I was the opposite at first. My initial reaction was, "Oh look, more obnoxious politics messages. We don't have enough of those in the world these days..." Then I heard Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett explain it in a livestream. They said it isn't a 'pro' one side or an 'anti' the other side message. It applies to both sides equally.
Their perspective is of two guys who aren't very plugged in or up to speed on things, and don't care to be either. They're both workaholics busy with careers they're passionate about, and families they love. When they do poke their heads up and out of their foxholes they've been bombarded by both sides going at each others' throats everyday, and they've grown tired of everyone they know seemingly pressuring them to choose a side. Their response to these people is:
"Be the change".
As in, do it yourself. Stop trying to get us involved. You don't need us. Stop begging us to choose sides. Stop wasting so much of your energy on smearing the opponent. Use that energy to "be the change" yourself if this shit really is that important to you. It isn't as important to us, so stop trying to convince us otherwise. It just ain't happening.
It's why the satellites are so prominent in this video (the moon is a satellite too, in case you didn't know). They're just two guys looking on from afar, detached from things and observing neutrally.
It's their way of saying, "Leave us the hell alone because we've got more fulfilling things to do!"
@@Britton_Thompson Well said, for the most part. But what about the scientific or simply survival facts that majority of people still tends to ignore? Yes, we should mind our business - in terms of preferences, aesthetics, the cultures we're interested in, the way we spend our time etc., but you can't ignore climat crisis, homophobia, the idiocy of meat consumption, corruption in politics and so on. Therefore - where the education failed or never actually existed - it's my and your duty to educate those who are not informed. Be the change to yourself and to your close ones - this is the only way this weird human race can survive and maybe reach happiness.
