Game Awards 1999: Respectful award ceremony with right words and few jokes Game Awards 2023: *WRAP IT UP, WE NEED TO SHOW VIEWERS MORE ADS AND ENTERTAIN THEM* The grass was greener back then...
@@setsubou-studio I know, but still I don't fully understand why so many people go for Geoff Keighley's Game Awards nowadays. Literally more than 118 million people watching Game Awards vs less than 100k for DICE or GDC vs less than a million for Golden Joystick. Especially after notorious "Copyright Strike Awards".
Game awards, like ALL award shows, have always sucked ass. They just have a different flavor of shit. You apparently like aged shit more than fresh shit. I cannot even begin to fathom why anyone watches award shows of any kind. They're all pretentious circle jerks.
@nik12937 awards are usually given for success and eminence. Sometimes they can serve as a good recommendation, especially if you want some more authoritative opinion or if people around have too narrow recommendations. Plus, if you care about developers - those are the places where you can support them. p.s. youtube hid your comment
Well, at least, MM VI and HOMM II are directly connected (MM VI serves as a sequel as much as Dark Messiah for HOMM V). Unlike that Konan theme from US commercial for Miyamoto
I love how the music they picked for Ocarina of Time in this show is not even from the game, but rather Basil Poledouris' "Riddle of Steel" from "Conan the Barbarian," which was used in the commercials for the game.
Spike Game Awards (the same Jeff Keighley) started on Spike TV in 2002/2003. Spike TV? That channel started as The Nashville Network in the 80s and showed country music and Nascar until 2000 (lmao) then it became The National Network and started showing RAW is WAR and MadTV etc. Then it became "The First Network for Men"... today, this channel is called... the Paramount Network! 😂
Never realized how big of a year 1999 was for gaming jesus
Every year used to be like that before the wokeists infiltrated.
Who's the Gaming Jesus? I didn't see him in the video

All these games came out prior to 1999
This ceremony honored games that came out the previous year. 1998 WAS an insane year for gaming.

Different game awards, this one is now known as DICE awards

For those curious, the DMG in DMG Pokemon is a code for the gameboy itself (dot-matrix game)
>Might and Magic VI
>2 seconds of correct footage
>Rest of the footage is from a different game of that franchise

1999 was stacked
I didn’t know Joel was streaming back in 1999
I always thought of the Game Awards as more of a "recent" award show. Didn't know it got its start in the 90s!
this is actually the d.i.c.e. awards, and the game awards stemmed from the spike game awards

@@aceman0000099 oh THAT's what happened to SpikeTV! I never knew they were rolled into Paramount Network.
Miyamoto is too adorable, his humbleness is so wholesome
miyamoto when fangame
@accelerationquanta5816
Im sorry for your brain damage
because yeah miyamoto takes down every fangame himself by hand
Felt like a glance into Nintendo's self-image back then compared to now
They should bring back the funny old techno music in the game awards
They should play modern hard techno, 18+ bpm UNCE UNCE ✊
4:58 Man, what a shiny head! Props to him!
He can use whatever he used to shine that on his trophy hopefully.
The Shiggy Meemo sweep 😤😤👌
happy holidays mr highlight man ur the best

I was born in 1999
So seeing Banjo Kazooie at the 1999 game awards is kind of amazing
F U F I F A. Still relevant, somefuckinghow.
What a STACKED year
Holy shit, I did *NOT* recognize David Gallagher, his voice sounds so different compared to when he voiced Riku in Kingdom Hearts just 2 years later!
Puberty hit like a mofo
Wait, Riku was Richie Rich?
Hope you had a good christmas mr joel shorts man :)
ONE OH EIGHTY SNOWBOARDING 😂😂
One Thousand and Eighty Snowboarding
One-Zero-Eight-Zero Snowboarding for the Nintendo 64
6:27 That footage isn't from Links LS '99 - it is from Links Extreme.
Anyone know which Arcade Madness Joel played that one Link's game in? All I remember is a hand caressing a golf ball and Joel saying "Oh bayBEE!"
Seriously, what does the DMG mean that's always in the Pokemon stuff?
pretty sure it means "dot matrix game"
The original GameBoy had the product code DMG-01
Is that FUCKING CHRIS ROBERTS FROM STAR CITIZEN AND WING COMMANDER
EFF EYE EFFF AY 😂😂😂 WHO IS THAT MAN LMAOO
My new personal hero, that's who
worth watching the longer version... its actually good compared to the shitty new one
Hold up now you gotta change that title boy this is 1998.
I can tell cause if this was 99 Sonic Adventure would have swept the fuckin board
