Triple Play is a favorite tradition here at Missouri Star. Once a month, Jenny, Misty, and Natalie each demonstrate their own, unique spin on a favorite block, technique, or template. In this episode, the talented Doan ladies show off three fabulous new Churn Dash quilts.
Jenny's "Scrambled Churn Dash" is made with 5 inch squares of precut fabric, also known as charm packs. Her fabric is Colour Wall 5" Stackers by Sue Daley Designs for Riley Blake. She starts with classic church dash blocks, then chops 'em up, scrambles the pieces, and sews 'em back together. The result is a show-stopping multicolored church dash-easy as pie!
Misty's "Hens and Chicks" quilt is made with layer cakes. Her fabric is Hibiscus 10" Stackers
by Simple Simon & Company for Riley Blake. This pattern combines big churn dashes surrounded by little churn dashes-just like chickens surrounded by their babies!
Natalie's "Colossal Churn Dash" is a layer cake quilt featuring a big 'ol churn dash bordered by an even BIGGER churn dash! Her fabric is Honey Bee 10" Stackers by My Mind's Eye for Riley Blake.

I have in my mind a picture of a little conveyer belt behind you on the floor taking all your scraps away! Lol.
I'm making the giant churndash right now. Thank you for the tutorial!
I loved Misty's pattern. I made this and also made some pillow shams with one big one in the middle and 2 small ones on each side. I love it
I have never liked the churn dash but Misty's quilt could change my mind!
That was my exact thought! 😀
Agree
Scramble churn dash is so pretty. I bet it would look good with a black background.
Natalie's quilt rocks!!!!!! I absolutely love Natalie's quilt!
Once again Natalie totally nailed it for not only completely thinking outside the box, but for making a fast and simple quilt.
Love all today's quilts but Jenny's scramble was so bright and colourful. Natalies quilting was a beautiful pattern♥️🇦🇺
Love Natalie’s ,as a beginner I feel I can manage hers best
This video helped me so much! I jyst couldn't process the size difference when I cut mine out. I looked at it for days and days and then decided to search your videos hoping to find a simple explanation. Thank you MSQ! ❤
I love churn dash! Natalie, your looking good, girl!!
I absolutely love Natalie's quilt!
Natalie's quilt is great. I think it just may be my next one!
I love to quilt. Each grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great grandson graduate I make them a quilt. Also quilts for older cousins as I can. I take pictures and put in photo book with dates, who got it and what for.
Wish I had done that when I started quilting 40 years ago.

What a great idea to have the book of pictures! I think I have all the pictures. I think I will do this too. Thanks for the great idea!!
Love all the quilts today especially Jenny's second quilt!
it is golden, that one!
Loving all the your quilts but my favorite is Natalie's. Thank you ladies .
I love all the quilts. I’d love to see Natalie’s entire quilt because it was hard to get the full effect. Wonderful as usual ladies! Thanks a bunch!
Go Natalie... keep those "quickies" coming.... i have a lot of precuts to sew up... and i'm 75 this year!!!! Hugs, to all GB
Great quilts today ladies and Natalie just made the video for me with her comment to Misty. 'I still love her!.' So sweet. X
I love your banter. With all the back and forth we’ve learn even more
Love "Triple Play" ... these 3 ladies are naturally entertaining while presenting the important details of the tutorials. ♥️♥️♥️
You ladies are so precious. Just love each quilt. The to do list grows on every Friday.
Misty, just love your quilt. Love them all, but yours really grabbed my attention
I love Natalie’s churn dash-it is a good way to use large print 10” squares that you don’t want to cut up!
Hurray! It's Triple Play Day! I love the creativity you three display. Makes me wonder "what if" and gives me the confidence to try new ideas.
I love seeing the triple plays not just for all the ideas but how you all see how you each do little things differently to get the same results. Makes everyone feel better about doing what works best for them.
I love the mother/daughter dynamic of Natalie and Jenny. Natalie stands like in Jenny’s space and she just works around her. I’m sure she’s been doing that forever. It’s very sweet. I bet Natalie was a fun kid. The whole family had to be fun back in the day.
This has to be one of my favourite Triple Plays. I love the churn dash block and seeing it switched up the way you ladies have done it is inspirational. Your fabric choices are always excellent as well. Congrats from Canada 🇨🇦
I am not a huge fan of the churn dash but Misty’s is amazing!!! I love it so much I am going through my layer cakes right now!
Each of these designs are fantastic! I really love the cheerful color mix of Jenny’s, the amazing design of Misty’s and the beautiful modern and simple scale of Natalie’s! Well done!!!
Love the Colossal! So modern AND traditional.
My day is made!! I so look forward to triple play day every month, and today definitely did not disappoint. Love all 4. Thank you ladies!! xxx
Natalie I love your quilt, Time Warp is a cool name!
One of my favorite blocks - I want to make all four versions!!
Jenny, your quilt just looks happy!
Jennie’s mind works just like mine! Misty, your quilt is so gorgeous and perfectly named. Nataly, again you are so imaginative, love it! Keep ‘em coming ladies.
I always look forward to the triple play tutorials because even if I never make the quilts I always learn something new from each one. This time did not disappoint. I love the fact you approach things differently and also explain your logic.
You ladies are awesome. A trip to visit you all is in my bucket list. Love you all ❤️❤️❤️
Oooh! Misty’s was such a puzzle for my eyes!! It took until the very last minute to realize it really wasn’t on point! Brilliant and beautiful 💕
I really enjoyed this one - and as usual, I liked Misty's the best. Can't wait to try it with all my scrap fabric
I love the way the small churn dash blocks circle the large one in Misty's quilt!
Another great tutorial from the fab 3. I loved all the quilts, but I think Natalie's was my favourite so bold and bright.
What a talented family. Great ideas. Keep creating- quilting is therapy!
Oh. My. Gosh!!!!! I’m in love with all four of them! Love that Jenny’s are usually classic, Misty’s usually involve tiny pieces and are a little girly, and that Natalie’s usually are more modern! Just goes to show the versatility in a classic block but how it can be reimagined with size and fabric choices!
Triple Play is my fave and I look forward to this treat! Jenny’s just might become my go to for baby quilts! I was waiting for Jenny to say, “But wait! There’s more!” 🤣🤣
Very well done ladies!! 🥰🥰
I love the way you show respect and extend grace to each other as you work on projects! I believe it is as important, or perhaps more important than the skills you teach us!!
Love Misty’s! So pretty!
I love the tiny churn dash blocks! It always amazes me how you come up with all the different ideas using the same block. Thanks for sharing!
I started watching the most recent Triple plays first. I have just started back with quilting...I want to compliment Natalie on her weight loss- she looks so great and I know the work was hard. I love the triple plays and the variety of one pattern.
I love Natalie's quilt so decided to make one. Of course I don't follow directions real well so mine is very different but it went together real quick as I needed it for a wedding gift. Thanks ladies they are really all three great looking quilts maybe I'll try one of the others sometime. I would love to send a picture of mine but don't know how on youtube.
Always loved the Triple plays and Always will. It's so fun to see what you three are making out of the exact same block by minimizing, maximizing, sewing together and cut apart, using different fabric lines. I am really enjoying it and you are wonderful, creative and sympathic hosts! Regards from Germany Stephanie
One of my fave blocks along with sun bonnet Sue
Another awesome triple play ladies!!! Thank you for these tutorials! I’ve never done a churn-dash so will try one soon.
Love, love, love all three of these projects! My "to do" list grows longer! Thanks, girls!
I am in love with Jenny's "happy" quilts! I may love the 2nd version the most! TFS
Triple Play is my FAVORITE! Please use more solids. They make even old-fashioned block look modern and fresh. Love you three!
Yay! Triple play! Thanks for your tutorials, love ‘em!
Yet another fabulous Triple Play! Love Natalie’s border hack. I’ll definitely use that method for future quilts.
Thank you, and Stay well!
Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
I usually think Natalie knocks it out of the park. Everyone's stepped up the game. I love all 3. The prints make it extra wonderful and loved them all equally. Great fun.
I love when the three of you make the same idea but everything looks different and fantastic. Thank you greetings from Switzerland
Love Triple Play day! And that is a great block to play around with! Happy quilting! 🧵
Jenny and Natalie you never fail to amaze!
Love triple play - quilting is my M H therapy 🙏🙏🙏
Jenny, we m u St have been in the same line when quilting brains were handed out!
Brilliant! These Triple Play videos might be my favorite series you do. Three super experienced delightful ladies talking through the process - I have learned SO much from your Triple Play side conversations! I'm a baby quilter and find it so reassuring that there are so many ways to accomplish similar tasks. Triple Play helps me shush that inner voice that says I'm doing it "wrong."
Traditional quilt blocks are also totally new to me, I love that I have learned so much about both classic designs AND how to mix them up. Churn Dash is now officially on my list to try. Y'all are amazing!
Your archive of videos is a treasure trove thank you for sharing all this expertise for free!! ❤️❤️
I'm new to quilting, and I love seeing you ladies sew. It's such a calming and creative artfofm, and the results are so beautiful!
I always look forward to the triple play. It shows such creativity and how 1 block and be made so differently.
I love all your quilts. And I don't miss your videos, speziell not your triple plays. They make my Friday mornings
If not for my “happy place” sewing room I wouldn’t have made it it through the lockdown! Love your triple plays and the way you all work together
Natalie your hair color and style is absolutely beautiful. I actually have an appointment to get highlights done now! You’ve inspired me to quilt and fix myself up! 🤣
I absolutely loved this triple play video. Each and everyone's quilts are so beautiful. It is so amazing how each one of you ladies see something different with basically the same pattern to start with.
I love this new pattern for an old block. Can't wait to try these!
Hens and Chicks is a cute name!
Awesome quilts ladies
I am in love with Natalie's design!!! It is awesome. I've not been a diehard fan of yellow and black but WOW that aqua just does something cool and exciting. I want to make one too.
I just read the article about healing through quilting. I love what you have done. I use quilting as therapy and the need for expression and creativity.
I love each of these quilts. I look forward to the Triple Play to see how each of you shows your own take on a project.
Your creativity never disappoints!!!
My first quilt used the churn dash pattern which I loved. I absolutely love each one of your quilts and look forward to making them for my family!! Thank you so much for sharing your creativity with us! You all are a blessing to so many!♥️
Natalie’s the Winner THIS Week!!!! I LOVE all the ideas TBH.
Triple Play is a favorite of mine I love how you three ladies work ( & sew) together as a team!!!
Love them all!
Loved Jenny's second quilt, and think it would be so interesting to see Misty's quilt inverted like that too. The colossal is fab as you can see it would come together so quickly. 🇬🇧
Awesome Ladies! Thanks!
Another fantastic Triple Play! I think I may have to play hookie tomorrow to try one of these. Oh now to decide on which one to make…have a most tremendously terrific weekend MSQC crew. You guys are just the bomb digity. 🤗🤗🤗
Natalie, you always find an interesting unique new expression that is modern and fresh.
well my gosh!! I was here tonight on RUclips to find my old stand by the Churn Dash video I have used several times over 6 years, I love doing them as they are easy and FAST. Now I'm all fishmeckled deciding which one I will make, I am using a pack of French General 10" squares so they all would work. Thanks y'all for a fun Triple Play, and more so since I have three more ideas to make more fun, beautiful, churn dash quilts
Loved them all…wow!💕🇦🇺
Jenny you are right, this Churn Dash was a homerun! Thank you ladies for all the great ideas.
All three were great today. I would love to see inside Natalie’s head. It must be an amazing space. Misty, I’d love to make your quilt but don’t know if I have the patience. Jenny, yours is so colorful and clever.
Beautiful quilts, I want Misty and Natalie to come quilt with me. I will do the cutting and they will sew and iron. :) So joyful!! (and Natalie's hand sneaking in and holding the ruler with you)
Oh my gosh, these are so beautiful! I love the Triple Play and look forward to it each month. So much imagination and style, the fabrics are perfect.
Love your quilt’s ladies! Your creative minds are just so inspiring to many! Thank you so very much for these beauties!!!
Thank you loved watching the three of you. Nice way to start the day. Peaceful.

My favourite block I love the triple play tutorial
I love the quilts! Triple play is my favorite!
I'm new to quilting and sewing so I appreciate these videos where you have such different takes. For a newbie like me, I'm excited about Natalie's since it could be an easy way to try a larger project. Thanks so much!
