Congrats on your award, that's awesome. I had a similar experience when I dinged a Bulova bezel and was told by every watchmaker and Bulova that I can't buy the bezel, only a whole new watch. Enjoyed your three categories of watches and I'd add a fourth, the shock and awe watch, which I experienced twice. That's when you're minding your own business but happen to walk by a watch case in a store and a watch stops you in your tracks. You know what happens next (one of them I wore every day for 20 years.)
The AI at Amazon is starting to learn my taste and my mother’s taste in watches. After I had placed an order for a Golden Hour watch for $25 the system immediately recommended a Lavender colored Timex Weekender Snoopy that was on sale for $35. I immediately canceled the purchase and bought the Snoopy instead. That was back in October of 2023 and she hasn’t stopped wearing it since. Back in November the system started recommending Timex to me. A Waterbury Chronograph popped up for $50 that I liked but wasn’t to sure about it. My sister who doesn’t care for watches told me to just get it because the price seemed reasonable so I did. It’s been my go to watch since then. I checked the price yesterday on Amazon and it was shipped and sold by them at $135. 😂 I got lucky on this one.
Damn!! You did get lucky!! And for sure, the algorithm predicts your thinking and taste. Sometimes I think phones hear our conversation and at time I think they even read our minds😬
I agree with everything, other than you defining Alipna as a micro brand. Alpina is a historic swiss watch brand dating back over a hundred years and currently owned by Citizen.
Thanks, the reason I refer to it as a microbrand is because they have a small set up and are not a popular brand that secondary companies would produce parts for those watches. I would not consider them a major brand or a medium size brand.

What I do in this situation to not piss people off is I ask them first if the item they want to repair holds any sentimental value to them. Depending on their answer is how I reply.
Yes I do, honestly I don't have to many 22mm straps. My 22mm watches are either mostly seiko divers or flieger watch watches. This being a dress style watch with 22mm lugs complicates things for me. All of my good dress high quality straps are either 18mm or 20mm straps. So I but what I had on that watch
It’s always cool to have a story associated with a watch, or a memory of a loved one. 😊
Yea! They have the real value. Monetary value is good for resale purposes. But the real value is in the life memories that we get to experience!
