How to Use UreCoat™ Matting Powder

This video demonstrates how to use Smooth-On UreCoat Matting Powder to get a matte finish on pieces coated with UreCoat flexible urethane coating. A matte finish can be added by brush or sprayed using an HVLP spray gun.

This is a more durable surface as it chemically bonds to the previous layer.

I discovered recently this fantastic material, i use it like final coat into my foam sword replicas for LARP. I want use the matte product but i have two questions: Is necessary a previous non-mate urecoat layer? That mate sprayed layer its as strong as a non-mated brush coat? I have a question? Is this mixture with the Matte powder added/ brushed on after the surface is already coated with a shiny gloss Urecoat?

You are correct. The Matte powder is added while the material is still tacky. You want to do it before it cures.

Hi Gabriel, some of our aquarium design customers have used UreCoat with matting powder in an aquarium scenario, but the piece must be washed thoroughly to remove any excess powder before installation. Keep in mind that if you submerge a glossy piece in an aquarium, it no longer appears glossy.
