- How to caulk hardie plank lap siding “butt joints” exterior repaints. Caulking hardie plank butt joints pre-2012 involved applying a high-quality exterior caulk to the seams where the ends of the hardie plank siding boards meet. This caulking helps to seal out moisture and prevent water from seeping behind the siding, which can lead to rot and other damage. It is important to use a caulk that is specifically designed for exterior use and is compatible with hardie plank siding. We like to use Sherwin Williams Loxon H1 polyurethane caulking. The caulk should be applied generously and smoothed out to create a tight seal. It is recommended to inspect and re-caulk any joints that show signs of wear or cracking to maintain the integrity of the siding.

Great and informative video, explaining why hardi-plank re-painting needs to be caulked (fractured seams in the existing caulking), and how to do it right! Thanks for the video!
No problem! Thanks for watching I have an awesome video coming out this Friday or Saturday and I’m testing 10 of the most popular caulkings on the market. Hope you check it out 🤘😎🤘
Soapy water will help smooth the poly caulk without sticking to your fingers ,esp smoothing the hard edge
Great tip 👍🏻

Is there an updated video showing the caulk once it's painted? I am preparing to do mine, and i would like to see what the final result of this method looks like
Great idea I’ll bust out a shirt with before during and after 👌🏻
