Very pleased to see you back in the air Adam. 5 months is a long time to be out of the air, you had new aircraft and a new airfield to contend with. Looked fine to me and 5 landings in a sortie is good going. Thanks a lot for the shout out and we will try to arrange a meet up at some point this summer!
Love your new video Adam.. great camera angles.. even i was nervous for you, lol... but a great little circuit, I have my first flight since Feb 2020 on July 8th.. I cant wait.. Stay safe.. Happy Flying.
Looked fine to me, must be great to be back in the air. Saw BG for sale a little while back while I was looking for something to fly so I can get airborne again. Keep the video coming they much appreciated Malcolm
Very very jealous haha! Although I'm only just past the 3 month mark since my last aerial venture. It still hurts - a lot! Brave to post a video after being out of practice, a lot of respect from me for that. I'm getting worried about skill fade too. Hopefully we'll both be back on our A-game soon. Many thanks for this little taste of being back in the air :)
Wasn’t that bad Adam 👍 I’m always mindful of little or nil wind because the rate of descent on final is higher and I guess the high circuit height didn’t help. When I went up last month for the first time since March I did some stalls and general handling first to get familiar with the aircraft again (and to relax!) before feeling ready to attempt some circuits at the end of the flight. Thanks for sharing! Happy flying from Oxford ✈️
Lovely video Adam! Was cool to see Tim got a shout out 😃 have you ever thought of doing a collaborative video together? Really enjoyed today’s video! Love the use of different angles and the commentary was great 😊.
@@PrivatePilotFlightVlogs I was nervous for my first post-lockdown flight, and to be honest I always get a bit nervous when I go flying but I think it's the body and mind's way of keeping you sharp. My instructor always told me that an unstable approach is normally a bad landing, so I think the learning point for your video is that we should all keep a nice tight control on the approach and be prepared to chuck it away if we don't like it. Easier said on a keyboard than at the controls though.
@@jamesclarke2544 you are right. Should have been a go-around. Going back for some more circuit practice this week to get my approaches back on track before I head off to the smaller strips.
@@PrivatePilotFlightVlogs good idea. I'm based at Turweston so not too far from Oxford. Not felt the need to land there so far (expensive) but I might check out the night rating opportunities there this winter if we're allowed.
Great video and I look forward to seeing more! Very ballsy opening yourself up to criticism but that's the best way to learn. This might have already been said but it seems you were quite wide on downwind, which reduces your chances of gliding back to the runway in case of an engine failure. Also, am I right in saying that you need to request start up at Oxford after listening to the ATIS? It's been a while so it could have changed...
Thank you much appreciated. The majority of comments have been really useful, like yours. I was v wide, but got my bearings in the next! I did request start but cut it out. I believe on the grass you don’t need to. Thank you for taking time to comment 👍👍
After 5 months, that’s seemed pretty good!!! I see a lot of people holding on the runway with the parking break, I was always taught to hold it on the toes, anyone else do this???
Brave man asking for comments!! I can not say anthing negative as I do most of them myself :-) Just one point, don't panic about busting the MATZ it is just an area of high military activity and being just in or just out is not a deadly sin, it is not class D better to fly the aircraft than panic about the Nav (remember Aviate, Navigate, Communicate).
It’s been great getting all sorts of messages! Eye opener and hopefully will make me a better pilot! I’m nervous busting airspace since I had a warning by the CAA!
@@PrivatePilotFlightVlogs I can understand that but have a look at the Air Law text book and you will see it is not a no fly or requireing clearance to fly in area.
Suprised no one has mentioned so far you were outside VFE, albeit mostly only marginally for most of base and final! On a practical note. You might as well set two stages of flap on base and land with it ready, instead of having to mess with flap on the rollout. Also, it looks like she has an LED landing light. For those with, I just leave it on all the time. Doesn’t burn out. Draw much power and helps to be seen by others.
Appreciate your comment Michael. I hadn’t noticed, I will watch it back this morning. I had set 2 stages of flap on base and then dumped them on the roll out. Totally agree with your point about landing light it is LED, and wasn’t on for takeoff. Keeping it on for the whole circuit makes sense. 👍👍
Not too bad. Downwind seemed quite far from runway environment to make an emergency landing should you lose power. I'm sure you got the approach speed nailed in the other cicuits. Carry on, fly safe!
Yes this was a v wide circuit. The next we’re tighter but couldn’t nail my speeds. Need some generally handling practice. Thank you for your comment 👍👍
@@PrivatePilotFlightVlogs"Need some generally handling practice" after 5 months break, I would have engaged an instructor and practised a forced landing (or two) and unusual attitude handling at least.
Good footage. Flare more and it will stop you landing with so much speed and keep the oleo healthier, never a bad thing to hear the stall warner at the end of the flare. Threshold speed in a PA28 is 65kt in the POH and unless you're landing through a substantial wind gradient! Watch VFE, there is a maximum speed for a reason!
Hi, am concerned that your approach speed target with 2 stages of flap was you say 80kt. My PA28 161, target approach speed with 2 stages of flap is 65kt??? Glad to see you back in the skies :):)
I did 36 hours in a Cessna 172 in the US but that was 22 years ago. Only restarted flying lessons 2 months ago and am currently in the circuit and fly a PA-28. I find the aircraft slightly more difficult to handle. My issue, here in Liverpool, is not the circuit or the landing. It's quite busy so you have to be on your toes and I find it difficult to do the pre-landing checklist and pay attention to comms. So, obviously I'm no expert but you did ask me to point out a few things. 1. You didn't talk your viewers through the pre-landing checklist. BTW, just to point out my flaws. I did 7 touch and goes today and for the first 2, I forgot the prelanding checklist too! 2. I was under the impression you turn you carb heat off half-way though finals because you may need to go-around. Great video though. It's important to see people with far more experience than me making small errors.
Great to watch as I’m close to getting back in the air solo with my Cherokee 140. Is there a reason you didn’t use the 3rd stage of flap on final? I aim for 80kts on base, 70kts on final and 65kts on short final and over threshold. I put 10 degrees down on late downwind, 25 on base and 40 on final. I learn a lot watching what others are doing.
at risk of being an armchair critic (my own flying can be messy sometimes) but you did ask people to comment: - looks like you had issues managing the speed (a bit high on base didnt help with that) and you were well over Vfe as others have mentioned (and it looks like were until short final). - couldnt make out the switch you flicked on base (was it the landing light or fuel pump?) - either way both of those should just be ON in the circuit IMO. - couldnt be sure but looks like you left the CARB HEAT on all the way down until you reapplied power - should be off once the runway is assured / 200ft. other than that, you got back in the air and you got back home safely...so :-)
Chris Evans all comments welcomed. 👍 yeah speed was all over the place. The landing light wasn’t on until I turned final I need to remember to switch it on takeoff. You are right about the carb heat, I forgot to set cold, you are the only one to notice that!
@@PrivatePilotFlightVlogs re landing light - for me it goes on when entering the active rw and stays on (LED) until leaving the runway at the other end. certainly whenever the fuel pump is on, at least... you want conspicuity when departing as well as arriving (and all of the stuff inbetween, IMO)
Interested to know how you were able to hire being out of currency without going up with an instructor first? Just being picky 3:31 was turning cross wind.
Well, this landing wasn't too bad, was it? Almost every first landing after so much down time isn't pretty, but you'll normally pickup the skills again fast? As long as you can use the A/C after the landing, all is OK? 😉

New plane also? I can’t wait to go up especially at this time of year. Thanks for sharing Adam.
New(ish) Cherokee at the club, The weather is getting better after this week!
At 3:30 you said you were " turning base now and climbing to 1,400 ft". You were actually on crosswind.
