Thank you for coming back to my channel!
Three months ago I went separate ways with my former management and it resulted into a long, legal battle. But the good news is, it will be settled this month and both parties can finally move on.
However, my grand piano still hasn't arrived yet because the final negotiation with my former management is still going on, so I couldn't upload anything the whole time. But after seeing the 11th year Animenz anniversary video yesterday from the Anime Piano Community, I knew that I HAD to do something to repay that favor.

• To Animenz - 11th year...
So I went to a professional piano studio today and I spent a few hours to re-record an old fan-favorite: 「This Game」 from 「No Game No Life」!
I used my 「This Game」 piano cover from 2014 as a reference but I also changed a few parts to fit my current arrangement style. Instead of focusing on arpeggios too much like in the past, this version has a better rhythmic structure and it's also more accurate to the original song from Konomi Suzuki. To be honest, it's been a while since I have recorded in front of a camera and I felt almost like a beginner again, haha.
But here I am, back to RUclips. I have to say I really missed you guys and I hope I can continue doing Anime Piano for the foreseeable future as well.
Because starting today, Animenz will begin a new chapter. And the people in the Anime Piano community made me realize that being a part of a community is truly the most rewarding thing you can get as a creator.
Thank you for listening and thank you for all your support during the last 3 months!
It really helped me a lot to overcome all the troubles and I cannot thank you enough for never losing faith in me. I will definitely continue doing my best.

… not saying it is going to happen. But it seems more likely to happen/ get announced this year than last years. They are doing a special 10 year promotion thing in Japan with a ton of merch and blue ray stuff. If that goes well it could show the producers that there is actually still a big audience waiting for a second season. Idk we will see
@@infinite-seeker3016 the anime shouldn't be continuing due to the author's health or by being bankrupt. i have seen lots of reasons but i dont yet know if it's either real or not. take that as a grain of salt. it would never get a season 2, thats for sure.
Author said its not cuz of his health or money issues but that season 1 was so perfect that hes scared of the backlash incase s2 doesnt meet the expectations of the fans😢@@nobody7277

“This Game” was the first Animenz Cover I saw. It was a funny story how I discovered it. I was playing a geometry dash level with Dj-jo’s This game remix, when I first heard the song. The little piano part in the beginning immediately caught my ear, so I wondered if I could find a piano version. When I went to RUclips, I searched for “This Game piano,” and immediately was surprised to see that there were anime covers. I was really late to the anipiano game 🤣. I’m pretty sure your cover was at the top, so I watched it and was amazed. The cover immediately became one of the best piano covers I’ve seen on RUclips. I found the tutorial, but obviously I couldn’t play it 😂. I eventually learned a few measures in the beginning and improvised a simpler left hand. This became the first time I’ve played something seriously on my 70 something key keyboard. When I played it in front of my parents, they were surprised, and happy to see I played something. I was planning to continue self learn, but I was lucky enough to receive lessons. That’s when I discovered my love for playing classical music. Eventually, I started watching more of your videos. I started to hear the classical influence in your covers, which blew my mind. Of course I eventually found my new favorite covers of yours. But even today, “This Game” remains to be a very special song to me. Hearing your cover today brought me nostalgia. I really liked the improved rhythm and some parts. It’s amazing how much your arranging style has improved over the years. Sorry for rambling on, I should conclude this soon 🤣. If I never heard your cover, I would never be where I am at today. Thank you for being a large influence in my life. I really hope the best for your future! :)

The change of the R.H in 2nd verse where the L.H playing the melody are much better than the old version. (Even tho before that, I think the old ver are already good enough).

The first version was outstanding, but this version takes the piece to a whole new level in terms of technique, expression, and control. His “no no no no game no life” section’s phrasing is light years away from what it was six years ago. Bravo!
I also just reviewed my performance from 6 years ago and I noticed that I was occasionally rushing with the tempo, especially during the chorus section. Now my tempo control feels much more natural and stable. It's always good to see your own progression as a musician, haha

If you found the two lines of Japanese lyrics in the description, they roughly mean:
"I'll enjoy my reborn life",

Considering the tremendous difficulties that you had to go through, these lyrics rang so true and almost had me in tears. Times were tough but you weren't disheartened, and because of this you were victorious and now have a new life you can enjoy.

I am a fan of your metaphorical masterpiece, and I too think of kindred times of old, where one experienced the beauty and joy of music, even so without a sheet. The confinement of paper is, indeed, a challenging and claustrophobic experience, however Animenz has been able to defeat even that abnormal confinement. This achievement, alone, is one to be celebrated. But, even after all of this, he continues to blow our minds both metaphorically and physically with his sublime works of art. The consistency, as you said, is truly divine and praiseworthy.

This arrangement is truly an improvement from the already amazing 2014 arrangement. I particularly love the huge bass sound in this video and I really felt like its the only missing ingredient in your 2020 videos.

@@Animenzzz In my opinion, your My Dearest 10th Anniversary arrangement video had the perfect balance of a bright and forward treble, with just the right amount of bass to back it up. Take my words with a grain of salt though, I'm just somewhat knowledgeable about sound design!

I've never been that thrilled to see a steinway back on screen! A bit milder than the original, but I love the new ending at 4:35! There are a few places arranged in new style and can definitely see the evolvement of Animenz

Milder is a really good description! Basically, I reduced a bit the flashy arpeggio ornaments and the arrangement itself sounds more down-to-earth, while at the same time still keeping the core elements of the old piano version.

6 years ago, I listened to this song arrangement and it inspired me to start playing the piano again in middle and high school since I stopped when I was little. To this day, I am still mesmerized by the melody and Animenz's incredible abilities. You have always been one of my greatest musical inspirations and it's great to have you back!
Welcome back Animenz! You and ishter have been my inspiration for a very long time both in piano arrangement and in the face hardship. What inspires me apart from piano is your character. I remember a few years ago, for some other reason, you also went into a depressive state, you also managed to find resolve again and continue the journey despite hardship. Same with this time, with all the legal battles. Your ability to overcome hardship and strive for passion is amazing and not an easy feat. I am really want to thank you and ishter for inspiring me. Also, as a fan, who watched all of your video, what I like the most is that your style keeps evolving! At first I was amazed by how accurate your arrangement is in the early days (butterfly arr etc) in your old upright videos, just as I thought, that it couldn't get better, your guilty crown Euterpe arrangement, Bios arrangement, bringing elements of classical based improvisation bought it to a new level. This era featured extensive use of arppegios. Just as I thought it couldn't be any better, you've proved us wrong again. I was blown away by My dearest and Owari no sekai wa (the ending) by how you have managed make the vibe entirelly classical and made it sound even more awesome! The 4th style change was when you added Jazz elements in arrangement like We are from one piece and Departures which is super cool. It's jazz but in a more controlled manner and blended well with the rest of your classical/anime style. The latest 5th era change was improvisation and the frequent use of multi-vocing which is the latest era. It captures the original song in a more energetic way. I feel like the drum rhythms were imitated the best in this style which drives the energy. And actually, I loved 'here' from mahoutkai no yome (I am learning it atm). It is like a blend of improvisation and planned classical passaged. The emotions bought out by the cadenza was perfect. And I am really exicited to see and follow your journey! I believe there are so much creativity, possibility and limitless potential in arranging! As a fan, I will always support your journey. I believe many people will too! Here is to a better 2021 and beyond!
Edit:There are also a few other short style changes (epic): 'marsary''s left hand stlye blended so well in your kantai collection ED arrangement. And all your Suites (mahou no shojo, kentai collection, Nagi no Asuka (Wave of ocean natural hall reverb) (oh god, they are wonderful, one of my favourites)!

It's a bit hard to describe, but I've always, always admired how - whenever I listen to you play in these videos - it truly feels like you enjoy making them. Accompanied by your talent as a pianist and apparent love for your craft, the fact that you always sound so free and happy to me when you play is irreplaceable and the effect is never lost on me no matter how many times I listen. Thank you so much for producing this music, it's gotten me through countless rough times and quiet nights studying.

3 months in, just finished page 6, absolutely amazing piece, and absolute props to you for arranging it in such an amazing way!
This game was the first song that made me watch the anime because of how good the song was. It wasn't the actual song though, it was your piano version. In all the mere 6 years I've watched and played piano with others, this has got to be the best version I've seen and heard being played. I'll set a reminder for myself in 6 years to come back here and learn this song.
I expect the idea of this piece shall be, "No game no life, while the piano musical life of Animenz is our best game in the world".
I like your videos with arpeggios and some classical elements. It gives the song a majestic tune while still sounding like the anime song we all love.

Funnily enough, I got into several anime thanks to listening to several piano covers from your channel rather than the other way around. I hadn't been taking piano lessons anymore, but I was amazed by your transcriptions so I decided to get back to piano with "Blue Bird". Laughably, I struggled to pin down the first chorus for that song and I put it down for a while in exchange for "Unravel", which resulted in a lot of improvising upon parts that I couldn't play (the right hand octave jumps at "the wall", other very fast left hand arpeggios, etc.). With "This Game", much of the same things resulted but by then, I was regularly playing piano. Recently, I have revisited old songs and learned them fully, learned some more of your piano covers (to the best of my playing ability, ofc -- your pieces are very technically challenging) as well as transcribe some of my own pieces. I'm very glad to have discovered your channel those ~4 years ago, as piano is an indispensable activity in my life.
On a side note:
Indeed, the 2021 version contains noticeably less bass notes and 16th note rhythms in general. For those "reduced arpeggios" it seems like you did cut the right hand arpeggios at 0:46 and its 0:53 equivalent, and parts of the left hand ones at 1:10 and the chorus at 1:26. I like how you opted to use the higher piano range at 2:22 -- it was a nice breather from the busyness of the piece. Same again, from the buildup at 3:47 with the comparatively fewer notes, and well as the deliberate pedal breaks. Interestingly enough, 4:03 felt like "The Moldeau" with the moving left hand notes. You seem to have taken a liking for hitting the higher octaves for the "ringing" effect in 4:34; I've noticed that in "Gurenge" (3:39) and "Crossing Field" (0:48 and many, many others) too. Otherwise, it's also nice to point to the familiar 2014 phrases, too.
TL;DR Thank you for all those years of piano covers, you've changed a large part of my life. Welcome back!
“The Moldau” pattern in 4:03 is a really good comparison! It does really sound similar and it also happens to be in e-minor. I am indeed making more use of the high register of the piano to achieve a “bell”-sound, to let the melody resonate a bit longer before the damper are stopping the strings.
