We do maintenance and installs for a large landlord firm, they got a company in to do 3-4 unvented system installs, we were busy at the time and was happy for the other company to come in and do them. Every one of them has huge issues. One of them, they put an end cap on the heating zone valve, and the hot water primary return ties in to the central heating, so when the hot water is on the entire house heats up, this is obviously through the summer so students turn off all the rads and it overheats. It's crazy how bad it is, but they all have different weird and wonderful problems, fit by a fairly large known company. It's crazy how bad some are and get away with it.
Edit: good one on that job, must've been a right hassle, at least you got through it fairly calmly! GJ

only thing with leaving unvented cylinder without a zone valve on the flow means that if heating is on it’s still heating the water up, depending on temp of boiler flow, can cook it and set off tprv.

Brother... i feel your frustration with so called 'heating engineers' who cant fault find heating electrics and just solve the problem by changing everything and charging accordingly!!!!.
My brother brought a property to let, and he left the repairs to the estate management company.
Hes not someone to quibble when things go wrong, as he doesn't want the tenant to suffer.
On a y plan 3 port system the engineer diagnosed and replaced a programmer.
My brother then later got a call to say the system still wasnt working, and the engineer wanted payment for changing the thermostat also but now a new mid position valve was also required.
I said not to pay and i would call in over the weekend.
It transpired before i got my electrical testers out that the wiring looked incorrect and some cables weren't even connected.
After tracing and wiring correctly all was left working.
I explained to my brother there was no way whoever done the job knew what they were doing but still charging top dollar.
After a strongly worded email to the management company they refunded my brother his money back as they didnt want to get into a 'my engineer is better than yours' spat...😂🎉

Just been out to a semi new build today 11 different engineers been there not one of them had seen the flow and return round the wrong way took me 5 mins to diagnose and 2 hours to swap round now no banging when the zone valves shut off cos the bypass is now in the correct orientation. Does make you wonder what these people are actually doing heating can be challenging don't get me wrong but its not rocket science, people need to slow down and take time to get it right the first time.

  • @TheLeedsleedsleeds

Tbf putting zone valves on return prolongs the life of zone valves as they work on a lower temperature
But that was total installer error as it was crossed over all over shop
    A real mess
If I zone heating I put them on the return but if it’s to a cylinder I put them on the flow so anyone in the future knows what’s going on

    • @cputilitysolutions
      @cputilitysolutions  Год назад +1

Bang on, in theory I could have done that and it would have potentially sorted the issue. However the customer had said some rads used to get hot even when running just HW, so there would have still been the issue of reverse circulation
