Hello i have bmw 120 f20 When i accelerate my car shakes a little bit., when i let the gass off drives normal , im wondering that the gearbox is problem ( automatic ) what do you think ?
In addition to the drive shaft , you should also mark the bolts to the differential. For prevention in case of possible rotation of the tires and the differential during operation .
You should’ve marked the position of the central bearing more than the guibo, that’s actually the balancing point… For the guibo as far as the arrows point towards a flange you’re good!
Great video Grant. Well done. I know its been a year since you made this video but did you ever find the cause of the vibration? Im experiencing a vibration only from 70 to 85 mph. Ive bought new rims and tires and had them road force balanced by several different places. Still have that annoying vibration at 70 to 85 mph..
Should've done both guibos instead of just the rear. If the rear has failed surely the front guibo has also failed and mostly likely the center bearing balanced support between both front and reat derive shafts has also failed hence why many still have a thumping when driving off do to the center support failure. You can test if it has failed by just pushing the frint drive shaft up a few times and if you feel it move and hear it hit (thump) then its time to replace it. These F10's come with an aluminum front guibo (flex disc) and BMW highly recommends replacing it with an all rubber one do to high failure! Also you do not need to turn the car on to put it in Neutral position. While you are under the car just go next to the side of the transmission oil pan and you will see a screw. That needs to be screwd up as it will push a lever up and that will put the car in Neutral automatically. Once done unscrew it back to it's original position.
@johnclark402 my motor works fine. The previous owner got the rear window broken out at some point and they tore the shade and broke the tabs that held it.
Hey grant did this end up solving your vibration problem. I’ve been chasing a vibration between 65-85 mph (yes I’ve done everything that there is to check) hoping guibo is my issue. Need you to confirm if it helped your problem. Best regards
I just had to replace my driver’s side wheel bearing. I put the car in the air and you could hear the bearing making noise when you would spin the wheel by hand. Passenger side was smooth and quiet.
You want to fix that speed vibration? You have replaced whatever you thought it could be to no avail? You will be surprised that it's so simple of a fix it will blow your mind! The fix is you "TYRES".... Yes, your tyres is the issue... If you have low profile tires you MUST HAVE a minimum of 40 psi of air in them, anything lower will cause vibration in certain speeds! I have a 2011 F10 535i M Sport tuned and had 20" low profile rims/tyres and always had them at 40 psi pressure and NEVER had a vibration issue wile driving, not at 70 miles, not at 90 miles not even at 120 mph speeds! 😎
Great video! it's pronounced Gee-bo...lol...I've changed the guibo on a 5 series e39, it's not a "fun" job, but so satisfying after you've finished the swap.
Thanks for this video. I have a e87 and I am also getting a vibration have done new shocks, control arms and balanced the car several times still no change in with the vibration. Im so tired of it I've decided to drive it like that till I'm in the mood to sort it out.
You marked it in the wrong place, you have to make it in the flanges of differential side not on the Guibo, pronouncing as “joobo” for balancing purpose. Guibo (joobo) can go in 3 different position/ bolt holes!
Thanks bro!! Yeah, they sound great! Should have that video out soon, still need to pull the entire exhaust off and finish up the welding. It’s all just tacked right now.
My 2015 535xi has the guibo in the front, by the transfer case. Should the arrows for the bolts that connect the driveshaft point towards the differential? The specs show it as either way works but I’m not really sure. Great video by the way.
Hey man please help I got the 535i rear wheel drive but i got thudding near the center console fo you think it's more of the center bearing or the guibo on the rear diff?
@JohnsonMotorsports thnkss so much man and it's funny how every video you made my car is slowly breaking and going through the parts you made videos for 😂
Great video, Grant! Did replacing the Guibo get rid of your driveline vibration? I'm experiencing a driveline vibration as well that seems to be coming from the drive shaft as well, so I'm thinking about replacing this as well. Let me know.
No, I still have a vibration. I’m looking to swap out my thrust arms next. Hopefully that will solve the problem. I will also look at the differential bushings.
I replaced my Guibo because it was starting to tear in a few places. It did NOT stop my vibrations. My mechanic said it’s a motor mount that isn’t bad but it does have a small amount of movement which is common at this mileage. 75,000 miles on 2015 535d.
Hello Grant, wondering if you were able to find the cause? I’m having the same issue at 60mph +…hard accelerating really wakes it up. Wheels, tires and brakes new. Considering going with upgraded rear diff bushings and replacing my guibo as well.
@@JohnsonMotorsports I have almost he same car but a 535d. I'm having my guibo replaced tomorrow. I have some vibration issues as well but mostly at idle. My mechanic told me it's a motor mount that needs replaced. I have an annoying vibration noise coming from the lower, left compartment by my left knee. Once again at idle typically. I actually had that compartment replaced because the closing mechanism was worn but it still vibrates and makes a noise.
A road force balance and the hub centric sleeves on my after market rims fixed the issue on my car also removing cheap wheel spacers. It's more then likely the wheels. I know people that changed the bushing and still had the vibration at 50-70 bent rim from the inside.
@@JohnsonMotorsports did you have any sounds? Im having little resonance like sound when lightly accelerating at 1.3k rpm, sounds like a muffler heatshield but havent took then out yet to make sure is it those heat shields. Just wonderin if that sound and little vibration is connected.
If replacing the Guibo on both side and still having clunk vibrations then it must be the whole drive-shaft the needs replacing because it might be that the U joints that attached to the Guibo's are ceased or very loosed and have failed. In most cases u will see reddish dust all over the area indicating U joint failure!
Manual or auto? Also tracking vibration since My manual 545i was struck in the rear end. My stick shakes and passenger seat. I’ve done front suspension and all new tires. Now this week doing complete rear suspension as I have play in 1 of the rear wheels. Hoping that takes care of it but sometimes leaning towards drive shaft could be a problem…
