It was common in the 80’s and 90’s for multiple artists to get together on a track for a positive cause. It’s sad you don’t see this anymore.
Exactly it's tragic
Literally R&B music wasn't all about getting panties wet, but the message within the song
Miss the 80s and 90s!
Now these artists are so locked-into their contracts I’d bet something like this is hard to accomplish. Plus radio stations don’t really play collabs.
You don't have a lot of black male R&B artists out today. Now, Usher and Stokely are still putting music out, but a lot of these men have retired or are no longer with us. Oh, and in jail (R. Kelly).
This song just epitomizes 90s RnB and how great it was.
💯
Shoutout to D'Angelo for his pen!
Jason’s Lyric is the movie. Super good movie👌🏽
Lenny Kravitz on the guitar! 🔥🔥
BY THE WAY, THE MOVIE TITLE IS: "JASON'S LYRIC"✊🏾
Dope movie too
@@anthonyanderson9303 NO DOUBT!
Amazing movie!
Great movie excellent song. It’s Tevin Campbell’s voice/runsssssssssssss for me 🤩🙌🏾
@@cm3753 AGREED!!👏🏾
As a child in the 90s we definitely sung this song for pure uplifting. Specifically for young men who looked like us! 💪🏾
you don't hear songs like this these days anymore. Your reaction made me tear up.
Fun fact: D'Angelo wrote this
wow didn't know that
Thank you for sharing that info because I didn't even know.
Right, that's why you see him in the video but not singing. This was his baby.
Wow didn't know that
Wow didn't know this! Thanks for sharing
I tried to stop them but here comes the tears😢
Great song unfortunately we lost a few of these great artist. Melvin Edmonds of After7, Gerald Levert, Dino of H-Town, Kenny Green 0f Intro
Exactly S
I can't watch this song without crying,
Same
Black Men United is not an official group but is a collective of some of the greatest male voices in R&B including Tevin Campbell, El Debarge, Christopher Williams, Brian McKnight, Gerald Levert, Stokely (of Mint Condition), Aaron Hall, Joe, the members of After 7 and Boyz II Men, that RKelly guy, among many others. They came together to record this inspirational song for the Jason's Lyric movie soundtrack. There is a video of them performing this Live somewhere on here. Classic song written by D"Angelo and his younger brother, Luther.
Live version was the American music awards
This song gets me everytime. Love It.
black man should you unite stop killing each other
black man lives are harder. some people expect for you to do worse and kill one another
but you can be strong and come out of poverty you know u can standup and don't u fall
THIS is why 90's music is still relevant & will remain the BEST era EVER! Pure Talent, Artists United, No Competition, all while speaking life into our culture. Take me back please!
I LOVE THIS SONG. We had artists doing this a lot back in the day. Artists nowadays are too proud, "masculine", petty and selfish to do positive songs like this. There aren't even enough artists to do this. Nobody wants to share the spotlight. Besides Silk Sonic, are there any other groups? 😐 R&B needs to be revived. Dudes need to start singing in the rain, crying and grabbing the air again. 😂
Lol 😂😂😂
💯💯💯
U ain't never lied FACTS 🔥🔥😂❤
You are so correct, artist use to enjoy each other's talent, not envy.
You can't deny R Kellz
💯
Teaching my students this song for black history month. So sad there are no songs like this.
You are welcome nephew, for playing my request. 💙 🤎🤎🤎🖤🖤🖤
One of my favorites..loved Jason's Lyric!!!! This song is needed today still!!!! Our black men need to be encouraged every day!!!!! Love it!!!! And these are classic singers Stokley from Mint Condition..El Debarge, Gerald LeVert...the list goes on and on....singers!!

Love all these voices I can remember some of them lol Tevin Campbell, Gerald Levert,Elle Debarge,Stokley probably spelled that wrong lol lead singer from the group Mint Condition, lead from Tony Toni tone, Brian McKnight, Joe, Christopher williams,R Kelly, Aaron Hall, Kevon Edmonds... oh I was able to see back then so I’m just going off the voices I know oh yeah Keith Sweat lol
Boys II Men, Christopher Williams, members from After 7, H-Town, and many more😂😂
This is beautiful. I get chills and a tear every time I see it.
Me too 😭 ❤️
They came together for this song bro!! It gets me everytime
Yes. When men in America was faced with alot. But reacted positive. Not sitting on platforms bashing n bitching about things. They empowered men thru art. Still wonderful to see😍
This song takes me back when I was in middle school. Powerful message!! God bless those men!
Wow, Tevin Campbell. Haven't heard from TC in a while. Great voices. Some of the lead vocals sound familiar also. Great Reaction. Thanks so much. YOU WILL KNOW!😎👍

If I'm not mistaken, everyone couldnt make it for the video but they are singing on the actual recording
As the proud mother of a Black Man in his 30's, I share this video with him at least once a year. Just as a hold on reminder of love and support. Please share with the Black men and boys in your life.
Now you need to react to “Freedom” the theme from the movie Panther which is about the rise and fall of The Black Panthers. It’s a collection of female artists.
I was thinking this same thing when I was watching this video!!! Freedom was a great one too!!
Yes they killed it as wel
Both versions.
Music with a message! fav part is when Joe comes in.
With the ablibs
I Agree 100%...when Joe came on the track
@@aaronfleming9830 Followed by Brian McKnight taking it home. What a track! Bought it on LP as a young man and listen to it today, to lift my spirits and keep me strong for my family (wife and two children). Every day I live the message in this song.
Jason’s Lyric is the movie…..awesome movie…..song has a powerful message that the young people need to hear…..BMU is it a group…..it was different men artist that came together to do this song showing unity
They all came together for the sing. Group called "BLACK MEN UNITED"!
You smiling and loving this made me smile. This been my damn since it came out.
Black Men, I love you!!
I remember this song and pulled it up in my old archives. It's good to see your listening young man. It's a great song! ❤❤❤
They rocking I love it I listing everyday all day y'all
Man I listen to this song almost every day….. love this song
Man it was good to see this one! It brings the chills. This type of unity is beautiful and what we all need to see and the message is still so relevant 🤎🤎
Tevin Campbell, Geral levert, Raphael Seydic, Brian McNight, The lead singer of Mint Condition, Boyz ll Men, Keith sweat, Christopher Williams, Aaron Hall. That’s all I caught. Sorry I recognize a lot of them but I can’t remember all of there names. But this song brings back so many memories. I didn’t watch Jason’s Lryic, because at that time I couldn’t watch Black movies anymore because usually they were sad. But I loved this song that was apart of the sound track. It was a very uplifting song. And they just came together for this song I believe. Remember this was like 93’ or 94’ a lot was going on in our community, I believe this was after the million man march and the million woman march. There was push for ending violence and unification in the Black communities around the country.
I love seeing the joy of discovery the classics. Keep up the good work!
This song had been playing in my head the last few days, and I hadn't thought of it in years! I HAD to listen!
It hit hard today. ❤😂❤ #CLASSIC
One of my all time favorite songs. I used to listen to it over and over and over
Love this song. Whoever is playing the bass on it is killing it. We need more music like this in this day and time.
Probably D'Angelo
Lenny Kravitz
That is Raphael saadiq from Tony Toni Toni playing the bass
Fun fact Raphael Saadiq taught Thundercat when he first started getting tour jobs
Classic 🔥🔥🔥 Back when our people came together for a cause!
THIS. WAS. SO. INSPIRING!! It touches me like it did back in the 90s❤️🔥🎶❤️🔥🎶❤️🔥
These guys are so amazing that the live version is even better.
Love this song!!Came back to see your reaction again Shawny ❤
Wow your reaction to this song by BMU😊🥰🖤🥰 Made me smile with joy !! Di Angelo, wrote that song for The Movie Jason's Lyric starrrig Carl Paine, Bokeem Woodbine and Jada Pincket and more👍👍There needs to be a reboot of this song for today👈✌️🖤💪Be safe out there going and coming !!
It's definitely a powerful song.
I discovered this about 2 years ago and I am a white Old woman and I love this as far as I'm concerned This should be the anthem for black history months that's my opinion
YES MY YOUNG BROTHER!!!! THIS IS AN ANTHEM!!! YOU WILL KNOW
Absolutely beautiful, just like the Jason's Lyric movie.
Is 2024 and it still the black man's national anthem❤❤❤❤❤
Your reaction blessed me!
The song is from the movie Jason's Lyric. This is a collaboration by many of the popular artists of 1990's.
"Jason's Lyric" is the movie. Great great song.👍
I love this song 🎵 ❤️ and definitely needed to hear this tonight 🙌 thank you 🌺
Thus was my ish back in the day...
One of my favorite songs. I love it. ❤
No cursing. There's another meaningful song called patchwork quilt, I think you'd like. New subby. Thanks for your reaction to this song.
Thanks for the sub!🙏🏽
You were feeling the beat before the 1st note. That's how you know the song is Fire!!!
You should react to the bmu at the 1994 ama's ❤❤
D’Angelo wrote and produced this song and Raphael Saadiq is playing bass. You should react to their song “Be Here”-Raphael Saadiq ft. D’Angelo
What’s rarely known is that Lenny Kravitz was playing guitar on it.
I'm loving ur show. I love the fact that a young guy as yourself take time to embrace the music of the past.
I know you get alot of influence from your father. I would like to see him on an episode with you discussing Old-Skool Rap and R&B.
Keep doing your thing my man. PEACE! ✌🏾
I LOVE this song!! Back in the day artist got together for causes that touch them like USA for Africa and voices that care BUT!!!! When these strong black men got together and recorded this theme from the Movie Jason’s Lyric. It was bananas!! It definitely bops almost 30 years later! I hope they do something on the anniversary of this.
This song was awesome. Best singers, Tevon Campbell, Gerald Levert, Brian McKnight, Chistopher Williams, H-Town, Joe, Stocky, Boys 11 Men, Aaron Hall, El Debarge, Keith Sweat, and many, more top singers. From movie, Jason Lyrics
This song is a try classic. It had not gotten old.
If u were born after 2000 u miss a great time in music where motivation of our men was expressed and demonstrated. We need that back. Oh plus it my favorite. JASONS Lyric
FR! this is as encouraging and inspirational as it gets.
Jason’s Lyric my favorite movie of all time!
This song was played in the movie "Jason's Lyric".... if you haven't seen it yet, you should check it out. It's a good movie and you'll recognize a lot of familiar faces. I absolutely love this song as I see you too Shawny... lol I'm surprised you're just coming across this song as it is a classic.
Jaysons Lyric. Super classic
The film is called Jason's Lyric and the Juice logo in the top right-hand corner is an old New Zealand music station. You're welcome.
Movie = Jason’s Lyric
Song written by D’Angelo and featured vocals from such independent artists and singing groups as Aaron Hall, After 7, Al B. Sure!, Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, Christopher Williams, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Damion Hall, El DeBarge, Gerald LeVert, H-Town, Intro, Joe, Keith Sweat, The Rude Boys, Portrait, R. Kelly, Silk, Sovory, Stokley Williams of Mint Condition, Tevin Campbell, Raphael Saadiq, who also played bass, and Usher. Lenny Kravitz also played guitar.
They were all fire
Jason's lyric, with Jada Pinkett-Smith. Forest Whittaker.
Allen Payne, Bokeem Woodbine, Eddie Griffin, Treach and Lamard Tate
This was a great song from the movie all men featured were amazing singers! And sadly some have passed away and well one is ummm well... in a great deal of trouble....but great song non the less... and whne Aaron Hall comes in my my my ....
Yes it is a movie and the title is Jason's lyric and all of them game together to do the song
When they ask if R&B is dead, I can point to this example of when it was thriving. And this is just the men. Now, you can’t put together a group of artists that came out within the last 7-10 years that can sing like this. Just a bunch of mediocre or sub-mediocre vocalists, with very few exceptions. I miss this era.
Well said!
This is a soundtrack from the movie Jason's Lyrics
Check out Freedom from the Panther soundtrack.
This song is on The Motion Picture "Jason's Lyric" Soundtrack!!!
I can't help it.😢 Beautiful song
This song U will know is dedicated to this movie called Jason's Lyric.
