As always, I thank you warmly and deeply for uploading these always illuminating & entertaining Noir Alley opening & closing remarks from our beloved host, good ol' Eddie Muller.
I just watched this movie last night. I don't think Eddie resents the movie, but just knew that this was just a movie that everyone got paid for and didn't really have anything to say
I don't know what's with eddie hostile resentment towards this film and director. i like the film, it's a nice cop killer noir film story set in mexico just like border incident, ride the pink horse and other noir films that dealt with cop killers that are noir like cry of the city and others and i think the director jerry hopper did a good job trying what he could with this noir film and sterling hayden and gloria grahame is great in this film and the villian is easy to hate... so great film and i don't really understand what's his resentment towards this film. why won't he have that same energy with films that he showed this year on noir alley that are trash like violence, bad for each other and the housemaid as well the women on pier 13 so yeah but this is a great noir film so far..
Now that is it what I call a comment. I am still trying to figure it out. But a lot of Noir is like that. Mitcham is one of my favorites. I'd put him with Bogart.
@@roderickcampbell2105Amusing! GG a bit boring except for her vaunted sex appeal. Doesn't do anything for me ;) & she always acted pathetic & needy. Gloria seemed a victim of "Toxic femininity" (a term I just met), trapped in her sex-kitten persona. She was an ultmately tragic character more than an actress - a Noir film all by herself.
I think it's because the performances are not what we know each of those actors could do. I love Gloria Grahamme and Sterling Hayden, but there wasn't much for them to do in terms of writing, so it feels a bit of a noir copy+paste... especially because Crime Wave was SO good and had a twist.

I appreciate that, but really it's not necessary to thank me for each posting. It's my pleasure!

I stumbled on this during covid. Sterling drew me in. Gloria is swell. Billy Chapin is the kid, and Gene Barry is just nasty.

@@roderickcampbell2105 I heartily concur !

So perhaps he's disappointed that it's not a movie where everyone is firing on all cylinders
