My biggest fear with a yoke is that when doing a hand over turn in a high stress situation, I am not going to be able to find it. With a wheel, it has the same shape regardless of its angle.
i’m pretty certain the reason they moved the horn location was airbag safety. if you’re honking the horn in a normal car and the airbag goes off because of an impact, that hand is going to go right into your face and could dislocate your wrist elbow or shoulder or break a few bones in your arm and face. where as the new horn location if the air bag deploys your arm will go outwards and not destroy your face.
@@squaredawayeveryday also supposedly when you cover the right part of the wheel where the horn button is it does honk the horn instead of trying to find the button in an emergency. but i don’t know for certain i haven’t placed my order for a plaid yet
This I can confirm is true, although it seems to be two mini audible honks as opposed to being able long press if you hold your palm down. Not a bad work around, just not as reflex centric for people coming from a standard horn. Not a deal breaker either way, to me though, the wheel just feels superior in terms of vehicle control.
Ahhh, if that's the case then every single car on the road should be redesigned. Highly doubt THAT'S the reason they moved the horn. Good thought though.
I will not get a car that don’t have the horn in the middle. Under emergency situations I press the center. I had another car years ago that did not have it in the middle and I had very close calls 2 times with notifying a close car to stop. Very frightening.
My gripe is much more the lack of stalks for the turn signals and gear selector. The yoke or round is not a bit deal. I got used to the yoke immediately but the stalks is constantly making me think before engaging in an action.
The stalks for turn signals is such a simple and yet effective design. In every single car you don’t need to even think about it and it just works every time. It’s puzzling why someone want to replace it with a stupid design that does not work.
The yoke is waaay better than a round steering wheel. You just have to know that you need to lower it to the max. Because of its shape, it will still allow you to get in and out of the car easily even if you are very tall. When driving, you can now rest your forearms on your thighs while holding the bottom corners of the yoke and be in total control unlike a round wheel. Also, when using FSD, you can now easily tap the corner of the yoke with your knee when getting the nag if you don’t want to keep your hands on it. 😉
Tesla needs to put the horn back in the middle on the Round or Yoke Steve wheel. If your doing a full turn with the yoke & you need to beep that horn & it’s by your lap, your in trouble. 🤷🏽 Yoke may look nice but it could be dangerous for some

Tesla must make better interior, but not idiots innovations like yoke. If it continue in this way - china producers win
Agreed, the Yoke is BS

Never heard this before, but makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the info

I guess it only make sense if full auto driving is the norm. I prefer the wheel any day any time. And with stalks.
Can you go from steering wheel to yoke?
Would it void the warranty to switch the steering wheel out of a Model Y??
No
It only makes sense if the X was stear-by-wire
Yoke looks better
