- The best-selling author of e-books for Sony cameras explains 3 different ways you can assign functions to buttons:
1) You can assign just one function to one button (some functions aren't available in the menus!),
2) You can assign up to 10 settings to just one button by using the Reg Cust Shoot Set function.
3) Recall just about everything in the Camera 1 and Camera 2 menus with the Memory Recall function.
This demonstration uses the Sony A9 camera, but most Sony cameras circa 2019 work the same way.
Also in this video:
Why you would assign "zoom" to a button (hint: it does something useful when shooting videos)
Explains what the Bright Monitoring function does (not in menus)
Explains the Live View Display function.

If the book is as clear as the video, I can't wait
awesome tutorial and awesome tech by Sony cameras. This is why Sony has been lightyears ahead of Canon/Nikon in the mirrorless world for YEARS and why so many have switched over. I love my 3 Sony cameras and saving up for a 4th.... Keep up the great work Gary. Your vids are the BEST
thanks. im getting the book
Isn't this a bit out-of-date? After (I can't remember which) firmware update for the α9, there are separate Custom Key settings for stills and movies - and a whole lot more in terms of AF functionality.
This was designed to be a generic video for the current generation of Sony cameras. (My schedule is so packed for the next 6 months that I may not have time to make a comprehensive video about every new camera...)
old menu system - please retitle the video.
Good idea! Done.
