- Ensuring that you have the right gear on race day can make the difference between a great event and a miserable experience. I've been asked to share with people my strategies for packing for an ultra distance run. On this event, the Bigfoot 200, www.bigfoot200.com/ a 200 mile point to point race in the Cascade Mountain terrain in Washington State, this is what I carried. This was summer, so the night temperature wasn't too cold - and weather looked pretty favorable, so I didn't worry too much about precipitation. Also, it is worth noting that there were aid stations every 15 miles or so on the course (give or take 5 miles). At some of these stations, I also was able to dip into drop bags that I had prepared.

Every video you publish is interesting, highly entertaining, and keeps me motivated to continue with my own physical challenges, goals, and objectives. I look forward to your next race film. You are always very well prepared.
I've missed your videos. A million ultra related videos watched and this is the first one that acknowledged the possibility of chafing and what one carries to preempt such an occurrence. Hopefully there are videos of the event itself.
Fantastic video Kerry! Can't wait to see more videos of your races!
Nice to see you back on youtube! Keep the videos coming, even if its short runs.
Every video gets me excited for my first ultra coming soon. Hopefully one day I will run into you at one of these
Thanks for the information!!
my first ultra on friday, your video was really helpful to decide what to take with me
how did it go?
First off - great vids!! It's nice to learn some tips mid race and this planning guide is a great way to get off on the right foot....I replaced gels with nakd brand bars.... They're date and/or cashew based and easy to chew mid run, never affected my stomach during 26.2-50 milers -- may be worth a shot -- look forward to more races in 2016/17
Which UD vest is that? Have you looked at the new ones that came out? Love the videos btw...keep them up. Your Bigfoot 200 video put it on my bucket list.
You are a great person
Great video +fulltiltward, just what i was looking for. Big LIKE for your channel. Are you packing something in case you twist your ankle ? What do you do if something like that happens in a middle of run ?
What kind of gps spotting tracker is that? Is it for your friends/family/crew so they can see where you are?
Nice to see what an ultra runner carries and its weight
Have you ever considered coming to Germany and doing the Zugspitz Ultratrail (102km)? It's the Ultra in my backyard. Would make for a pretty cool video!
That looks like a very cool course, indeed. This is one I'd consider. My schedule is usually pretty packed, so may be tough to fit into the calendar. Would be a very good video project, I think.
I would like to see you publish more videos on your typical training activities. What do you do every week to stay in shape? Do you have routes you run around your home? Do you have gym routines you like to follow to support your physical fitness? Do you participate in (a) local running club(s)? Do you ever participate in shorter events?
+seaturtle7777 I do this mainly for fun. It give me a reason to train and the motivation to do longer days when I have an event looming in the future. My gym time is erratic, but I do like training with people doing partner acrobatics and hand balancing. And sometimes I do shorter events, but not as often. I have a lot of people in the Vancouver BC area who I run with. Having people to run with makes it much easier for me. Although, the stuff I do is usually outside the scope of what you'd find at a local running club. Unless you are talking about Club Fat Ass, which is a whole different animal. clubfatass.com/
+Corporate Explorer Training & Team Building Your outdoor videos are very inspiring to me. They have become part of my own fitness training (much shorter distances) for the last several months. I see your ultra running, the values you personally bring to ultra running, and the videos you capture of your experiences to be an experiential art form. I wonder if there are other people who would agree, and who, like me, would be glad to support your adventures on a platform such as www.patreon.com?
+seaturtle7777 That is very kind of you to share. Appreciate the good feedback. And I do rather agree that it is a bit of an art form doing these. Always looking to improve methods if I can. As far as Patreon goes, I have not considered it. Maybe something to think about, but also perhaps a bit weird for me to suggest.
+seaturtle7777 I see your point. Well, we will continue to look "forWard" (pun intended) to more outstanding videos, and continue to cheer your many remarkable accomplishments.
I'm going to do my first 50k ultra on my 16th birthday
Is the pack an ultimate direction sj 2.0??? I'm in the market for a new pack.
Forgot what model it is exactly. Did a pretty good job, although it is showing some significant wear and deterioration now. Can't imagine why....
What kind of equipment do you use to shoot this great videos?
+Reiulf H A small Sony Action Camera for most of this.
Why is Lance not a hero ?
