Holy shit. It's insane to me that a 20 year old band who arguably had their peak around ten years ago are now not just making an amazing comeback, but some of their best music period. That's unheard of for me at least
What’s even more amazing is that the guy behind it all, Damon Albarn, has been been active since the early 90s and arguably had his peak in the mid-90s. But then he releases stuff this good and contemporary-sounding 25-30 years after? I swear, Damon is the gift that keeps on giving! Truly the David Bowie of our age.
To make a "comeback" implies they had an hiatus, to me - which was the fact with Damon's other bands, Blur and The Good, The Bad & The Queen, who released albums 12 years (or 16, with all members) and 11 years between respectively. (I get that you most likely mean that they are coming back with an amazing album after some lesser ones; more subjective though;)
song machine almost feels like humanz done right: consistent yet inconsitent style that's pretty much all features, but it has more of damon's vocals to counterbalance it all.
Matt And Stuff there definitely are plenty of tiny reactions online and I’ll watch those too but his channel is probably the only one with a giant following
I was kinda turned of by the eerie first half of the song. But after looking at the track list it makes so much more sense, considering how it will be the “intro track” for the album!
I have to say as someone who came to like the Gorillaz during the doldrum period during releases, and an animation fan, it's been really awesome to get new Gorillaz content but musically and animation wise. It feels like a very unique act that was a novelty back in the mid-2000s has proven once again it belongs with the greats. If Song Machine ever releases in some sort of album or compilation format i'm definitely going to cop it, it's been super chill and makes for get vibe music, this song being no exception.
Great track. Damon really knows how to stay relevant. His output is so consistent, both in quality and quantity. And Robert's voice is still exactly the same. A dream: Gorillaz collaborating with Thom Yorke in a track like this.
Nah, Thom is too full of himself to do that, also, Thoms music is too steril, gorillaz even on their weirdest have some sort of popping personality. Nothing wrong on any sides, but yeah. Would love to see a thundercat collab tho.
I can’t help but smile when the beat kicks in underneath Robert Smith’s chorus. It’s like the pieces finally come together after wondering where the song is going.
It’s kinda ironic how your biggest problem with Humanz is that it’s was over-featured but everything with this album has been amazing thus far and every song has a feature. I think this album is what Humanz could’ve been if done right!
I'm in love with the spaciness of this track and, while the 2D sections haven't really clicked with me, it's great to hear Robert Smith again! It's been a fucking while. Can't wait to hear the rest of what the song machine has to offer, and here's hoping it's as consistent as it's been.

Anthony, The Valley Of Pagans FT. Beck was released and leaked by fans early. If you wanna review idc but I think it's the best. Either way it's probably better to hear it with the album
First heard Gorillaz back in 05 when my dad was blasting Demon Days non stop for months. Couple years later started following them into Plastic Beach, was pretty nice. But in the 7 year absence I slowly found Gorillaz 01, G-sides, D-sides and The Fall, all hitting really different moods and all real good quality music. So for them to be hitting their stride once again 20 years later is very, very impressive.
hey Melon, I respect you for stating your own opinions through these years and even if people disagree with you, you’ve always kept your head up unsubscribed.
I’ve always believed that for Gorillaz’s tunes, you gotta hear them like 5 times to be sure If you really like them or not. In my case, usually the more I hear them the more I end up liking them.
I love everything on this project but i do feel like it doesn’t do the Gorillaz and their universe much justice since I don’t hear 2D to much and if i do he mostly gets outshined by the guest artists on the songs (except for Aries and Desole). I just feel like Noodle Russel and murdoc are just in the music videos to be there but not as part of the music like it used to be. Still love it tho i just miss something in it.
Hope to see you do more with Gorillaz Song Machine. Maybe you can look at the music videos as well, because the music and videos go well with each other. Hope to see more with them. Good luck, and keep listening to the music.
It’s truly amazing that Gorillaz have done such a comeback with these songs after their last two, by most people not so great, albums! They have gone back to their roots while refining their sound at the same time in such a masterful way!!
Only sides A and B are the standard album. C and D, where Peggy is, are deluxe edition. They have done an interesting cassette thing with each band member having a different, although relatively similar, tracklist. So there's a few different official physical options.
