- I walk from Cork City to the Michael Collins Ambush site in Beal na Blath, West Cork. Michael Collins was shot and killed by Anti treaty soldiers on 22 August 1922 at this exact spot in Beal na Blath. After visiting the Michael Collins Ambush site, I continue walking south toward Timoleague on Day 19 of Walking Ireland. Make sure to like & subscribe to see more videos of the walk...

Traveled through that area last year from the US... ( being from Irish stock and Grandparents who suffered much ) and was amazed at the pain and sorrow we felt just from being there, brought tears, we felt surrounded by the solemn beauty and of pain of days not so long ago..........Travel on, well done
European invaders stole North America from the natives, just as the Scots did in Ulster.
And what was it all for? So we could hand our country to the EU and be told what to do by the likes of Ursula Von Der Leyen and the WEF n vulture fund companies. I hope our present and previous governments of recent years are proud of their handwork undoing what the 1916 men did.
💯 correct, we have allowed our country to be taken over by the EU, we have shamed our forebears! But the struggle is just beginning again!
Substantially correct.
And we continue to hand over control this week with the immigrant pack with Europe! Not all European countries did this hand over control of their borders!
"Lie low to the wall,
And let the bitter weather pass,"
It seems unending alas
Today, So rest your weary legs Awhile in the long grass,
In the wall shelter,
Chewing the cud
And watching late walkers pass,
Who stop to peer in
At the warm circle of life
On the other side of the wall.😊
Lovely. Thank you !
Nice
Great information about Collin's ambush. I wonder what they would have found out about it with today's technology. You're an honest man Derek, fair play to you.
Cheers Christina 🙏
Hello Derrick from America!! Been enjoying your hiking videos and especially this one, since Michael is a distant cousin of my family. My wife and I visited the ambush site back in 2018 when we visited Ireland. I’ll be turning 70 this October, but I would love to hike the Ireland Way!
Keep on trucking lad! Best wishes, Charlie Collins
Lovely to hear this and thank you for letting me know 🙏
Although I recommend not hiking the Ireland way as there is a lot of road and large sections which feel unrewarding (my opinion). Hike the E8 coast to coast instead 😊
Very tragic part of history. Thanks for including it in the video, Derek.
My pleasure
Great video Derek. Real tribute to all of our past generations.
Ģreat history. Great charm and very natural down to earth.❤
Great bit of history. I wonder what those heroes would think of how Ireland has been sold out. The place is unrecognisable and in a bad way.
Great videos with beautiful views and interesting stories.❤
I love our small part of the globe , but unfortunately its nearly gone, because of globalisation. Our history and culture will be forgotten about soon enough and thats heartbreaking.
Beautiful episode..thanks Derek👍🙏
Loved the history and the way you told it. Tragic but wow. My grandmothers family were Irish my father Scottish so this all interests me greatly. Thank you for sharing your wonderful videos.
lovely and sad walk
Keep it up derek always a pleasure to watch your videos
My pleasure and thank you for watching 🙏
Cheers Derek
Beautiful Derek. Thank you for sharing this.
I am catching the outdoors big from you it's just what I need it's helpful in every way possible thanks Derek
The old fella told us a few stories about his older brothers who were quite active in West Cork in those days. Your covering some Ks there Derrick 👌🥾
Very interesting and yes I did quite a few km over these two days !
And also love the music.
Hello you! 😉 Oh! Derek, your video's just get better and better. What a beautiful and interesting place your travelling through. Such a shame it had and still has unrest. No one really wants to live with such insecurity. Daniel 7:13, 14 tells us that there will be a Kingdom that will be everlasting and not brought to ruin, it will serve all people and nationality and it will be ruled by someone like a son of man. I look forward to that time and pray for it because then God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven. When you were standing in the ruins of the church it made me think of all those souls who perhaps stood there before you, all gone, all forgotten and the scripture at James 4:14. We are only here for a little while, like a mist in the scheme of things yet we have so much to learn and do. It's hard to believe that there was such a famine that so many suffered and died in such a lush, green land, I wonder how it happened to such an extent! I am glad you did not cheat and compromise yourself Derek. Hopefully the weather will be kinder to you and I also hope you go and enjoy the music night, I think that would be good for you too, maybe a Guinness and a song because you enjoy a wee chant and so do we. 😉 👏💜👏
I often think of these things too (in the old ruins. Thank you 🙏
Good bit of history
Especially as an Englishman
Went off and read more about it. The political narratives peddled by the media have shaped our views on history for a long time ...the Internet has allowed us to see and read and thus understand history in a much better detail
good walk and story
He also lived on my road in West London
It is nice to see young people still interested in how Michael Collins died . Still no nearer the truth a 100 & two years on .
Rest in peace . Honour & Respect . Lest we forget .
Some believe that Collins was actually killed by a traitor / friendly fire ….
Sad times when irish men fought each other. Thanks Derek.nobody will know but i will know lol😂
The last word Derick keep it lit 🇮🇪
Enjoyed this. Ireland 's troubled history.
Derek, is there any chance you could do a short video on how, where etc you edit, process, upload your videos
Sorry it’s not something I wish to spend time doing. Thousands of videos online dedicated to this topic. All the best 🙏
Hi Dererk Only just started watching your videos mate. Find them interesting and inspirational. Well done ! I'm from Liverpool and was hiking in Wicklow a few weeks ago. What are you up to now ? Regards Alan
The Liverpool fans caused the 97 deaths.

Democracy and the Irish state were under attack.
Collins gave the irregulars plenty of time and with plenty of appeals to stand down. He did nothing for 6 months.
The Irregulars' activity only intensified with the assassination of Dail members, destruction and attacks on roads, railways and bridges.
Irish men flocked to join the Irish army on request from Collins ,with the intention of putting a stop to the destruction of the peace, which they did, ruthlessly.
In 1916, when a ricochet bullet hit connelly in the ankle, Michael Collins helped to carry him back inside the gpo.
Luckily for us free state sheep his name was not signed on the proclamation.
Or we would still be taking the "bloodstained saxon shilling"
I was in School in Clonakilty (west cork) when the movie came out 1996. I remember it being a huge deal because of the Oscar buzz at the time. I think relatives of his came to visit the school to talk about the movie.

I also remember when it came out. That would have been a fascinating time to be in Clonakilty!!
