    The right decision no need to put yourself in conflict ;-) , I would question the radio work why change to London info Oxford have one of the newest radars in the country they can see all the way to Silverstone no problem , and Silverstone is a joining point for Turweston so maybe if your in that area a quick call on the Turweston freq just to let people know you are there . The day you stop learning in this game is the day they put you in a box :-) nice filming and well flown

      Thanks a Chris. What you don’t see is some sightseeing in different areas so that’s why I switched. I didn’t know how far the radar covered tbh but good to know. Thanks for watching and your msg. 👍

    Always best to go around if you're unsure - that's what I do. I'm surprised the controller didn't mention the traffic even as a " radio " ATC - Good spot by the passenger !! 😂

    Admittedly not having my license (yet) and not flown in some time, I would have made the same decision to escape back to the dead-side and avoid a potential conflict. It's always best to start over than try to salvage the situation. That's where mistakes and oversights start and could cause an unexpected issue because you're now "winging" it. Safe decision in my view...and a very nice landing. 👍

    Absolutely the right decision mate. I would ask did the other aircraft call earlier as I didn’t hear it? Some would argue that they should have given way to circuit traffic but I wouldn’t have tried to decided the in the air and would have done the same as you. Great vids - it’s good to share experiences.

    • @PrivatePilotFlightVlogs

      I didn’t hear an earlier call to be honest. I’m not sure if they had joined on a long final as they looked v low. Appreciate your message. I worry about sharing my experiences (and mistakes!) but that’s how I learn. Glad you enjoy watching though, I put my heart and soul into editing!

    • @thomasmcbane8758

      Mate - I went for some circuits tonight......and the exact thing happened! Traffic joining from the overhead didn’t see me on downwind and.......’cut’ me up. They were quite close. Don’t remember hearing any calls but that doesn’t mean they didn’t. Anyway, decided quickly to climb to the overhead and start again. The benefit of sharing experiences - keep up the videos 💁🏻‍♂️

    Correct decision in my view to escape to the dead side of the circuit and avoid potential conflict. I am based at Turweston, always a challenging going to an unfamiliar airfield but can offer a few local tips if you’re coming back and wanted them.

      @@PrivatePilotFlightVlogs if they're on 09, I was taught to fly left base down the disused railway line, aiming towards the A43 roundabout with the petrol station on the right, turn final before reaching the petrol station so you avoid the newly built houses in Brackley, then aim to be wings level aligned with the runway once over the solar farm. Target height is 500ft at the petrol station.

    Lovely views! A wonderful flight. Ive never figured why Piper's only have one door though - LOL!
    I thought you had right of way (but I'm sat on a cosy sofa at home) on base, to final, but no point in being right and an incident occurs. Therefore your only choice was deadside and to climb. Im happy to be corrected on that though.
    I flew in and out of Oxford and Enstone, back in the day, Oxford was called Kiddlington back then (still very well spoken - and those of us in overalls and cow muck on our shoes were looked down upon). We took a C150B on a very cold day back to Thruxton. At Thruxton, aged 14 I was allowed to drive a Morris Marina van, as was my mate, at full chat around the race circuit there, fun times!

    Right decision - I agree with James below about setting up for final on 09 - Looks like the other guy was not following the prescribed approach fr 09 and may have come over Brackley - or at least pretty close

    • @PrivatePilotFlightVlogs
      @PrivatePilotFlightVlogs  4 года назад

      Thanks Terry. Yeah looked like the aircraft was in Brackley. To be fair I took a longer downwind leg on the second approach.

    Great video Adam..
    You made the correct decision for sure.. to me, I'm under the impression the other aircraft had no idea you were there.. i thought as Aviation law says that if your in the circuit you have priority.. so therefore the other aircraft should have made a deviation for you.. if i heard correct he announced to ATC that he was downwind when in the video it seemed he was on Final.
    But definitly you made the best decision.. thats good Airmanship.

    • @PrivatePilotFlightVlogs
      @PrivatePilotFlightVlogs  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Simon. The aircraft announced he was on final after I told the A/G radio I was climbing back up. The downwind call was for an aircraft behind me.

    It is hard to say from a video and not being familiar with the area. Was it one airplane that was on final to the same runway as you were landing on? Did that other plane call out his position at any other time? Another option would have been a right turn to extend your base, but again I can't tell how far away the other airplane was, how fast it was going etc. There is never anything wrong with starting over if things don't feel right, but this isn't always the best option if the airport is busy.

    Was the other plane on a straight in final? Or was he in the circuit/pattern?
    I guess it depends on your spacing. If you thought you’d be too close, or were much faster than the other plane, you probably did the right thing.
    Had you been on downwind, you could have just extended before turning base to allow better separation. But since you were on base, you took the conservative approach, which usually is the best approach.

    • @PrivatePilotFlightVlogs
      @PrivatePilotFlightVlogs  4 года назад

      Looking back at the video he was on final (but hadn’t called it on the radio until I spotted him.) It was my first time there so I’m not sure if my circuit was tight, as they were doing touch and go’s.

  • @randomnav
    @randomnav 4 года назад +1

    You don't have to contact tower or gnd and then tell them what you want. Just say it. You had a direct cross wind yet you did not correct for it while taxiing and especially the take off run. The time to set you DG is not after you are cleared for takeoff, it should have been done during the taxi. I guess you didn't do your taxi checklist.

    • @PrivatePilotFlightVlogs
      @PrivatePilotFlightVlogs  4 года назад

      Eagle Eyed Bob! Indeed well spotted I totally forgot the cross wind at Oxford so when we took off I was blown sideways! I’m still a bit rusty, that was my second flight having a 5 month break. I’ve got in the habit of setting heading indicator on the runway for some reason.
