I went with your word today, and had troubles, too. You were lucky to get the 'GRO' right from the get-go, or almost. This is what I wound up with... Fresh, Track, Grown, Group, Groom. So as some say... a bogey 5!
Good solve, Doug! I'm glad you pulled through in the end!
I got this one in four, with fairly lucky second and third guesses that narrowed my options down to six and then one, according to WordleBot.

A par today! Decoy, taboo, sloop, groom! Happy with par after watching Doug. We were both in hard mode heck even though he didn’t play in hard mode, he essentially did!

I'm not in the habit of testing for the double o, which would have been helpful. Audio, stone, crock, proxy, growl, groom for another nail=biting six! Edit: LOLOL, after viewing the video, I don't feel so bad. Doug and I shared a similar over-confidence in the word growl.

I had some uneasiness but eventually got there in five, in large part because of some good fortune on my fourth guess. STARE, DOILY, CROUP led me to think of words like "wrong", "brown", "grown", "groom", and "broom". I opted for GROWN rather than "brown" because I liked testing the G more than the B because of the word "wrong". If I had gone with "brown" instead, I think I'd have been in a bit of trouble. But with GROxx firmly established at that point, there didn't seem to be anything other than GROOM. I'll happily take the five and survive the day.

Today turned out to be very interesting. Everyone had a different take on the word. Doug made me so nervous not seeing groom. Phew! After stare and doily, I thought of brook, broom, brown, crook, crown, furor, groom group, humor, rumor and wrong. A few words were already used. And , I’m sure, a few I missed. I used rumor to check for the “u” and try to place the “r”. So a “4” for me today.

So close, and you just couldn't see it, I guess. Then the light went on! If groto had been accepted, you'd have known. I almost used broom on my second guess, so I just missed a three, but a four is still good.
fresh-brock-groan-groom was my chain today.
Here in UK we spell grotto with two t's. I had never heard of word grody (sort of like grotty) so that was interesting. My solve went SWEAT, JUICY, BROOD, GROOM for a respectable par 4 which considering I started with double blank on yellow or green lighting up seemed like a good result!

@@conniekb6368 When you’ve “solved” 160+ in a row it’s clear it’s not very challenging. IMO he should do hard mode at this point. But, backing down on the evals is a good compromise
@@conniekb6368 I agree. I have loved Doug's videos for a long time, very funny and relaxed, and he gave me some useful techniques when I was starting out. I think this hard mode turn is making the videos too long and less fun.

According to WordleBot, I overlooked 2 other words: FJORD and HYDRO

I enjoyed your process. I often start with Doug’s word, and it took me 5 to solve too.
@conniekb6368 took me 5 today too. I'd say it's a good day. If it took more than three and more than usual thinking, I consider it a good Wordle word.
I, too, follow and use Doug's starting words without relinquishing my hope of getting a hole in one. So, if it's already been a Wordle answer, I'll opt for another of my own. WAVES is very unlikely to be the answer as Wordle tends to eschew pluralized nouns or verbs with the -s ending form. Good luck with WAVES tomorrow.

“Magnificent!” That was very lucky of me, wow. I never got 2 guess solves, usually they’re rare.
Here is my thought process:
When the O and G lit up in yellow, first I thought to put the G at the end, but that didn’t work, so I put it in the front, maybe with an R perhaps? Then once I put the O after the R, I thought of a double O scenario and the first double O word that I thought of was Groom, so I put that in without hesitation and I got it right! I said “no way!” as my reaction, 🎉😊❤. I hope you all have a good Tuesday! ❤❤❤
