Ed Wu This is why i’m getting a radar detector for my bike. I don’t like going grandma speed. These people in the video are stupid acting like 60 is fast... smh
Not gunna lie, From NJ. Average speed I drive is probably 75-80 on a major highway and 55-60 on anything thats not local. :-/ when you gotta go you gotta go
They should pass a new law that allows skilled drivers to go faster than non skilled. Have people pass an advanced driving course. Most of the straight highways / freeways in the States and the cars we have now are designed to be 90mph roads + .
Who honestly goes speed limit? You have to be an actual grandma to do that, 60mph is slow, everybody I ever see goes atleast 75. Plus the #1 reason for deaths would be drinking and driving/texting and driving... not speeding.
The slow drivers normally go 75 on roads like the turnpike. Left lane is usually going 85-95. Roads where people went highest over he limit where 55 zones tells you how bullshit that is.
SafeSpeeder very true although setting a speed limit that high is dangerous because most cars can’t reach that speed creating huge differentials. I agree that speed limit can be greatly increased though, heck I was driving down i195 yesterday which is probably one of the worst condition interstates in nj(2 lanes only lots of curves and woods) at about 80-85 which is 15-20 over the limit. I’ll admit that was me being a little riskier but it could easily have a 70-75 mph limit which is perfectly safe there. The nj turnpike is 2 times as safe as that road. A limit below 75 is ridiculously low, I do about 75-85 when being cautious and 90+ when I wanna be a bit riskier. It could easily have a limit of 100 but probably shouldn’t be above 80 for now
Michael Miller that’s just anecdotal evidence my car has 240000+ miles and can do 90 easily but most old cars will be shaky at that speed. It depends on how you drive the car, what types of miles you have on it, the actual car itself and a lot of other things. Plus when the road is shared with trucks that’s just gonna create massive speed differentials even setting a limit of 90. And mother major reason speed limits over 80 are kind of impractical is fuel consumption. Once you start paying for fuel it’s ridiculous. All cars will get worse mileage once you get over like 55-65, some may handle it better, but even sports cars have worse mileage at 90 than 55. It’s physics
Michael Miller it only really goes 90+ on the weekend or when congestion is light, at least in the car lane. In the truck lane, maybe yeh some of the cars in the left lane go that fast. But also most of those cars are newer cars, nj has a lot of upper middle class and rich towns especially central jersey. Maybe some old cars will be doing 90 but most are a little shaky at that speed
Michael Miller i have not seen this. Maybe thee are some open patches put you usually always get stuck in a group doing 70-75 eventually. Also *light* here would be very heavy anywhere else the only reason it even moves is because it’s 6 lanes across. And it is not light anytime near rush hour
Speed limits need to be abolished everywhere except residential neighborhoods. People already drive as fast as they want to begin with and the sky hasn't fallen, get over it.
Driving 80-90mph on highways like the gsp or route 80 is completely safe. The limits are arbitrary and too low. I average about 83 and I have no speeding tickets and do not plan to slow down.
You don't need to go that fast. 70mph is a sweet spot and plenty fast for 65mph speed limits. You can only go so fast until you have to stomp on your brakes at an exit or to find your usual accident and slowdowns.
After exit 10 on the turnpike I don’t care how fast I’m going but before that I keep it at about 75 80 If I can because there’s so much stop and go traffic
I drove the Jersey turnpike for the first time just after Christmas and had my cc set at ten miles over and continuously got passed like I was sitting still. This was at 2 am. They had to be going well over 100 mph! I’m from NC and was a nervous wreck by the time I got through there!
I remember as a kid my parents would drive at exactly 75 in the right lane on the turnpike and we would be the slowest on the road. When I drive it I regularly get passed going 85-90.
What this tells me is the speed limits are either arbitrary or too low. Look at the type roadways surveyed. The NJ Turnpike. 6 lanes in each direction. a 3-3 configuration. In the section from Exit 9 to the Southern terminus at Exit 1, The roadway was designed to handle average speed of 75 MPH. The garden State Parkway. Again the configuration is either 2-3 or 3-3 in each direction. IN the more heavily traveled areas where the roadway has many curves with shorter Radii, the speeds in this video were too high. The recommendation is more speed enforcement. The AC Expressway. Prior to Nixon's executive order mandating the 55 MPH national speed limit, the AC Expy speed limit was 70 MPH. I am a professional driver. In my travels because of the nature of my setup, I drive slower because I am operating at a speed which I get the optimum fuel economy. Now in my experience. the drivers that create the major hazards are not just those who are over the posted limit only. It is those drivers which operate too fast for the traffic flow, road conditions . Darting from lane to lane. Failure to use proper turn signals. Following too closely. Unsafe lane changes. Use of electronic devices is an epidemic. Yep, I look as they whip by. If I were the number one Police officer in the NJ State Police, i would issue an edict that I wanted to see at least 50% of the citations written where the above described activities were the result. For police officers and police brass, speeding citations are low hanging fruit. These citations do not improve safety. Drivers are going to operate on highways at speeds with which they fee comfortable. The police should be targeting ALL violations. SO the police officers have to work a little harder. The only way to change habits of drivers who operate poorly is to punish them for doing so.
Fun fact, drivers in NJ are driving the same speed as drivers in Texas on roads with similar design. The only difference is Texas posts the correct speed limit, while NJ ignores the highway engineers and posts them ridiculously low.
80-85 in a 65 isnt speed demon. Thats the average speed in the passing lane in light traffic. I set my cruise control between 78-83 in 65 zones (depending on time/location traffic- 3am on an empty highway would be 83) and I've never received a citation with cruise control on. Often dont see the speed traps late at night and usually theyre looking for the outliers.. truckers going 80+ and drunk people going 100
Wow What a Surprise I did not know that lol How about one on how they only look for and Issue Tickets to out of State Drivers and not New Jersey Drivers for Speeding and Driving Recklessly Because the out of State Drivers won't come back to Fight a Ticket . A Great Money maker for a Bankrupt State .
Modern cars handle so well and are so sound inside that 65 feels like you're doing 25mph. But non the less speed limits need to be increased on the larger open highways with minimal entrances and exits like the parkway and turnpike because lets face it, the majority drive over 65 because 65 is just too slow for modern vehicles and the long commute lifestyles. 75mph is no challenge for modern vehicles, increase the speed limit to at least 75 on open highways. Why does Germany have no speed limit on the autobahn? If they can drive to any speed that they want and it works for them obviously 65mph is very slow when like everybody drives faster than 65... The parts of the Autobahn that do have speed limits its like 81mph anyway. 65 is just too damned slow and even the police know it that's why most everyone gets away with it.
85 is the new 65
Ed Wu This is why i’m getting a radar detector for my bike. I don’t like going grandma speed. These people in the video are stupid acting like 60 is fast... smh
lose your drivers license, speeder
You guys are like NARCs for speeders. Way to go letting the cops know just where to target. I bet you two were hall monitors.
Want to cause an accident, do the speed limit.
Lucky I didn't pass them lol when traveling on I-95 the 95 stands for the speed limit ;)
@SafeSpeeder next go 95 mph on the turnpike
@SafeSpeeder so you are safe. I seriously have concerns of your safety you must be from Staten Island, or Brooklyn, land of the idiots
go find something else to do I would like to follow you too around and watch your law Abiding lives
When i was on 295 two months ago, I was doing around 85 to 90 anyway. Driving fast is normal in jersey.
Not gunna lie, From NJ. Average speed I drive is probably 75-80 on a major highway and 55-60 on anything thats not local. :-/ when you gotta go you gotta go
I drive 80-90 on I-95 almost everyday and never been caught so far
Michael Miller Same here. Never got caught; as long as your safe and aware of what your doing, anything is possible.
They should pass a new law that allows skilled drivers to go faster than non skilled. Have people pass an advanced driving course. Most of the straight highways / freeways in the States and the cars we have now are designed to be 90mph roads + .
Try California. You'll get run off the road if you're doing less than 80.
Obviously some speed limits need to be raised.
Who honestly goes speed limit? You have to be an actual grandma to do that, 60mph is slow, everybody I ever see goes atleast 75. Plus the #1 reason for deaths would be drinking and driving/texting and driving... not speeding.

hope you guys realise the numbers are higher, most drivers would see you and think you are cops and slow down
If the NJ turnpike limit was set like how European limits are set, the speed limit would probably be 80.
Everyone speeds, especially cops. They're the biggest speeders because no one can stop them
That's because even the cops know the speed limit is too low.
So proud jersey ☺️
lol if i was in this i definitely wouldn't of been caught speeding, only because my radar would of picked you up wayyyyy down the street haha
Speed limit:65
New Jerseyans : False.The limit doesn't exist.
After exit 10 on the turnpike I don’t care how fast I’m going but before that I keep it at about 75 80 If I can because there’s so much stop and go traffic

Of course they're speeding. It's New Jersey!
Stop snitching!
NJ turnpike speed limit is: don’t get in anyone’s way
We don't care what the media thinks. Thanks for helping. /s

I live in jersey I don't speed cause the cops r dangerous as hell around here
Brian Weiss No cop in jersey will pull you over for speeding they going faster than you.
Why not install speed cameras on the overhead EZ-Pass gantries?
Dumb
That’s what the rest of the country drives at. Sensationalist.
That road on the bridge was atrocious
Sicklerville. Guilty!
Parkway always a FAST highway.. Gotta Get to the SHORE...at times id hook up with a pack of cars clip along near 90...
They are all just looking for a left turn.

@SafeSpeeder just because you are in 6th or 7th grade doesn't mean you can make fun of 2nd graders little kid.
@SafeSpeeder I doubt you have elementary school education young man
