway, keep up the good work and thank you for putting out quality content.

It really helps me (and I'm sure others) plan out their aquariums and maintain them afterwards. I love watching your videos because you teach a lot and it's not boring at all as you make fun of your fellow mates in the middle 😜.. can you teach us how to grow moss in detail as a single video ?

    • @GreenAquaShop
      @GreenAquaShop  4 года назад +1

      Moss is really easy to grow, I don't think that is a topic that should be covered separately. Most types are fine even without CO2.

    Need video above how to sink driftwood

    • @GreenAquaShop
      @GreenAquaShop  4 года назад +1

      Driftwood usually sinks. If not, you can tie it to a rock that you place it underneath (with cable ties) or you can just weigh it down with rocks initially. Check out our setup videos, all is explained there.

    I really like lilaeopsis brasiliensis and it's one of the best plant for low tech. I even had a tank that I want to rescape and had those ant in a tank with 2 months light off and this plant was in a extremely good shape green and great.

    I agree on the dwarf hair grass, I planted a lot of it in a non-co2 tank and it all died. I used liquid fertilizer but to no avail.

      Thanks for the feedback. Did you use liquid carbon though?

  • @magstheonlyone
    @magstheonlyone 4 года назад

    Always a great topic for discussion. I just stick with plants that are good for my water parameters, hard and acidic. I won't use co2 injection until I learn everything I can about low tech plants and everything relatable about it, lights, substrates etc. I will get into the beautiful world of co2 in the future thank to you guys, but no need to rush the learning process, I'm having a lot of fun with my tanks and watching green aqua every week.

      We do some livestreams nowadays on instagram, but the quality of these will not meet our standards, so we usually stick to this format - it seams to be working fine.
