KINSALE, COUNTY CORK, surely Ireland's most beautiful town, or at the very least its most colourful!

I've visited there numerous times in the 1970s, 80s & 90s.It's a lovely village within 40 minutes of Cork city and it's left me with some great memories. Incidentally, I bought several beautiful Kinsale smocks over the decades

I can’t comment on how similar they are as I’ve not been to Newport RI. However you may know we have a beautiful Newport in County Mayo, which I made a separate film about. Thanks for watching.

My daughter and I were there in late June, along with her choir, for a concert they performed at St Multose Church of Ireland. Between their rehearsal and performance, we had a couple hours to wander around, as well as have dinner at the Hide Tide restaurant that I saw briefly in your footage. The fish and chips were delicious. I hope to be back someday to wander a bit longer, see some of the historical sites and not have to rush through the town missing many good things along the way.
Also of note is the Bailey's ice cream that I am still remembering with great fondness at JESK of Kinsale. I'd go back to visit for that alone.

@@nakedireland Thanks for the note. It was a quick 10 days touring between Dublin, Cork, Killarney, and Limerick. Too short to take it all in, but long enough to change my life with the beauty and history of Ireland and the welcome from the Irish people we met. I have a good bit of Irish heritage, have EU citizenship as well my native US citizenship, and have three more kids and a husband who haven't been to Europe before. It's a top priority to return to Ireland at some point.

I'm looking at visiting really Irish places, like the west and I want to try and avoid the sort of towns I can see in the UK, even if in Ireland they do appear much cleaner and generally nicer on youtube!

Went to Kinsale on my Honeymoon back in 1979. It didn't have the profusion of gastro-pubs or cafes back then but it was still a lovely town to wander around and have a few pints in. I've been back several times since and love the look of the place. The colourful facades are great, even if one or two are a bit jarring. I recommend Alihies in West Cork if you want to explore how inventive Irish towns are with regards to colourful facades.

Yes, you pronounced Mumbles correctly 👍. What a pretty town Kinsale is, I can’t say I recognised any of it but it was 22 years ago I was there. We had driven down from Kenmare around the coast and ended our day, I think, at a hotel near Cork airport as leaving the next day. I know we stopped at Kinsale but it wouldn’t have been for long, an hour at the most. Damn you had me drooling in Dinos! 🤤
Charles fort is modelled at The West Cork Model Railway Village in Clonakilty, a place you should visit one day, its very good. Yes, please do make a video on the forts, that would be of great interest.

Beautiful wee Town! I was there once in '81. The Battle of Kinsale finished up at Glengarriff, were under the leadership of O'Sullivan Bere, they remnants of the Irish forces walked to Donegal. All in the middle of winter, 1500 people, and only 60 survived. The event is known as O'SULLIVANS MARCH. What shocked me, was that there is no marker of the tragedy in the Glen, were something like 1000 camp followers were put to the sword by the victorious Elisabethen forces. Such is Irish History.

Did I mention it was in the dead of winter, and all along the trail , the shattered army was attacked by rival Gaelic Clans as well as the Forces of The Crown? That the Spanish army hold up in Kinsale refused to come out and fight with the Irish who came to save them from the British sege? So picture the screen, a frozen waste, bogs and Ireland still had wolves and thick forest. Got to get Liam involved😎

Maybe it's the cold, misty morning, the flat colour palette and the melancholy music but you've not really nailed the town there. I like your videos and your style. Your text is good too (though it's Hugh Roe O'Donnell rather than Rory) but come again in summer, pop your head into a few shops and cafés, have a chat with a history guide or food tour guide, watch the boats in the harbour as you stroll Scilly Walk, drink a pint and enjoy the craic sitting on the seawall at The Bulman, then walk on up to Charles Fort. Best wishes and best of luck to you.
