Hi Elisabet
Great video I have been searching for this information to get me started on my kit list and how to pack it.
Thanks jc.
Thanks for the lovely comment John - We've passed it on to Elisabet!
Thank you Thank you Thank you.
Great video and thank you for sharing! It would have also been great to see where you put your water supply?
Hi Sander - check out this video on Fitting Your Marathon des Sables bag - bit.ly/2dOiCTY
Great info thanks . What about your water? Where have / would you put this ?
Hi John! On the WAA pack, you have a water bottle holder on each shoulder strap - you can put a bottle on the side of the pack (will need an extended tube over your shoulder) and you can put a bottle on the front pack - no shortage of carrying points!
This is a great tutorial! After watching, I wondered how you manage rain, especially at night? Most of your gear seems sealed well enough, but the sleeping bag didn't seem to be packed in a dry bag like your down vest. Wet bags are the worst. Also, I didn't see any sort of tarp or bivvy sac to shield you from rain while exposed to the elements when sleeping at night.
Hello. The back-pack comes with its own rain cover (there are several after market options also available). We take a plastic carrier bag and line the base of the pack with it. This doubles as both a waterproof base when putting the pack down on wet ground and also can be used to put down clothing and sleeping bag in.
You make a good point about a tarp / bivvy, if torrential rain was forecast this would be part of the kit. However in most circumstances - the new breed of lightweight waterproof clothing is really practical as it packs down well.
Hope that helps!
What pillow is that please?
I'll try to find out and come back to you. It was a while ago now!
Hi Mike. It was the Exped Air Pillow. Hope that helps! 😃
What pack is that?
Hi Jonathan - good question! It's the WAA MdS backpack - bit.ly/2ejdCBP
RunUltra UK is it good for winter racing? Iv got a 66km race in February "my 1st ultra" and I'm have trouble picking a pack
There is no difference between a summer pack and a winter pack (unless you are looking for a waterproof pack). It's worth listing what your requirements are in terms of weight, capacity and features you are looking for and then find a specialist shop to try different kit on. Different bags can also suit different body shapes- so well worth trying them on for fit. In our opinion the WAA bag is a great bag in terms of design, features and build.. but try a range before committing.
How much does the whole thing weight ? Looks heavy.
Hey Johnny,, good question! The bag comes in at sub 7kgs - hope that helps!
Yikes ! That's light ! Thanks.
Oh, but another thing... no spare clothing ? :p
