Good idea, though difficult to obtain where I live. Oddly, air assist will take care of flame, but I supposed if you were very paranoid, a CO2 assist would be great!
I'm looking for a hobby laser and Xtool is on the list but so is CO2. I know they deal with different materials and that's part of the decision that I need to settle on... but for now the tech behind them is just as interesting so you channel is fun! . Xtool (and all the other laser companies) have been giving lasers to so many RUclipsr's the market is saturated with opinions... but you are far more knowledgeable about the tech behind them. Do you think the Diode lasers are going to have the same life as the CO2 laser tubes?
So what were the other companies, and what made the xTool win out for you? Because I've a feeling something in the range of a NEJE 3 something would put out more oomph for fewer coins. Am I wrong in that regard?
Overall, it was quality and solidness of construction that won out. Things like flame detection, limit switches and steel rails and rollers, plus native support for Lightburn. In the end it's all about choice. I can't comment on the NEJE 3 specifically as I have not used one.
Looks nice:D But I wouldn't trust the laser safety glasses that got send with the laser engraver, they look kinda sketchy to me. Maybe you could test them using an lpm?
I'm actually pretty taken with it. I want to engrave panels for electronics and Laser projects. The glasses appear to be effective, however I am not sure they would withstand an intra-beam exposure for 10 sec. That said, under sensible normal conditions, that should not occur. Sure, why not test. I have some others as well, and could make it into a reasonable video.
Hi Les, greetings from San Francisco, and thanks for another great video. I have been dithering about buy one of these for the last month and you've pushed me over the hump. I'll be using your link when I;m through writing this. A quick question, if you have a moment. This will be my first laser cutter and there will be occasionally others around while cutting. Can you recommend any specific safety glasses I can buy for others who may be around while the machine is on? And, are the glasses the manufacturer provided acquit, or do you recommend something better. Thanks
Thanks, and thanks for your support. It is an awesome machine! Regarding safety glasses, you will require glasses with an OD of 5+ at at the Laser wavelength of 455nm. The ones included have not been tested however they appear to be adequate, if a little dark. I you have seen any of my other videos, you will know I am a big fan of working safely, but for that, prepare to spend money! Since you are located in the USA, I would recommend this well known supplier: www.kenteklaserstore.com/kol-5303-laser-safety-glasses $110 USD for certified eye-wear is an utter bargain!
If you're working with flammable materials, perhaps a chip of dry ice would be enough to dissuade flames...

Great looking piece of kit...cheers.
Thanks! It's very cool!
Cool machine. Wish they made one that could cut aluminum as well.
Me too. A fiber laser would do the job but they are $$$!
Brilliant, mine arrives next week 😀

@@LesLaboratoryYeah, why not. That would be interesting.
One better connect purging gas to the head or the fog and debris will "coat" the lens pretty fast.
Already on it, pump and hose ordered yesterday 😀
Hi Les we have just set up and started using D1 but are having problems setting up perimeter of the work space area for a large area, can you help ???
What software are you using, and what exactly are you attempting to do?
