Tulok... You OK there buddy? I know you've pulled back on the building character videos, but I look forward to them. I do love your channel and will continue to support it in any way that I can.
He's only posting commissioned videos on this channel now. He's focusing more on elden ring.
@@dannyacevedo174And that really sucks for fans of Tulok who don't like Elden Ring. Been here since episode 10 and find ER dull.
@@Lrbearclaw same here on all accounts man. I still go back and watch a bunch of his builds and sub to his patreon though
@@Lrbearclaw same ngl. I recognize that he's not having as much fun with these but I just really don't care for elden ring
I love these videos as much as the next subscriber, but after how WotC came for content producers last year, I can definitely get why Tulok might want a break from talking about 5e 😢
"Where we make good videos."
Aw, come on, Tulok, I still think these are good videos. :(
I feel bad for the guy he's probably not having as much fun any more but I really like these vids. He's been with me for so many walks. I hope he's able to rebound 😢
Thank you for not trying to make it look like Fred thinks that Coolsville sucks
Fred thinks that Coolsville sucks?!
@@HailTheRegentNo, but that was a terrible plot thread in the live action Scooby Doo 2, Monsters Unleashed.
THIS GUY JUST SAID "FRED THINKS THAT COOLSVILLE SUCKS!"
Wait, don't record that!
So if I was a dm and a player rolled up Fred, I'd consider Landlords as either fiends (due to their innate evil and love of contracts) or undead (they suck the life from their tennants).
Either way paladins are getting their extra d8 when they smite a landlord.
"And I would have won as well, if it wasn't for that meddling d8!"
Things fiends and landlords have in common:
1. love contracts
2. evil
3. generally bad for anyone who has to interact with them
4. go (back) to hell when they die
@@Hyndsyte2020 i mean you don't got to convince me you're getting that extra d8 any way but this is a great argument for Landlords as Fiends.
Annoying people/things and their corresponding creature type:
HOA: Fiends or Fey, due to a tendency to act in accordance to unknown and often purposefully confusing rules and contracts to remain in power over lesser beings
CEOs: Undead Liches syphoning their employee's life to continue their own, perhaps warlocks to a higher council of magic (Investors)
AI 'art': Constructs or monstrosities, amalgamations of parts that should never come together with no sense of a bigger picture in their existence
Elon Musk: Ooze
@@danielcastillo591 no lies detected here and I want to play in this campaign
So I was actually toying with a gladiator build that used nets. And then this came up. Thank you kindly sir.
Tulok don’t burnout take a break and drink some lemonade or something
Honey Tulok posted a new building character, cancel our day plans
I just wanna say that I love your videos. They help me to understand the game and unique ways you can mix and match various abilities. Thank you for taking the time to put these out!
I bet that “Red Herring” reference is gonna go over so many people’s heads lmao, that alone just made my day 😂!
Fred is a canonically suboptimal himbo, he just talks a big game and has 20 Charisma so everyone loves him anyway 🤣🤣🤣. Thank you for making such witty and fun videos, can’t believe you’ve blown past 500 already 🤯!
I used to be obsessed with watching A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, the reference was much appreciated on this end!
@@snes90 6
Yeeeeeees, one of my favorite cartoons as a kid! My siblings and I still quote the Red Herring bit to this day 🤣
Scooby might be the mascot, but Fred is the heart that holds them together
He’s the big banana 🍌
Watching these videos helped me realized that 5e was much more open then I initially thought. I love these videos, they are always a bright point when I open youtube
Snare is good for the lack of concentration and duration of 8 hours.
The restrained creature is also only able to make the save on the spell at the end of their turn.
Still a good trap option but for outside of combat really.
People would freak out about this build? I certainly hope not. Fred is quite the man!
Love your videos and love Scooby Doo so this is great. I’m sure there are financial reasons but please don’t feel obliged to release vids. You’ve got a great, rewatchable back catalogue if people need their dose of Tulok. I’ve been in mentally very bad places before and I can’t imagine the pressure of doing stuff on RUclips while having a tough time
So Velma is probably an Inquisitive Rogue/Artificer Multiclass.
Thanks for that clip, Tulok. That was, I think, the last time I genuinely laughed at a Scooby-Doo thing;
_Traps Illustrated_
All we need is Velma and then we'll have all of Mystery Incorporated!
As long as Velma is from SD and not Velma, we're good here.
@@SodaPopBarbecuehe'd probably base her off of Mystery Incorporated, like Fred seemed to mostly be based on
Thief rouge fast hands could let you use bear traps, ball bearings, or other items as a bonus action! A 3 level dip could add a lot of spice.
How about some Darkwing Duck for D&D? Gas Gun, terror that flaps in the night, detective skills. C'mon Tulok... Let's get *dangerous*
Wow i usually really enjoy tulok videos and i like scooby doo. But then i watched this the day my grandma died. Welp guess I'll try again next time. Hang in there buddy. You're videos are very clever and entertaining usually.
dude, you've given us so much. if these vids are making you miserable, focus on the ones you like. we'll be there
These videos are great! I love whenever they pop up on my feed and they’ve helped me learn so much about D&D!
The landlord comment now makes me want to play a campaign in a suburb pitting the party against the HOA--the true worst thing ever
I've got a paranoid gnome artificer who would set up snare outside his door at night or around the camp because it lasts for a long time
You made me dream so much about D&D. It would be a lie if I said I would be as close to the game as I am if I never saw your videos, Tulok. Thank you. Take care, because so many think the same.
A D&D build on a Monday? Oh this is gonna futz with my sense of time
4:51- I had him pegged as a cavalier fighter with the mystery machine as his mount.
Always glad to see your content!
Hey person, I am grateful you make these videos. I enjoy them. Thank you.
Nice to see you using a sponsor again. :)
Definitely not a character i imagined getting built, but im certainly not complaining. Ive recently gotten really into building characters from fiction like you do and its a fun time, though i dont know nearly as much as you do, but its a fun way to keep my brain moving
I think Zeus from Record Of Ragnarok would be an interesting build. I tried a few iterations (settled on 14 levels in Path Of The Giant Barbarian and 6 levels in Cobalt Soul Monk) but couldnt quite get everything i wanted in while staying on brand, so seeing what someone more experienced could work with it.
Otherwise i went with Lu Bu from the same series who was much simpler (8 levels in Cavalier Fighter, 12 levels in Giant Barbarian)
Aside from all that, im still looking forward to any further content. Cant wait!
"Aint no way" is what came out my mouth when I saw this
It never would have even occurred to me to go this hard on nets, but this is kinda hilarious. Might take something like this for a spin.
sweet fred did not expect a damaging net cool
Yay, you're back!
My best choice is to use the “Investigator” background, with the “Mage Slayer” feat
In one of the old SD cartoons, Scooby is actually a descendant of an Annunaki (idk how to spell it), which are an otherworldly/divine race, which is actually the origin of that fanmade animation of an Evil Scooby God everyone here has probably watched.
That being said, the Find Steed Scooby is fitting, and so would be to make every member of the group a warlock whose patron is a magical being who thinks they are just an regular dog. Archfey seems fitting
Idea: Pact of the chain so they can have their familiar and they have no idea where their powers come from either. They got the pact by adopting the dog and feeding it snacks. The dog's love gives them all powers and its magic attracts monsters they investigate. Shaggy would be Warlock/Valor Bard (he is afraid but he still fights the monsters), Velma would be either Warlock/Artificer or Warlock/inquisitive Rogue, Daphne would be Warlock/Open hand Monk, while Fred would be warlock/battlemaster fighter with inspiring leader feat.
Anyone remember when Phil put out the Wobbuffet video? A neat concept, fun humor, no cries for help? Those were good times... 😢
Highlight of the week.
Not going to lie, when I saw this, I legit had a double take and just had to know.
Yo Tulok! Love your videos, both these and the Elden Ring ones. Subscribed to both.
It's not intuitive, and I thought this was how it worked for the longest time too, but thrown doesn't actually allow you to use Str, it just means the item's no longer in your hands after attacking. The reason darts can use Str is actually due to the Finesse property, which allows you to use either Str or Dex when attacking.
This was a fun video and best wishes to you.
Having been looking at a net character a couple nights ago, this kinda spooky, maybe a little kooky.
Oh this has been a hotly debated topic for a while in my friend group, Hell yeah!
Listen, there are a few problems with this build people will point out, namely that nets can't deal damage and only one can be thrown per action, but give him a break y'all he's building Fred
Also, the starting Ability Scores are off by one point. Normal point buy gives 27 points, this is using 28. It matters, because that single extra point now gives an extra +1 modifier to the ability it's put in, because the standard human gets an extra Ability Score Improvement point that you can't invest smartly.
At best you can boost the carrying capacity of a non-strength-build character a little. But not enough for a modifier boost.
they do if you smite with them!...though, that requires melee, and that'd be equivalent to whacking someone with your bow instead of using an arrow, and would be an improvised weapon attack, to the best of my knowledge.
Still pulling for Eglentine Price ( Bednobs and Broomsticks), Winifred Sanderson ( Hocus Pocus), Prince Voltron ( Flash Gordon), Septimus Pretorius ( Bride of Frankenstein), Mary Poppins, Councilor Troi (ST:tNG), Sir Dragonet, King Arthur's jester ( Iddyls of the King/ le Morte d'arthur), and the Reverend Doctor Syn ( The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh).
Awesome videos! I've used quite a few of them in my builds, appreciate it! Any chance on getting some Legend of the Seekers/Sword of Truth character builds?? Richard Cypher, Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander, Darken Rahl, or Kahlan Amnell!?
Trap build? Yes please!
That necker-chief?
My boy starting with 18 rizz
Faraway Paladin, William G. Maryblood would be a a fun watch. these are all fun.
New Tulok vid!!!
This one gets a thumbs up 100% for referencing Red Herring.
I'm not even 5 minutes in and I cannot stop laughing. I love your videos man, they always bring me such joy.
Someone tell jelloapocalypse that we got more Fred love!
This man taught me how to play 5e.
I would have skipped the Paladin levels and went for a more Dex focus.
But ensnaring strike with a net is fantastic for a trap build.
Love the video
And I wanna see a Build for velma and daphne
Daphne has a build already
Wasn't until 5 minutes after posting this common. Remember that he did a Daphne me build
Love this one!!!!!
Mastermind rogue guess before video starts. Won’t hurt if I’m wrong just seeing if I got the vibe right.
I might have made him a college of creation bard. Pretty hard to pass on the ranger spells becuase theyre perfectly on theme! I suppose you could get ensaring strike as an ancients paladin but idk.
Fun fact, I thought shaggy owned the mystery mobile
It's Monday?!?!
Love ya Phil
Nice build
Do you have the rest of the gang?
Tulock do you think it's possible you could do a madoka build?
I am real curious about dnd proffesor paradox build from ben 10, could u give it a shot?
YES
Now a Fred build is interesting because he’s a fighter rogue build.
Does thrown weapon fighting style work with nets regarding damage? The fighting style says to add 2 damage to the damage roll when you hit with a thrown weapon but the description for net does not mention rolling a damage die. Confounding it further is that DnDBeyond does list a net having 0 bludgeoning damage but my gut would be no damage roll so no additional 2 damage.
I know you've more or less got the whole Scooby - Foo crew done (if the school of monsters homebrew you made counts). If possible, try your hand at some of the classic Scooby - Doo villains. Like "the black knight", "the tar monster" or the worst villain of them all... "Scrappy - Doo".
I'm just imagining this build checking for traps in a dungeon and then critiquing their work.
How would you make the Cat in the Hat?
I'm thinking Artificer, maybe Rouge.
This was a fucking great and INSPIRING video Phil/Tulok/fellow librarian rpg enthusiast. You did an incredible job making a net and charisma nigh absurd build. It is a shame you lost your patience with this and prefer elden ring videos. Though elden ring is cool. Level 716 would be my commission there.
Even Dean Winchester turned around on his views on Fred.
Tulock do u think u could take a shot at making sukkuna? Just a genetically cool evil anime villain. A megumi sukkuna would be a cool suprise since regular sukkuna can be pretty basic
All we need is Velma and we'll get all of Mystery Inc.
But we can wait for years for that, it's alright.
"How could you not like Fred?"
Ask Mindy. Though I honestly don't think Mindy likes anyone.
Speaking of Fred throwing darts… how about How to play Ted Lasso in D&D?
Personally, I think the Meh Strength is a Pro. Fred's traps rarely work the first time, so inconsistency in netting is to character.
But at the same time this is the dude that decapitated a zombie with his bare hands in Zombie Island. Feels like either high strength or Unarmed Fighting would be appropriate. …Maybe he just rolled a couple of nat 20s that one time?
@@dustincompton992 Definitely the Nat 20 since Fred normally isn't trying to take someone's head off. Or the zombie's head have a low removal DC.
Isn't the problem with nets that they have a 5ft throw range and using a ranged weapon at that range gives you disadvantage on the attack roll in most cases?
Is the mustache new? It's a good look
You ok their bud ,you sound off ?
Definitely Rouge of some kinde
I haven't watched this video and I'm already calling it..there's gunna be some rogue levels for trap making isn't there?
So I love Tulok, some of my favorite build rules and such came from combos I hadn't thought of before, but i do find 1 problem with this build, and that is Nets. While not earthshattering, I think it's worth mentioning the following rule from the Net description in the PHB. page.148. Simply put, all it does it prevent you from throwing more than 1 net, again, not the end of the world, but an important detail.
Net.
A Large or smaller creature hit by a net is
restrained until it is freed. A net has no effect on
creatures that are formless, or creatures that are Huge
or larger. A creature can use its action to make a DC 10
Strength check, freeing itself or another creature within
its reach on a success. Dealing 5 slashing damage to the
net (AC 10) also frees the creature without harming it,
ending the effect and destroying the net.
->When you use an action, bonus action, or reaction
to attack with a net, you can make only one attack
regardless of the number of attacks you can
normally make.
Considering it does no normal damage, is limited by accuracy, target size, and range, and ileach is pretty much one use, recommend letting the player who wants to captain net just toss as many nets as they have and can.
@@zenebean oh absolutely, But I know these videos ( apart from flavor) try to be on the side of RAW as much as possible, so I just wanted to save someone disappointment.
I was so hoping they would stop at level 10 or 13
It's Monday right? Did I miss a schedule update or did I sleep through Monday?
What exactly makes him a himbo?
Phil, you good babe?
Point buy? Huh, nice change of pace from the standard array.
You should do spaceghost or birdman i legit think itd fucking cool to play as them
Please rest and relax my dude. Don't push yourself so much.
(Also please consider building Sung Jinwoo from Solo Leveling)
Tulok, sir, I hope you are doing well.
Idk if someone has mentioned or not, but you actually can't throw more than 1 net per action, bonus action, or reaction. A rule I tend to ignore as the DM. It seems unnecessary since it makes them fairly unusable.
Day one of asking for a Big Daddy and Little Sister build
Dale Gribble from King of the hill?
Was hoping his strength would be higher. He can bench press 220, after all.
Hate I remember exactly when Fred mentioned that he could. His strength is fine enough though, he's a normal guy in dnd
"Extra attack = 2 nets in one turn" does not work because net has "When you use an action, bonus action, or reaction to attack with a net, you can make only one attack regardless of the number of attacks you can normally make."
Otherwise loving the build. Nets are severely underrated in DnD
I'm still compelled to argue that all these buffs to thrown weapons shouldn't cause nets to do damage but it's way too funny that the rules don't actually say so, therefore they can.
Skarbrand?
Can I pleeeeaaaase get the Worm characters? Especially Taylor and Vicky. Please?
