But wait there's more! A PO BOX finally wahoo!
First, a disclaimer: So many of you have kindly offered to send me things, including vintage items you may have inherited, and I am so honored you would think of me and of course I do adore vintage treasures, however, unfortunately I only have so much storage space currently! So there is a chance that if something just wont work for me, or doesn't fit me etc, that I may not be able to keep all of your lovely things. Please only send things if you are okay with the possibility that I may donate items I just cannot keep. If you would prefer I put things that I can't keep into the TCH Etsy shop to help raise funds for me and the channel, please specify this in a note or letter in your parcel. Thank you so much!

Thank you for watching! Хобби
I love that you don't limit posting to Fridays, like so many creators do, so that I can enjoy your videos more .
I usually post on Thursdays, and sometimes bonus Monday videos ✨❤
That dress is fantastic on you! And your cotton mock up fabric might make cute pjs/flop around the house-wear. I live in knits because I have nerve damage (and thus lots of pain) in my abdomen, so rigid waistbands are out and soft knits are best for all the sitting and resting I have to do. It was actually a rabbit-hole dive to see if I could figure out handsewing knit fabrics that led me to CosTube! I stayed because passionate geekery is absolutely my jam and it turns out I love learning about how clothes are and were made 😁
Ironically, channels like yours are making me think I can make some wovens work for me and giving me the tools to figure out how, and that's priceless 💜
Thank you! 💜
I love the snake skin! I don't sew, so it was interesting to see in "real-time" how different stretch fabrics react to the same pattern. I love your style videos and lookbooks, and I'd like to know if you ever like the mock-up look more than the final fabric.
Thank you! I don't usually make mock ups, only when I'm in uncharted territory, so that never happens to me I'm afraid!
Love your blue top 😍❤️
Thank you!
Bianca, your video is SO fortuitous! Lately, I've been struggling with the idea of working with wovens to create my own wardrobe, and I'd forgotten that knits are doable if handled properly. I've just been putting it off because I still need to mock up my slopers 🤦♀️
I love the phrase, “personal side seams”
I spitted my drink at "my personal side seams" line. Bianca, your narration is the best.
I am comfortable with wovens, and intimidated by stretchy knits. It was helpful to have you do this video from a non-expert stance as I feel it made some things make more sense to me. Thanks!
That dress is so cool omg. I've been procrastinating making my own swimwear because knits make me anxious. This video is very encouraging!
Thank you!!
you look amazing in that blue top 💙
Thank you Kelly!
I have the same overlocker as you Bianca and gave it a good service and recalibrated my tension discs (ooh, fancy) the other day thanks to a video that Abi’s den uploaded. Now my machine is working wonderfully, smooth and less clunky sounding, the stitches are lovely and the tension is spot on so I highly recommend that video to save some money, the blade is cheap and easy to change too and if I can do it anyone can!
It’s fab to see you delving into stretch fabrics but then everything you do is fab, so there’s that…..
🤣🤣🤣😀
Absolutely love all of the fabrics that you chose to use today for your knit tutorial. ❤️❤️
Thank you Darylyn!
Love, love, LOVE the shiny fabrics you used. I would love to made some tops out of those fabrics.....sadly my lifestyle doesn't fit them anymore. I once made a stretch velour dress. Looked fab so long as I didn't move. While walking from the bus to work, with a rain coat over top - thank GAWD I did. The ruddy thing crept up in a spiral ! So that by the time I got to my desk, it was wrapped up around my arm pits LOL. Thank GAWD too that I had my own office as there was much tugging and swearing involved. Needless to say I wore it that one time only. All day long it wanted to creep up.
An elastic belt and that dress will be nipped 👍 so the blouse your wearing 😍 love it all!!
Thank you Michelle!
The fabric of that dress is super gorgeous. :}
Your Bernina knows you don't like her, that's why she plays up... 😏 I totally get why you love that stretch velvet - what glorious colours! 😍 The dress turned out brilliantly. Very interesting to see how you adapted the sleeve pattern for knits - I follow commercial knit patterns so I'd never really thought about that. Thanks for sharing your process 🙏
Thank you Mara! 💜
The dress looks great! Love the 'oil slick' stretch velvet!! I need to search for some. Can't wait to see what's next. 🤓
Thank you Ashley!
I’m still scared of working with knits but your recent videos are making it seem more approachable
Love the final dress ❤
I hate working with knits, too. I'd rather use wovens. Here's a tip my last sewing teacher gave us - use a double/twin needle to sew hems on knits. It's the same needle for making smaller pintucks and it works perfectly for hems on knits. It gives you a straight stitch that still stretches. The needles come in 3 different needle spacings: 2mm, 3mm, & 4mm. I recommend using the 2mm because you'll be less likely to end up with a pintucked hem. And if you want you can trim the raw edge of the hem down to the stitching line.
Wow, you look fabulous in your mock-neck dress Bianca. Neat to see your process working with knits:)
Thank you Rikki!
This fabric is gorgeous. The dress is gorgeous. I also wished to look like an oil puddle, not sure in a back alley but definitely under a street lamp!! Best best wishes to you!! 👍😳😉👍
Thank you Jeanette!
I too am ambivalent about stretch fabric, it doesn’t stay put when sewing. Yet it has its place. Thanks for the video.
Thank you!
Love the dress it's beautiful on you 😍
Thank you Pam!
FAB!!!!! LOVE IT!!!
stitching at tension to maintain stretch allowance.... I have tried this with varying results and been advised by many seasoned mentors to never apply tension to fabric and always allow a stretch stitch selection to take care of maintaining stretch... I do like that you are free from this preconception to get such great results. BTW - I love your fabric selections and designs. Lot's of noir and even a bit of comic con and certainly a bunch of classic form fitting retro - great style and creativity. Thank you.
The only knits I've worked with are when I hemmed pajama pants lol. The velvet pattern is amazing ✨️
Definitely dominatrix vibes in that dress!
😂
I am glad you are showing us how to deal with stretch fabrics. They have always frightened me. I want to make some modest tank tops to wear this summer. I'm thinking of using a heavier rib knit. Watching you tackle these things always makes me think that maybe I can too.
Thank you Julie! Worth trying for sure!!
The thing I love about stretchy stuff is, that when I cut it bigger without thinking, I can just cut down the sides and make it smaller. Just finishing one project like this this week :D I thought it would be great idea to make it little spaceous, but it just hang weird, so I cut it back into original lines :D Love your spandexis, I am desperate to find something this oilslick on our small market :(
If I had a body like yours I would also nip that waist in tight!! 😍 But seriously I hate working with knits and stick to wovens even though it sometimes limits my fabric choices. That stretch velvet was amazing! Thanks again for another great lesson.
Thank you Ellen! I am veeeery happy to be back to my wovens now and back on my 99K 😂✨
thank you!, I cannot believe how much I am learning from you!, love the dress!, looks amazing on you!
Thank you!
I love that fabric and definitely need to make myself a few of those tops and dresses. Just found your pattern block videos so will be working my through these!
Have you tried the Maraflex thread? It’s AMAZING for knits. I reckon you use that on the vintage machine. Also, I really like how you can just do a straight stitch for a hem.
That is some gorgeous fabric! And your eye make up is killing it!!! Love those colors!
Thank you!
Just finished my first stretch project that wasn't a t-shirt mod and I will also stick mostly to wovens, but oh that metallic velvet. 😍
Yowza! That oil slick fabric is epic! I'd love to see you do the blue cowl neck top you have on in the intro/conclusion. Looks like a million on you.
Thank you Marcella! I made the blue top over on Patreon 😅
Good tip's about the change in stretch, loved these, looking forward to the next. x
Thank you Christine!
Rainbow oil slicks are mesmerizing. I can see why you fell for this fabric. Thanks for another excellent video!
Thank you Dannie!
You really are amazing! How is your year going so far? Mine is going really well! I worked really hard on so much last year and I'm feeling so fantastic. It's been a big help for me to stop my negative thoughts, talk, comments and general only allow the positive in my life. I was amazed at how difficult it was and how much better I would feel because of it! 💙 🤗
I really love the dress! Gorgeous fabric!!! I also loved the music you used!
Thank you Thea!
I'm living for the cyberpunk and similar things you've been doing lately! So much so that you inspired me to boot up my Sims 4 game and start building a cyberpunk city.
Thank you
When you sew the shoulder seam, sew over clear elastic or twill tape. This keeps the shoulders from stretching.
Sewing the sleeve on flat is how I prefer to stitch knits. Just like you showed. Works out so nice and is most logical. As much as they are annoying to sew knits are usually very forgiving in fitting.
I bought a yard of that same iridescent snakeskin fabric to use as part of a dress! It was neat to see it in action in your video.
Love all of these on you! I basically only sew knits & get super frustrated with woven fabric
Thank you Sarah!
gorgeous as always.
Thank you!
sorry to hear these fabrics are so hard to work with, but with your designs what a great effect you achieve 🤩
Thank you Marcco! It's just because I don't have practice with them, maybe one day I'll feel more confident 😂
That is Awesome and thank you for sharing the Pattern you made I have a list of things I want for me when my Blocks are ready to go !!
Thank you Alexandra!
Love the dress so flattering on you, both the tops looked beautiful 🇬🇧❤️😄
Thank you Jaki!
Really enjoy watching you make adjustments on the fly. Someday I'll be this good. More practice is needed...
Thank you!
I literally can’t thank you enough for the patterning instructions. I’m brand-spanking new to sewing, and all i’ve wanted is to be able to pattern my own clothes. But every little step really intimidated me, i bought pattern making books and watched a handful of videos but everyone just seems to gloss over the smaller details and individual parts of the garment.
Tldr: you’re the only sewing influencer who has helped me with pattern drafting, thank you thank you thank you
Thank you! You've got this, you'll be a drafting wizard in no time, the start is the hardest but then it's soooo nice ✨
Watching this makes me want to try my hand at this sort of thing, I just love these videos and that blue top you're wearing in both the beginning and end is gorgeous! I Love that Blue! ^o^ :)
Thank you!
Personal side seams 🤣 good lord I love you bianca.
I just received my order of 9 metres, 90" wide (because we work in metric and imperial in this house), two tone taffeta in a sage green with a lilac shift. I'm going to make a suit, and a top with an applique fabric overlay. I thought that was stepping out of my comfort zone...then here Comes TCH with all the spandex in all the colours 🤣
Shifty taffeta forever 💜
Fantastic, well done you👍
Thank you Sharon!
Very cool 😀
These are my favorite tops to make! I recently did a batch sewing of 5 and I wear them SO much! I don’t have a block pattern so I used modern McCall’s 7983 bodysuit pattern and converted it to a top. It’s a great hack
My jaw is on the floor seeing you in THAT dress!!!
Thank you!!
🤩 sEnsAtionaL 🤩
Hi, I have found that Gütterman makes a stretch thread to use with stretch fabrics. I haven't tried it yet even though I have the tread in my thread jar. I just thought I'd share it with whomever is interested. Yours, Ann
Great dress! I'd love to see you make the top you're wearing. I've struggled with making myself a drapey neck line that isn't too low. Doing an FBA is a must for me, but it made my neckline way too low to be comfortable, if you know what I mean!
I was thinking the same thing: I also would love to see a video on the blue cowl neck top! 🙂
Thank you! I'll be showing a cowl neck dress here on the channel quite soon, but this blue top and a few other cowls are available on my Patreon as well 🧵
I've got 13" biceps too! We could be Biceps Buddies!!!
And thanks for showing something with stretchy fabric, I've got a lot in my stash from the bad old days when I did everything wrong (now I only do about half of it wrong) that I shold probably make use of at some point...
And I love that drapey blue shirt you're wearing, I've been unsuccessful in previous attemps to recreate a drapey shirt I have but after consuming as many of your videos as I could find, I might try tackling that one again...
"Everything's working out too nicely.... This is suspicious..." OMG I feel that way every time something works out well... Thankfully this vest I'm wearing that is a wearable mockup for a fancy vest I plan to make later has one wonky pocket so I don't feel like it's going too well...
That snakeskin holographic stuff for your second attempt, holy crap was that ever Slytherin once you got it on!! Second skin!!! And holy moly, that oil slick patina stretch velvet, yummm!!! I too wish to look like an oil slick, though generally that requires more effort than my usual "heap of clothes on a lump who doesn't care" look. I do definitely have some stretch velvet in my stash, that's what I used a lot of in the bad old days, stretch makes up for a lot of fit issues.
Thank you! I have a cowl neck demo coming up soon ✨
You could put a zipper in to make the opening for head larger
Video on that pretty blue top you're wearing, please? It's so lovely - NEED it.😊
Thank you! That top was a patreon video, but I do have a cowl neck dress coming up soon!
@TheClosetHistorian Yay, looking forward to it. 😊
That stitch is great but you need to trim it back to the points to get the full stretch. Overlockers/sergers are for speed and the best thing for knits. Now you have a pattern that fits go for it. Love watching your pattern drafting you have the same intuitive eye based on knowledge of your body. Excellent work, stunning dress.
Thank you Janice!
I will trade my stretchy handiness for some of your woven handiness!
*swoon* That oilcolored fabric, yes please. I have to do research if it is available in the Netherlands
My mom loves working with knit fabrics. I, on the other hand, will go out of my way to avoid using knits.
👏👏👏😍😍😍
Some stretch stitches (overlock stitch, etc.) have a "direction" that makes one side of the stitch pointy and one side flatter -- does it matter which side goes toward the seam allowance and which side goes toward the body of the garment?
I go with pointy side towards the seam allowance and smoother side towards the body! Clearly I am so /hip/ to the stretch stitches terminology 😂
@@TheClosetHistorian thank you!! ✨️ You are the main teacher on my pandemic-launched sewing journey and I very much appreciate it
Hi Bianca! I was just wondering when you took out 2 inches of the center seam of the back bodice. Did that include the dart or was it the seam allowance of the center back? Thank you 😊
It included the 1" of seam allowance I usually have along my center back (becuase I put zippers there 😅) /and/ then 1" of the general width of the pattern as well. I just ignored the dart on the back, though it is around 1" so ehhhh it all rhymes in the end I guess
Thank you for clearing that up 😅😃
Why is sewing the arms flat good with knits, but not wovens?
You can do it with some woven projects too, I just don't personally!
@@TheClosetHistorian Good to know!
Did you burn your hand?
Dye stains from tie dye ✨
Spiderweb pyjamas methinks
You are such a bad a$$! I Freaking Love You ❣️
I am just so -- well, let's not say afraid, but, maybe hesitant -- to sew knits. I really need to get past it.
I am too, I just keep things simple and try to avoid anything tooooo floopy 😅
wholly unrelated to the video but ive seen your name around a few times and it just occured to me "closet historian" as in, fashion. not "closeted historian". i love reading comprehension
