VERY instructive and fun video. Can feel the ease of the reviewer. This is how demos and intros SHOUUD BE! Well done. I learned a lot and makes me want to watch this many times as I learn my new gear. MANY thanks!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video!
I just purchased one for £250 UK. A great gadget for train rides & days out in the park. The price is awesome & one of the easiest decisions I've made. It sounds top notch.
Where did you get it from at that price?
@@sanchopanzam8 I went to the link on the Cuckoo demo.
@@funkb0x I was looking at purchasing it directly from the Teenage Engineering website too for £250 but in the small print it says "please note: non-EU countries are subject to additional local tax and customs duties" so I was a little concerned I might have to pay more money. Hopefully you don't need too! I'd be interested to know how you get on. Cheers.
Yes, usually tax is paid directly to the delivery provider on deliver
Only in the UK apparently. in EU its €349 even through the affiliate link. Never really understood these kinds of things. I mean that's almost €70 difference.
The audio quality of these products is the real win for me
Definitely.
Get mine tomorrow and I am stoked!
Thanks. Took a while to find a video of someone talking specs but glad I found it.
Good video, really well explained. This looks like a great product. Super interested in seeing what TE does next in this form factor.
This thing screams 'fun on the fly' and I may have to get one!!
Pretty cool device. Will be fun for messing around as a Christmas present. Don't care for TE's overpriced gear but this one is reasonable at least, the design is spot on and not too limiting for an upgraded pocket.
Very well done Gabe!
Thank you!
already bought it .. felt in love with it
Enjoy!
Honestly I’m more excited to get my hands on this than i am the new kaoss and I’ve been waiting for a new kaoss pad for a long long time
I’m amazed by this thing. I’ve been stalking everything on it and wow. When this really gets out it’s over for all the other samplers lol.
you could be right. thinking of selling my es2 to replace it. although i dont really need it, i was sold mostly on the design!
It seems solid, but there are a lot of great samplers around close to this price point. Some with some great features that this won't have.
I don't think so. It will just be one more option out there. Nothing will touch the staples like the 404, MPC and Octatrack. And of course the Trackers like M8 and Polyend. Or even the Polyend Play or Play 2. It's just amazing so many options exist.
MPC ONE beats this easy. Still getting one though
😂😂😂 What, This Calculator!
When I first saw this yesterday, I thought it was going to be at least $700. I love TE but hate their prices. This is incredible and fairly priced.
Cool story bro!
It really is.
Great demo!!
Glad you enjoyed it.
Good review
I was gonna get a Novation Circuit Rhythm as a Xmas treat to myself, this has killed that idea!
This thing seems very cool and I ordered one as soon as I sought it, but don't count the Circuit out! It's got it's own things going on that's quite different from the ko2. It's also on some deep sales right now. Worth having both IMO if you can swing the cost.
Yeah i bought a circuit rhythm and liked it but soon after got rid of it. The reason was you could not record longer than two bars and if you did you had to chain to together, . I think the max was 8 bars. This Ep 133 has all the features i was looking for being a mobile producer plus it works well with iOS and the computer. Please don’t buy the circuit buy this instead. I just ordered mine.
The TE K.O. II has crushed my interest in the Akai MPC One.
@@BIG1TOWER
Works well with iOS? Do they have an app for it to make editing easier?
i was gonna get a 404 but now im second guessing myself 💀
Excellent demo
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Great video!
Thank you.
Thank you, awesome review sir. 👍
Thanks!
Hi, are the punch fx available for the live input, so I can process external audio with them?
Unlikely, they're mostly midi effects or at least require timing information.
how do people upload their beats? is it through and audio interface?
We're these samples recorded to another source then imported, or did you use the onboard mic to record them
Hi! Gabe here. These were recorded using the internal mic.
All we’ve seen is the microphone used in low-noise studio environments. It seems to do well in that condition.
Any confirmation on if you can export projects from the device? Can’t seem to find any information on the website
Projects cannot be exported. >Mark
I own the pocket one !
Is there a carryover from the POs where you can press one button (pattern), then press any of the pads to create a string of patterns? The commit thing seems more involved here.
yes
The main navigation has been redesigned and you can now mix and match patterns within a scene, commit the scene with the commit button and easily switch scenes to move from one section of your track to the next seamlessly from the KO II home screen.
Great demo!!!! Loop daddy
Thanks!
it looks wicked, but im wondering if it can resample the main outs ?
No internal resampling
Hello . How you think ? It’s good idea change electribe 2 s korg to this po Ko 2 ?
Great review by the way - second only to Cuckoo on this one 🙏
That means the world! thank you!
yo that beat was fire thanks for the video! im almost ready to buy it, just going everyones opionions
It’ll be sold out very quickly.
@@visisydandthevoidabsolutely. This thing is fire.
Thank you!
The storage is pretty small with only 9 projects. Any way to increase storage with external storage?
No, the K.O. II does not have a SD card slot and as of the making of this video the storage cannot be expanded via the USB port either.
is it capable of doing the visual, grid-based style of sequencing that the original PO's have? where you choose a sound and the 4x4 grid lights up to show which beats and subdivisions are filled with that sound?
When using the settings and effects on the teenage engineering EP-133 K.O. II , it graphically displays the waveform being affected on the screen. >Mark
I hope we can use the fader to pitch sample chop independantly if not, tell them to add this feature that will brain a little bite of SP1200 workflow even use it for the start/end editing sample trim ans with a bit reducer that will be great a 8 to 12 bit 46k to 10khz
you can do that but you need to use one of the knobs to control pitch
Indeed. For what the KO-133 offers, 12-bit is all that a was needed audio wise. It should have had at least six outs. At $300, they finally priced something correctly.
@@SS-hz4jo
Yeah the price is Really attractive !!!!
You can pitch the samples in sound mode by selecting a sample and using the black knob at the right of the unit. You can also pitch groups as a whole using the fader after pressing the fader button and selecting pitch (pad 8)
Can it pan? Since no 8 individual outputs could I put drum 🥁 to left and 🎹 to right of 3.5 output
Absolutely. Each group (keys, drums, bass and user samples and loops) can be panned individually using the fader and the pan function, which can be accessed by pressing the fader button and then pan (pad 3)
@@BandH ok awesome
Can you export the project as it only holds 9 projects ? And import back again at a later time? Haven’t seen anyone do more than a 4 bar loop, can you line out to a interface and record ya work into ableton???
Line out to an interface would do the trick. >Mark
Coolioooo
I was Sold instantly after seeing the price (and bought from B&H!)
Thanks and enjoy!
Cool 😎 demo
Old School 64mb of memory. Can you hold your own samples on the SD card with direct access?
It doesn’t allow more memory, but 64mb is enough because it compresses the samples
There is no storage expansion, like by an external slot.
Great video! One thing that was not clear to me is whether this thing can use its usb c port to output and receive audio. Can it do that?
Unfortunately not
No the USB port can only be used for power, data transfer and MIDI over USB.
Looks very cool. I’m a total beginner. Is it for me?
cam you charge rechargeable batteries with the usb-c?
no
nice little diddy! and sweet lookin' machine
Thank you!
Could someone please explain to me what the difference between this and the OP-Z?
The main difference beside the interface is that the the KO II is a sampler/sequencer meaning it cannot generate its own sounds. Instead samples are stored on the unit and can be recorded using the unit's internal microphone. The OP-Z on the other hand is a synthesizer that can generate wave forms but also stores samples. To simplify things the KO II is a great tool for beat making either on the fly or in the studio, and the OP-Z is better suited for sound design.
What is that magical rhythm/beat-pattern at 6:55 ? It sounds 3/4 but it isn't? Does it have a name?
Glad you enjoyed it. It's actually 4/4 at 80bpm with kick, hat and snare played in groups of 3 as 16th notes, leaving the last 16th note of the bar out. Hope this helps
@@BandH Thanks. This is the best demo for any sampler/groovebox I've seen in years. Well done!
Does this have speaker inbuilt ?
Yes, it has a mic and speaker
Can you solo/mute individual pads or groups on the fly? Not mentioned in any demos so far nor in the quick start guide
Yeah from what i've seen you can set the fader to control volume & mute groups.
Think i saw that in Cuckoos tutorial video
@@JuanPMCGOk thanks. Not ideal seeing as the pads and buttons are right there and much better suited
FX + group button solos this group according to the manual. Can be done to multiple groups at once, so to mute group A, you would push FX + B + C + D. Not ideal but faster than the fader.
@@DeaBroggn yeah it would make so much sense to just have a mute button and then click the pads you want to mute/unmute
Can you step sequence with an external midi keyboard?
Yes
You can also step sequence in chromatic mode. There’s also a midi sequencer for external gear.
Oh yeah! Or set it in keys mode and play from a keyboard controller. :) Do your little bass line.
“Jokes aside”…. Proceeds to make a dozen more boxing jokes 😂
Is it a calculator too?
I'm new to music making but I not sure where to start, there are so many type of device, tracker, sampler, comproser, sequencer and so on, I think M8 Tracker is good for me to start and bring anywhere but then I see people don't do all in just one device but connect a few, one say he will connect this to the M8 but why, how about those MIDI keyboard like the OP-1 Field and OP-Z, I love these design as well but not sure where to start, I want to make futuristic modern music, soundtrack from something like Tenet, Tron and Blade Runner plus game like Wipeout flying car games and also want to make game element effects, is there benefit to get any of these and not just use Garageband and Logic Pro with their virtual synthesizer and library of sounds already recorded over the internet?
I think if you want to follow in the footsteps of Wendy Carlos (who did the music for Tron) and Vangelis (Blade Runner), you would at least have to study music composition and piano and get some professional level skills. They went a little further than playing around with cheap groove boxes. I like M8 because it is indeed quite powerful and capable. However, some people won't take to working with a tracker. I guess I'd suggest working with Renoise or something first to make sure you like trackers before buying the hardware. Most hardware is more fun and interesting to me than using a DAW, the tactile element and just the way of working with the instrument is fun, so that motivates and inspires me personally. EP-133 has a little of that aspect, but seems too limited to me in what you can do to sounds and sequences, more limited than even SP-404 that I think is too limited (but with that at least you can resample and have lots of effects and memory), and I don't really like the sort of phone number pad interface they have. But some people like it. For having some fun with music, only you know what is most fun for you, and creatively, you are also the only one who can answer your questions; no one else knows what you will enjoy.
I’m totally digging it but…..64MB? Wondering how limiting that will be.
64mb of 16 bit 46 kHz sound is 11.5 minutes of mono or 5 minutes 45 seconds of stereo samples.
@@td0999That sounds great and easily workable to me. I believe most vocal samples I hear are like the
@@LangleyNA I had the same concern before I found a calculator online to figure it out. Now I’m also pretty excited!
Limits are good for music making. I bought this specifically to have some limits
@@billiedoesbeats that’s the narrative from TE with their products. But it’s 2023. Why not give us 16GB at the very minimum? That’s probably $3 cost to them to include. If there was an SD expansion port so we could add our own SD storage, this would be perfect.
what happens at 0:57 ?
looping of the small section, it has basic looper basically.
Can you only sample through the mic?
No you can also sample from the audio input with any audio source.
What is the Maximum sampling time on these things? The 404II is 16 minutes.
20 second max sample length
@@willmyers8600 Eh. Cool for what it is, could have really had something if they gave us a bit more storage.
The maximum sample length is 20 seconds. >Mark
@immortalnightbody I think it has some kind of compression algorithm that allows you to put more stuff on it than you'd expext at 64mb
Is there a Tap Tempo function?
Yes
I haven’t found TAP TEMPO in the 1.0 guide. @jaredforney2372 Have you verified that this exists on your own unit?
@@LangleyNAI remember Cuckoo taps tempo on his video
@@tommyvercetti1873 That’s right. I see it now around 25:45 in the video. @mezmerik5923, tap tempo is confirmed present upon the unit. :)
I ordered one yesterday from TE and have to wait up to 30 days for it to ship....smdh😢
That’s why I ordered from
Guitar center as well .. I’m inpatient
@@dabi2350 Yeah, I just canceled with TE! I want to get the insurance through GTC, too.
Greetings, how much memory does it have? Great Review
64mb is literally on the faceplate.
It’s 64MB or 999 samples for the samples specifically. I presume your actual project sequences and all the velocity and timing data can be as complex as you want, and you’ll never meet their storage limit.
64mb.
is there a step sequencer???
yes
This price! 😮
for real. i thought they forgot another 9 on the end of it lol
@@scotdotwtfhaha , same for me 😅
Isn’t it mad? In my eyes, I think it just single-handedly crushed every sub-$1,000 sampler/sequencer/groovebox. I am excited to hear Greg Miller’s thoughts. I feel this may suffice as an Akai MPC One replacement for aspiring hobbyists.
With streaming from a SD-card it would be a no brainier. I’d be happy to pay more for it. Frankly it’s ridiculous how companies keep skimping on memory like it’s 1999. Cheap smartphones offer bucketloads more memory than these hipster swedes.
Can it resample?
I don't think so, nothing about resampling in the manual.
@@DeaBroggn unfortunately you’re right
There is only the mandatory initial resampling it does when importing samples from your computer. There is nothing we can do ourselves… yet? Yet? It’s not like they support the OP-1 for ten years or anything.
@@LangleyNA Cool, fingers crossed we’ll be able to resample like on the Sp for example
Quantised recordings or supreme finger drum skills?
it has quantizing
Both
It quantizes in real time if you want to
It does all three, I believe. The machine quantize, the swing quantize, and the free huperson timing.
Nice I’m just learning about this thing
What about resampling?
No resampling
But 64 MB?
The gloves are uff?
It’s all ogre now. Goodbye, competition. Goodbye, dozen other products.
Sd card?
Unfortunately no
@thetropiki so only 64mb to work with? My drum kit are more than 64mb lol I might return it if its not for me

£249 - I got mine yesterday - DO NOT PAUSE AND THINK ….Even though I bought the Novation Circuit units I was lamenting the lack of ability to immediately record into the unit … I can’t be bothered with the Digitakt or Roland units… just tooo toooo much menu diving … even though they are outstanding units … I went over to see what Cuckoo had cooking and was 10 minutes into thr video when I decided to immediately order…. I will definitely still use my novation units - they are so beautiful and ultra portable but I have ALWAYS loved thr TE visuals on their units so at this price, I’ll find a way to work it into my Dawless setup
how 249 shows 299 uk for me
GBP£249 is direct from TE. You’ll get slogged a VAT plus handling fee fee. Better to order from a UK supplier.
I think of "menu diving" as selecting a menu from a menu from a menu to get to a setting you have to use a lot. Some of the old rack-mounted samplers had some of that. There isn't really any menu diving like that on a Digitakt. For settings you use a lot, you only have to push a button clearly labeled for each basic thing like LFOs, filters, source, trigger settings, etc. to push that displays nicely what each of the 8 knobs set with clear and instantly understandable graphical displays, with another click of the same dedicated button for a second similar screen. It's all very quick and easy to see and gives you many settings for filters and LFOs and everything you need. You only get deeper into menus for things you don't need to change much and that are good to have. I want more choices, not less.
I'll point out what's pretty obvious. You get a very nice display on Digitakt of sample waveforms you can edit, LFOs, filters, and everything you're working with. On the EP-133 you get none of that; the display is made of colored icons that turn on and off. You can't see the sampled waveform at all; if you split it you have to just listen to the sample while clicking a button and take what you get; there's no precision for that or any of the few settings you have. That's only considering the interface. Digitakt costs three times as much as an EP-133, but it has at least ten times the capability of what you can do with it musically with how you create the sounds and sequences. If you watch videos about them both and pay close attention to how they are used, musically it's like comparing a tricycle to a sports car.
For me, I'd use an EP-133 for a few days and quickly tire of the limitations, and then I would put it in a box with the pocket operators i don't use anymore. However, I suppose that for a lot of people, what an EP-133 can do is all they want. There's nothing wrong with that, and I hope they have lots of fun with it.
I'm in the exact boat! If Circuit Tracks had sample in and more FX, it would be king
Where tha brothas at??
shipping to the us in 30 days!!???? no bueno.
Hmm… it seems it cannot edit a sample by applying filters like LPF or HPF. There’s only the non-destructive real-time filtering.
You can trim and pitch samples, but more in depth work - at least for now - must be done on another hardware unit to modify your samples to taste.
This is fine. It’s no reason not to buy it, in my opinion. What an amazing, market-crushing gizmo.
i appreciate you extracting this info from the vid and presenting it as a comment!
Absolutely disappointed as my unit came with an unresponsive fader without installing the knob. I purchased at B&H. Now to wait a month for a replacement if I'm lucky. Fuming.
Hi there, we are very concerned to hear this. Please send an email to henryp@bhphoto.com with your order number so we can look into this further for you.

Their hardware looks fragile. The mpc one looks sturdy. Get full sized pads too and a screen where the font doesn’t look stop watch font
Only $3999 ? wow !
Lol I thought it was going to be at least $750, it’s only $300. Can’t believe it
Wow! Ya’ gotta’ remove thirty-seven hundred from this price tag! Two-ninety-nine! “Dirt cheap.”
TE’s customer support is garbage, and their pricing usually outrageous.
With that said, this looks really cool, and it’s affordably priced; however, the build looks very suspect.
That fader and those buttons don’t look like they are built for longevity.
I dont understand why anyone buys teenage engineering stuff. This is the first decently priced piece of kit, all there other decent gear is x3 overpriced
