So grateful to see Dr. Beeke on your show as well as for his reading recommendations, and what he said about "accountability partners" is precisely God's purpose in marriage and in the marriage of believers in a genuine church in which accountability, discipline, truth, love, and the mere mention of indwelling, PERSONAL sin are even PRESENT, the willingness to CONFRONT sin, which they are not in the navel-gazing OPC in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Thank you so much for sharing this conversation. For 17 months I’ve been on my knees pleading for God to help me kill the sin of anorexia. It’s been a battle on and off since my teen years. I’ve asked a sister in Christ to be my accountability partner, but it has been unfruitful. I shared with my pastor 8 months ago and asked for counsel. He has not followed up at all despite my husband bringing it to his attention. I cannot fight this alone. It grieves me that I comfort myself with food and punish myself by withholding it. I’d be grateful for prayers from anyone who reads this. Isolation and the feeling of being abandoned is increasing. I’m perplexed. My Christian community is small and people seem to not take sin seriously. The few people I’ve asked to be praying responded with statements that basically told me that this is something God put in my life as the thorn in my flesh and it will always be. I don’t want to fall into despair.

I'll be praying for you, sister in Christ. Hold on to your conviction that sin is a sin, and that any sin is to be treated as a big deal.
Do everything within your might, to fight the temptation to do it, when you fall, get back up, and think again of some ways how to fight or run away from sin.
You are not alone, God is with you, and that is the best thing anyone can ask for.
Stay strong, pray for it unceasingly. Soon, you will gain victory over it. 🙏

I am praying for you, sweet sister. I am so sorry that you are struggling with this. I have struggled with eating disorders in the past as well. Three things- would you and your husband possibly be open to finding a new church? It sounds like you guys may need to find a new one based on what you’ve shared. Secondly, have you sought a really excellent biblical counselor to help you work through these things? A lot of eating disorders are rooted in unprocessed trauma, pain, and grief. As you process through those things with someone who is well-trained, compassionate, and rooted in the Bible, I believe you will experience great healing. Lastly- it is so evident from your post that you know and love the Lord Jesus. He keeps you, He loves you profoundly, and He will never let you go. The evidence of the Holy Spirit in your life is so clear. He will pour out His grace on you, and His heart is to tenderly shepherd you through this. Also, have you read Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortlund? I 10/10 recommend it. I cannot express how tremendously that book has ministered to me as I feel like the more I walk with the Lord, the more I see my sin and am grieved by it. That book is so profoundly encouraging in terms of how God deals with us in our weakness and sin, and how He loves us through it.
Praying for you! I know it may sound odd, but let me know if you’d like to connect through social media or anything like that. I have so much empathy for what you’re going through, and so does the Lord Jesus! ❤️‍🩹

Honey it’s okay to go and get professional help. God created us mind body and soul. His common grace put doctors who understand the brain and our bodies to help us and it’s not a sin to seek intensive treatment that way. It doesn’t mean you think God isn’t enough. As someone who struggled with orher mental health disorders , one of the best things I did was stop feeling shame about wanting help and understanding that sometimes as Christian’s, the issue isn’t merely a sin one, it’s psychological. There’s SOO much grace for us in Christ , He’s so patient and is there to love us back into wholeness. Calvinist are not always the best in giving counsel in this regard. I second what the kind lady above said already !

This was a great interview with Dr. Beeke. I've been sharing the story about the cliff for years because it serves as a fantastic analogy. Another story I find meaningful is about a boy and his father walking in the snow while discussing what it means to follow Jesus.
In the first instance, the boy carefully watches each step he takes, resulting in a crooked path. In the second instance, he focuses on his father, and as a result, his footsteps form a straight line. Both these stories focuses on desire which this interview explains.

Here’s a tip, read a daily Proverb (Proverb 14 for the 14th day of the month)
Solomon makes a clear distinction of the Righteous and the Wicked, and also says that the Righteous are in Gods Favor and the Wicked are not. It’s an everyday reminder of how we should be if we’re of God and how we shouldn’t be. It pierces my heart everyday because I constantly see that I can still be like the Wicked though I’m redeemed… which drives me to prayer.
I hope this helps, God bless you all.

The best thing I found to killing indwelling sin is truly the power of the Holy Spirit. It is only through God's providence that he will use situations to remove things from our life. Focus on Christ as our Passover lamb. Get rid of leaven, and worry not.

    • @jane_7777

I agree, we cannot kill our sins on our own. Romans 8:9-13 talks about it.
"You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life[a] because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of[b] his Spirit who lives in you.
12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation-but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.:

One of the only issues I see with this video is that it's not all black and white, all sin is isn't black and white. Some people really need psychological help, either because of addictions or past trauma. This could be one of the ways it can help a person to live for God more and be holistically well.
I know the guy asked "biblically speaking" on how do we fight sin , but again it's not black and white.
Also I'm a person that cast out demons, I've been doing it for over 2 years with people I know, I know most Christians don't even believe that Christians can have demons, but they don't realize sometimes it's not a sin issue it's a demonic issue, you can continue Killing sin all you want but if there's a demon you have to cast it out in the name of Jesus Christ.
I have seen so many people set free from this, because the thing is you can discipline yourself all you want but if it's a demon in your flesh it needs to come out.

...Yes, "All Sin, and Always!" And that most Sin, all the time. Believe or not. But it is true. Yet, if most Christians try to Sinless; they will not do it. The reason is: The power of satan's tempts us; for Desirable, Awesome to Sins.
But, there IS a way, to Sin Less! And that: is to become closer to Jesus! now, You must Pray and Worship into Jesus OFTEN. And this comes from here...Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Matthew 22:38 This is the first and great commandment. Matthew 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Matthew 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Now, never worship over, our Bibles. But, worship ONLY of Jesus (if English). Whose name of God Almighty. So, IF any one, will follow those 4 verses; your Sins and/or even Abominable Sins; WILL be Sinless WOW!
Try it Johnny Ardvanis! And IF you do it as the above; it WILL happen. And this goes for ANY one. For, I am 92 yrs as a Christianity! And I was never Sinless. Even when I tried hard. But...
When the (Holy Spirit's soft) voice; urged me to do that. It was great and it did Work...In any case Brethren, Please Pray OFTEN and Praise Jesus OFTEN; for He is the ONLY true "God Almighty"; there will ever have been. And may Jesus bless you and yours always. AMEN!

Amazingly shallow. They never asked the question, Why is a particular temptation there in the first place? Jesus said, All sins come from a person's heart (mk 7:21). But instead of looking into a person's heart to find what specifically is causing a specific sin, these teachers teach how to terminate or mitigate sinful behavior. Which is in fact the exact approach the pharisees employed.

Love this advice, love this podcast, but it breaks my heart that pastor Beeke would mention laughing or speaking about their past in such a manner. Listen, Mr. beeke if you haven’t had a radical transformation with such a horrible past you might not understand peoples expression it’s not laughing. It’s actually maybe amazement and awe striking that such a holy God can give grace to such a rotten sinner. I’m not saying that is what I do I can just maybe understand that it to much to think of sometimes and when you are surrounded by conservatives, reform people with their blessed lives and growing up in Christian homes they just come off ungraciously. Sometimes people express themselves differently it’s not flippant but it’s awkwardness.
