- U.K. DJ and producer Mura Masa dropped his self-titled debut album last year, marking the culmination of several years of growing buzz and collaborations with high-profile artists. The album includes collaborations with A$AP Rocky, Charli XCX, Desiigner, and more, but it’s “What If I Go?,” Mura Masa’s collaboration with Irish singer-songwriter Bonzai, that has stuck with many fans. Since the album’s release last July, “What If I Go?” has earned over 42 million Spotify streams.

Such a humble guy ✨
Hi Majestic!
He’s saying BS, you’ll have a more guaranteed career & not be a one hit wonder if you produce to make a good song everytime. I’m Very dissapointed to hear him say that 1000 bad idea thing
He is talking about working through ideas. Most producers/writers have hundreds of song ideas on their drives and most get discarded because they just aren't good enough. That's just the reality of it. Why waste your time continuing working on something that you know isn't happening? No-one I know constantly shits gold. It's that classic thing wake up the next day and go "WTF was I thinking?". Just throw that shit away, and start again, It will bring you closer to your next incredible song.
RoyaltyProductionsDA Even deadmau5 said it's important to know when an idea isn't working and to ditch it and try something else. The more shitty ideas you get out your system the closer you get to making something good.
I knew you'd be here
finally a beat that isnt just like
1) so yeah i got a sample from a sample pack
2) i added some snares and hi hats and kicks
3) uh then i put the 808 you know you just gotta have that vibe n that swing
yeah thats it
lmao too accurate
dont forget the " uhhh i halfsped it using grossbeat"
Ahmed Javed lmao @bighead
u know what as long as it sounds nice i really could not care less about how the beat was made
Jonas Pelmeni facts
Mura one of the coolest and refreshing producers out there
I agree
flume too
Mura putting all these beatmakers to shame by actually explaining what he did musically rather than just putting some drums over a sample and getting lucky with a big rap feature.
Best episode in the series yet.
So weird seing my favourite song being deconstructed like this, after you've lived with it for so long and have so many memories associated with it.
Exactly.
Yeah it’s trippy af
finally, a talented producer who doesn't follow the formula every other type beat produce follows
G͟IG͟NG͟G͟NG͟EG͟G͟ G͟NG͟G͟HG͟G͟NG͟IG͟NG͟E I'm one of those guys lol.
Definitely refreshing. My ears are worn out from hearing the same basic loops with cut and paste drums
Agree
These producers are barely producing ... they even using midi hi hats now... shot is crazy out here lol
100% The majority of producers around are waveriders. Sure it's good to enjoy something, but all everyone does is replicate and change it up a little. It's harder and harder to find authentic styles sadly.
Finally another deconstructed with some depth.
And something that isn't just a rap beat too!
Even EDM could be "rap beat". What is rap beat anyway?
which other ones do you like? curious cause i don't watch a lot of these because they're so shallow...would love to see more like this one
Crad4DRC Chance the Rapper's Problem is pretty great
Ah yeah, I enjoyed that one as well! BrassTracks definitely came through with that one.
Oh finally some beat without using Grossbeat.
skykonradino loool
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You can use Gross Beat outside of FL
Thats the magic of ableton
Who cares
we need FLUME ASAPPPPP
flume's another level
@@sonicyusei You might have just won the internet.
foreallll
i dont know if ur still interested but he said he's seriously thinking about twitch streaming now. But he hasnt learned how to do it yet
@@sazza8631 no way! where did u hear this?
Nice to see an actual fucking dope producer explain how they created an entire song rather than just throw drums over a basic ass sample like most of these trap producers for all the mainstream shit.
I'd personally love to see more producers like Mura Masa on here... producers like Cashmere Cat, Flume, Clams Casino, Frank Dukes, araabmuzik, Hudson Mohawke x Lunice, Mr. Carmack, Sango, Monte Booker, Kaytranada etc.
Xeiku most of flumes songs are strait samples from samplephonics dont get it twisted
Vertex that is definitely true but by no means is Flume's music basic or sounds like anything else out there...
Vertex well skin is pretty much a SOPHIE ripoff but more mainstream sounding, so it does sound like other stuff out there, his first album was way more original
Skrillex maybe
I would literally die if flume did one of these
*Mura Masa ❤💥*
mura masa in my top 5 100%
pfft top 3 ugly
Mura Masa is amazing 🔥🔥🔥
The greatest series out there
A C I D For us producers
I've been waiting for a breakdown from him!
More of this plz 🔥🔥🔥
Thanx for bringing Mura masa
Yes!!!! Mura Masa is one of my favorites ever!!!
finally something top tier
IMAGINE having access to these files to hear those sounds isolated .... i'd do it all day
steel drum is one of the most underrated instruments. glad it was implemented.
U.K.'s vibe ..
They should do his whole album, I mean it’s a masterpiece 🔥
Finally someone with fresh original beats
Oh my god... this is a good video. It gives reassurance seeing that it’s not a super power to produce music like that he’s doing some of the most basic textbook stuff. So cool man, top 5 songs of all time for me.
this is definitely the most in depth episode
Get Cashmere Cat
henri crousteau my man...yes.
he too shy lol
YESSSSS. Would love to see him on Victoria's Veil or hell just even Love Incredible
for real never seen him talk b4
he isnt shy, he plays on biggest tour on earth with arianna, cmon its just shy image of him ;)
Alex is such an amazing guy man :) He should get much more praise for the way he mixes in so many different interesting and unusual sounds, altered vocal patterns and dialogues. What's more he actually understands the cultural meaning of all he does and incorporates instruments like the harp which you hear very rarely in today's music. I think what he does is unique and I can't wait for more hits to come! :D
This mans first song on SC was a jersey club track, im hyped to see where he's going after this
BRING ROMIL FROM BROCKHAMTPON :))))
Yaaaaaas. Such an producer. Same with Cashmere Cat and Mura Masa.
*I’ve always wanted to see how he made this all my life*
more people like this please! Finally a producer that knows how to program a synth and go into depth about his production process.
The first ten seconds made me feel like there's hope when producing my own music
3:55 sounds so damn good i love mura masa
finally something more advanced than putting gross beat on a sample with some generic 808 on top of it, as 80% of so called producers do in more than half of the videos on this channel, also notice how humble he is
i fucking love this man. So talented. Pushes the genre forward. One of the absolute best
Great breakdown. One of my favourite tracks ever!
such a talented dude, plus he takes inspiration from some of the coolest things. Genuine guy.
Goes to show that yeah you don't need music theory but it sure does give some backbone to what you make
One of the most talented producers out there!
I've started producing and he's one of my biggest inspirations. I just love his music and how he pairs some of the weirdest sounds to create such amazing songs. If I can sound 1/100th as good as him one day I'll be a happy woman lol.
I love these type of videos!
Mura Masa makes music for Apple commercials.
And I’m all for it.
I was really surprised when I heard this song for the first time, and I was captivated! Bonzai's presence also made me feel the strength of a woman, so I listened to this song for a long time! Muramasa has the same name as a famous Japanese sword, so as a Japanese person, I felt a sense of affinity with it.
GET SANGO ON HERE. MORE OF THIS KIND OF MUSIC ON DECONSTRUCTED PLS TY GENIUS
Travis Baguio sango.... “i went to brazil....”
I’d kill for more producers like Lido, Cashmere Cat, Hudson Mohawke, Sinjin Hawke, Rustie.... and less if any mumble rap producers
I’ve been waiting for this one. FINALLY!
crazy that when he first sent it out to people they thought the ending was wack, that's my favorite part of the song
FINALLY IVE BEEN WAITING. THANK U FOR THIS
He seems like a really nice person to hang out with 😅
I love this guy's music and personality
That vocal chord at 3:13 is amazing 🔥
Yessss. They finally put him on Genius. His last project was really good.
This was so unexpected!!!

Mateo Probst yuuuuppp
Yay! Thank you. this is my favorite song! so beautiful
Best act I've ever seen live, absolutely incredible at WHP last summer
Good to see a producer who actually puts time in rather than 3 element trap beats that take 10 min.
Glad to see a real producer on here
Finally some recognition to more creative and talented producers
This has to be my favorite episode of deconstructed
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really really not ready for this... much thanks Genius
Respect to Genius for showing love to a English producer🤟🏿
mura masa & bonzai ; my fav couple 🌹
For the record (no pun intended), the sound he "picked up at a vinyl fair in London" is called " DD_Vox_94_Lp2_Claps.wav" on Splice. It's from LoopMasters and it's specifically a production sound sample kit from 2016, nice try Mura Masa.
lmao
he probably just misremembered to be fair lmao
YESSSSSSSS, haven’t even watched the video and I already love it
*nonstop music, no ads*
THANK U FOR THIS GENIUS
*YES I LOVE THIS GUY*
More Mura Masa pls!
this just made me smile all of a sudden
I love these series, one of the greatest out
More of this plz
this track is London through and through
dat fade is to 🔥
Fuck yes dude this man is a wizard at his craft
Feel you boy. We need to make millions of ideas and just 1 will be good enough to put em out
Oh my gosh this is one of my favourite songs!
There are so many more great UK producers that deserve a video as well, like if you agree.... Producers like Steel Banglez, Maniac, Man Like AB, Sevaqk, Antiwave 🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊 UK needs more respect 💪
Finally a real “producer!” Not many of them featured on this series
absolute banger loved learning how it was made
really glad to see mura masa here but I would love to see the story of love$ick making
Nonstop music, no ads. So your music won't skip a beat. RUclips Red.
My favorite song by mura masa. This and “are u there”
This is one of my favourite songs ever. Idk it's just so catchy
One of the few episodes of a Producer that actually can produce !!! Not just 8o8, Kick drum, Snare, Grossbeat, some trappy Hihats and a stolen Sample.
This guy is a fucking genius.
I LOVE MURA MASA SO MUCHHHH AWWW❤️❤️❤️❤️
The Best breakdown yet
this song literally gives me so much euphoria every. single. time. what a man
I see that steel pan band everyday, that's so cool that it partly inspired Mura Masa
Underrated episode, underrated producer.
Yaz he he finally got some recognition
Большое спасибо за Mura Masa, он очень талантлив! И ещё не сказал, как он выстраивает такое крутое пространство в миксе!
Best one yettt!!!
