Jabin king of Canaan, reigning in Hazor, oppressed for 20 years while Deborah, a prophetess from Ephraim was a secular judge at that time. The Land rested 40 years (Judg. 5/31) The song of Deborah (Judges 5) mentions the whole Israel has secured the ancestral territories of Ephraim, Benjamin, Machir (west Manasseh), Zebulun, Issachar, Reuben, Gilead (east Manasseh), Dan, Asher, & Naphtali (Judges 5/14-18) in the battle of the Israelites under Deborah and Barak. Yahwist tradition was already formed in the northern part of the land of Canaan at the day of Joshua far ahead of the settling of the foreign Judahites in the southern part of the land of Canaan.
We can use wise people who came before us. We don’t think they were inspired but with the mentality of todays world teaching us to cancel history “there is only today” which is Marxist. We are poorer for it and have to fall into the same false teachings that have plagued us through history. A well rounded renewed mind is something God loves. Ignorance is of the devil. Peace🙏
The Bible is sufficient, but God most assuredly used our church forefathers such as the Puritans and Reformers to proclaim His word in speech and by pen.
Why does that bother you? I think we understand what he’s saying? Words can be beautiful Stuart. Is there a deeper issue here you are against? Be honest.

i'm not sure we need puritans to teach us or confirm us that the promise of God is Christ.
