In the very beginning of Dragonball, Yamcha was Goku's first sideman, he was skilled, knowledgeable and helpful. He and Goku respected eachother and fought together against Pilaf's goons. But then Krillin came along and the tournaments where Yamcha lost in the first round of the final each time. Yamcha became a sacrifice to show how strong the antagonists were. It's not that Yamcha is weak, he's just out of his league against these other great fighters. The Saiyan saga was just the last nail in his character, he was officially obsolete and became the meme of the series. After that he barely exists in the story, accomplishing nothing and forgotten, he was only at the cell games to watch and got rushed again. Even Tien and Krillin at least manage to do something, not much but something in the last arcs of Z while Yamcha is completely sidelined.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. He is kinda raw to only be a human tho

Yamcha cheating on Bulma was weird. It doesn't seem like it fit his character. It seemed like somewhere between Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, Toriyama just decided to hate Yamcha for some reason.
Yamcha remained loyal to his friends after being brutally killed fighting alongside them over and over again. Somehow he couldn't remain faithful to the girl he overcame his phobia for?
Towards the end of the Frieza saga, Yamcha, Tien, and the little albino thing even got stronger than most of the Ginyu Force. Didn't help since they were all still dead. Hell of an accomplishment for humans.
I get the idea he'd be overpowered in most other anime. He was more unfavored by the author than weak. Compare Yamcha to even main characters from shows like Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto, Bleach, Fairy Tail.

Right it was sort of out of place. They did have to have some type of separation of the two to make room for Vegeta 🤙🏾😂

The first time I saw Yamcha, I actuallu thought he was cool with his long hair and cross scar on his cheeks.

Yamcha doesn't deserve the unnecessary hate he gets from 90% of the fandom (Mostly the Majority of fans that started with Dbz) When they first witnessed the incident In the Sayain saga they immediately hopped on the "Yamcha Slander" bandwagon, In the first time viewer's or reader's perspective they see Yamcha as a weak pathetic joke of a character because they had not bothered taken the time to read and/or watched Og Db to understand his character and see his badassery moments in full light before getting into the series.
If any other character had been caught off guard by a Saibaman during the Sayian saga like Krillin, Tien, Piccolo, or even Chiaotzu, people would have brushed it aside as a genuine mistake and moved on.

That’s fair. I think people that started with DB definitely have a different perspective. When you look at Yamchas character as a whole and only look at it from the end of DBZ backwards to the beginning I totally see peoples perspectives and why he gets so much hate

I kinda just went with the meme because it was funny. I liked Yamcha growing up and felt really bad for him when he died. I thought it was an unfair fight.

The meme is hilarious. Yamcha was cool in Dragon Ball, but in Z he holds so many L’s it’s hard to keep track. Also I’m assuming your talking about his Saibaman death, he also gets killed by Super Buu which was also an unfair matchup

Nah, he ain't. He's the most robbed character from Dragon Ball. He never got a fair chance to be a hero. There are many more losers in anime, just he is one of those in shonen most people know of.

I respect the take. Do you have any examples of less mainstream characters?
