P99 was my first pistol. I think it will always be my main sidearm. They got it just right with the P99. Perhaps some more aggressive grip texture would be welcomed, but even without that it fits me perfectly. It always seemed rather elusive to me until I actually got one. I rarely meet others who own P99s.
I love the trigger. I love the mag release. I love everything about this gun. Mine has been by my side since I could buy a pistol. I will probably replace it one day, but only to preserve my favorite pistol. I think it has earned that title.
A .22 LR revolver was the first pistol I ever fired as a teen, I've always liked firearms, but it wasn't until the riots of 2020 that my wife agreed to let me purchase any. I ended up buying a Stoeger autoloader 12 gauge shotgun, due to availability, etc. I didn't even know there was such a thing as autoloading shotguns at the time. I've watched a lot of Colion's videos, and this one probably hit my suggestions because I've been looking at the Walther .22 Magnum pistol.
Now I kinda want this one, before it is gone, and not available anymore. I've been very hesitant about buying any pistols, 1) because I have kids, and my wife has a lot of gun fear (despite being in the Army, go figure) and 2) because I live in Maryland, and Maryland is a quagmire of BS when it comes to gun laws, you have to take a safety course in order to buy a pistol, they maybe/probably keep track of that shit, you can't buy mags over 10 rds unless you go to PA, VA, or WVA, but you're allowed to own them.
Which is just dumb, all they are doing is encouraging people to travel to other states to buy mags, they ae losing tax revenue on this BS. Why, I don't know.
I had a PPX its closest brother. Loved it.
P99, P99, She's real fine my P99, my P99 🎶🎶
MY P99AS IS MY EDC , AND I'D NEVER LET IT GET AWAY!
Do you hit your mag release with your thumb or index?
It's kinda amazing how ahead of it's time this was when it came out. It's the first gun I can remember with interchangeable backstraps, it has a unique mag release that I actually thought would become the norm, the decocker was handy and clever, and it was way cooler looking than the other guns that were out at the time. Even S&W made and sold a version for a while, until they could engineer their M&P line. And it seems it had an influence on some of the Turkish makers.
Smith also had the sigma line before the SW99 that was a Glock clone they actually were sued by glock and lost and had to pay them like $30 for every sigma sold . So Smith was on a copycat streak in the 90s
@@RedEyePergo $30 for every one sold couldn't have been to much in the end. They didn't just copycat the SW99, they had an agreement with Walther. They worked out some deals, Walther making frames, S&W making slides. Different contours on the Smith version, same gun mechanically. S&W was also making the ppk/s.380 for Walther at the time, and doing some work distributing Walther.
The fact that they created and shipped the magazines over before the firearm was even finished to get around the "high" capacity magazine ban was just brilliant.
@@sjhoff yeah I thought Walther bought out Smith and Wesson or Vice versa
My Sar St9 (Turkish made) looks strikingly similar to the p99 in almost every way.
The P 99 is and will forever be immortalized thru the Canik TP9 series, which have become beast contenders in the polymer striker-fire pistol market.
You beat me to it but I concur.
Canik Tp9 was my 1st striker fired handgun, it sold me on polymer pistols. I gave it to my grandson when he turned 21. He loves it.
I'm pretty sure Canik flat out not only admits it's P99 inspired but is proud of it. We all sit on the edge of our seats waiting for a revolver to 1911 or all steal to polymer type quantum leap in the industry but I think what's going on in the market is even cooler. Companies like Canik, Taurus, RIA, Walther, S&W with the M&P line, etc. to me are executing an even harder innovation strategy. They're trying to squeeze as many premium features as possible into the $300-$700 price point as they possibly can. What's come out especially in past 3 or 4 years was only available at much higher prices before. I admire the super high end pistols like CZ, Stacatto, etc. but very few people are going to spend that kind of money. Now the market is wide open to new firearm owners that won't have to settle for a bad experience, in fact they'll get an awesome gun for the money with optics ready, great triggers, quality sights, custom feeling grips, good accuracy, high capacity, as concealable as they want, the list goes on for just under or even way under $700.
Thanks for the info on the Canik TP9. Didn't know that.
I was never able to find a Walther P99 for sale, but when I happened upon a Canik TP9V1, I fell in love with it!!!
My Canik TP9V1 will probably always be my favorite CCW.
I bought a P99 AS several years ago to use in my duties as an armed Security Officer, and then an Armored Car Service operator. I didn't (and still don't) like Glock, but once I got my hands on a P99 I KNEW it was the pistol I was going to love to carry. I wasn't wrong! This gun is amazing!! The trigger did take a little getting used to, but that curve flattened out quickly. The paddle style mag release is (to me) more intuitive than the button style on my 1911's. Though I am sad to see it being replaced by the PDP line, I know my P99 is going to be like the the Force, and will always be with me
the walther p99as is my EDC, i chose it because of the James Bond films i watched when i was little.
Mine was going to be my every day carry until I realized just how bulky it was going to be when sitting down. So I usually carry a PPK/s instead.
@@warrenrhinerson6373 Canik makes Walther P99 style guns. Their MC9 has been all over my news feed and I've been hearing the TP9SC wasn't bad either.
@@warrenrhinerson6373You might try the PPS (m1 or m2). Very slim and easy to carry. Great trigger and shoots like a bigger gun.
This was the first full size pistol I ever bought. First striker fired. I had no idea this was the bond gun until years later. This is still my favorite pistol. I has never failed me. I had it in both 40 and 9mm. I traded the 40 away but the 9mm will never ever leave me. I would love to get one of the finals. I'm fortunate to own several pistols that are of good quality.
The walther p99 is what got me into guns. I had a p99 bb gun as a kid and my love for guns took off from there.
Same here. Had a silver and black version of this if I recall. Definitely will be buying this final edition and will likely keep it forever as a sentimental piece of my love for guns.
Same.
Likewise, a weighted 1:1 replica, which was an absolute dream to hold and fire 😍😍😍😍
One of my first pistol was a P99 40sw, and still a favorite! I've compared every firearm I've purchased and fired to the P99. Colion, you are spot on about everything great with the firearm. I now own 4 Walthers and compare every pistol to the P99 and the PDP
Walther is underrated. I love their guns
I personally love the paddle style mag release!! I wish it was offered on a lot more pistols!!
I, too, am a weirdo American who loves it. I love it on my HK VP40 that I EDC over the button on my Sig SP2022, which I neglect
@@briancochron5598 I prefer the paddle mag release over the button style mag release !!!
I think its cool to have options. Would be nice to see aftermarket kits to change the button to a lever or vice versa for like $30
The P99 was the third handgun I ever bought after a Springfield 1911 and a S&W 686. I got it in 40 S&W and my main reasoning was because it was James Bond's gun starting with Tomorrow Never Dies. I still have it to this day, it is one of the most comfortable guns to hold that I own and it is my bedside gun specifically because of the double action feature, not taking any chances if I wake up suddenly in the middle of the night.
I have the smith mod 99 basically same thing but in 40 cal…sweet gun!
Have had the P99 .40 for years.................... trying to get my hands on the 9 with this final release. Update..................................... In June 2023.................. got my .9MM final edtion. :)
Just picked up this final edition version and the black P99 AS. Definitely worthy of adding to the collection and I’m a weirdo american that loves the paddle mag release lol.
Off topic, but I have an idea about all this common sense gun control. Can we get a bill introduced that would save billions of dollars, and help our politicians be more self sufficient. Can't we just make it that all politicians are gun free zones. Then we can do away with taxpayer funded capital police, taxpayer funded private security. If gun free zones are the answer. Then politicians can lead by example. And it would free up billions of dollars.
That would be too much bravery for them to endure. They're anti gun so that they can rake in millions from us pro gunners through tax stamps.
How about we just honor the constitution, and quit infringing on people's God given rights?
@@thickoc4539 that would be too constitutional.
@@johnqpublic2718 Then move to Cuba
@Thickoc45 I'm all for that. But I live in Michigan, and she (the governor) is coming for all of our guns. She wants us to register all of our guns. And frankly, I'm pissed.
I dig the paddle as an American. Love the P99, first saw it in the Brosnan 007 movie and it was my first handgun. I always thought the DA/SA style mechanism was innovative and unique, along with the paddle release. I've always shot this gun really well.
I carried a P99 in .40 for 22 years,amazing firearm
I always thought the P99 was really cool. It's like a DA/SA striker fired pistol. When I was a kid, my uncle got one and I thought it was the coolest gun ever. It looks like a gun inspired from 80s sci-fi or space. Plus I remember seeing it in the Bond and Underworld movies.
I agree this was the best toy gun as a kid I just never thought it was real bcuz I never knew the name of it when I got older
It's also a Bond gun. From Tomorrow never dies up through Casino Royale (4 movies, 3 with Pierce Brosnan, 1 with Daniel Craig). That's when I fell in love with it.
P99 AS was my very first purchase and is my EDC. Never leave home without it and I have loved the it ever since I purchased it.
Been carrying a Walther P99 in .40 since ‘99. Off the bat trigger was horrible…very gritty feel. After a while it broke in and is all good. Never a malfunction, light for EDC and accurate. I like all aspects of it now. As I said, it’s my daily carry.
I knew what that sound was the instant I heard it. I did the same thing in my mind, as you did in the video, sitting up so fast that I almost tipped over...
My beloved P99 that I carried for years is now in my son's possession and he loves it dearly. It was one of the original, upward tilted rail ones and I carried it through much of my time spent as a cabbie. When they were new on the scene and I first got my hands on one I said out loud "This is what the Glock wants to be when it grows up!". We're still waiting, Glock...
I feel like the P99 has one of the best DA/SA systems ever devised. The DA is smooth and consistent the SA is direct and intuitive--and the transitions from DA to SA are sooo seamless and smooth. I really wish they'd pull the P99 / AS system forward to the newer platforms.
PDP with decocker + DA/SA + paddle magazine release is such an obvious slam dunk. Walther is stupid AF for not releasing this at $499.
This was my first pistol when I turned 21, I got it in the .40 cal, I got this pistol in the same exact colors too. It was a VERY VERY accurate pistol I would range 100 yards & 150 yards and pin balloons to the trees and I would pop them no problem at 100, 150 then after that it took a few extra shots to pop the balloon
I have carried a walther p99 AS since I was 19. It was my first gun it is still my favorite pistol.
The P99 is awesome. It was featured as the replacement for 007's PPK in "Tomorrow Never Dies", so it's also 007's gun.
It's elegant, well-designed, and has a trigger than can rival pistols over 20 years newer.
Walther is my favorite manufacturer, hands down. The gun you get out of the box is going to be great. The ppq is my favorite.
I NEEEEEEEEED THIS. This is the firearm that got me into firearms! Never actually had one, but I had the air soft version of it, and I have always wanted to own the real thing.
Same here had the air soft and always wanted one. Canik is the next best thing and optics ready
@@clejmac8387 Canik is a lot easier to find too, and very fun to shoot.
@@AltezzaGang15 bro I'm hoping to find the one of the last edition P99's or new one that is coming out. But your right I've seen Canik everywhere and got to shoot a buddy's Tp9sc and it is going to be my next EDC for sure
As a P99 owner, to me, there is no other handgun like it. The way it fits so perfectly in the hand. The smooth edges and tapered cut of the slide make it very pocketable and comfortable to carry inside the waist. (why do so many handguns have large, chunky slides with sharp, deep serrations?). Slide only needs to be moved very slightly to cock the firing pin. Mag release is, imo, the best out there. Overall it's a lot of gun in a small, ergonomic package. I'm very fond of the DA trigger as I'm paranoid about accidental discharges and I feel like the little extra time/force to fire a DA would be good to have in a stressful situation. Remarkably easy to take apart and clean and surprisingly simple components given the DA/SA with firing pin drop in the slide.
I will say the the trigger is not comfortable for long shooting sessions.
When I was first looking for a handgun, I was thinking Walther P99. I remember seeing the old James Bond movies where his choice was a PPK. After they made him give up the Beretta. Wound up with the Taurus PT111 G2 for about half the price at the time. Still want to upgrade one of these days... 😁
I don't have any opinion on that mag release other than it looks like you could drop the mag accidentally. Good that it's ambidextrous. I could swap the release on my Taurus if I was a "Southpaw".
As a PPQ owner, this magazine release design is the best magazine release design OF ALL TIME. I'll argue it all day. And the only argument against is "its not a button and thats weird" which isn't a good argument ever.
I love the mag release as well. I can exchange mags without shifting my grip like I have to do on the button style.
I have the gen 1 ,it had a slight go full auto issue . Eventually the sear broke and Walther fixed it up free of charge. Walther has great warranty services
Walther P99 was the first piece I bought. I love it & was bummed to hear they stopped making it.
Have a P99QA in 9mm and I love it. Ever since I picked it up I fell in love with how it just melts in my hand and how it shoots. Ever had to adjust the sights from the factory and it shoot just like the target that came with it when I bought it many years ago. Very easy to shoot rapid fire and keep on target so this is my 9mm for life.
The P99 and I the variants (SW99 and MR9/40) is so underrated. It was designed by a group of guys that designed GLOCK as an improvement. The mag release is more tactical than you realize. You can drop a mag and get back into the fight and on target. The decocker is VERY useful. Super safe and RELIABLE. No drawbacks. This is for a professional or one of those guys you here about, “beware of the guy with one gun”. I know CANIK makes versions of it, but it would be cool if someone made a version based more on the original, even in low numbers. Oh and in .40.
P99 AS was my first 9mm. I like it. Shoots pretty well .I do need to get back out to the range. Pandemic came around and AMMO was hard to get. Before that I kept enough for self protection.
I must be one of those weirdos today, cause I still run only DA/SA pistols in my arsenal. The mechanical design has so much to love, like the deterrent for negligent discharge under stress via double action mode, followed by single action mode until the decocker is activated.
Driving through Kentucky I saw a billboard that said “Gun Control is hitting your target with every shot” laughed for quite a while at that one
I love how Colion turns into a kid in a candy store when he hears that auto sound! Lol
I loved these in Underworld. Selene carried the two-tone black and gray versions with laser sights attached. Very stylish setup for a very stylish movie.
I’ve got a 1911 Smith Wesson 9M and it’s always been spot on buddy. Perfect home defense gun for me and my wife at are older age. But always love to watch you show guns and shoot them. Really nice to get to see you show all of them over the years buddy. Mark from Tennessee. 👍👍
I'm so glad you did a review on the P99. I have what is known as the P99AS self defense kit which came with full ambi controls and night sights. That trigger won me over. It is FAST once you get the hang of it. I haven't found a SRT that beats it yet, close, but not quite. I hate to see the 99 get discontinued.
My edc is the P99 QA and I’ve never had an issue I love it
Been shooting the P99AS since 1999... superb firearm.
Operate the paddle release with the middle finger.
DA/SA - so easy. Lovely release. Easy to switch to SA if decocked - just move the slide back a wee bit.
Spend some time learning it - it's not the same as most other plastic fantastics, it's really good! But you got to learn it a bit. All the best bits of a revolver and semi-auto in one 20 round magazine... what's not to like?
My first gun was a Gen 1 P99. I still love that gun. My primary everyday carry is a P99AS compact. Some people complain about the unusual “staged” trigger, but it’s what I’m used to. If it’s going away, I might have to pick up a couple.
For others who haven’t held one: The “unusual staged trigger”, is because it has an internal hammer, not a striker. Think of a single action revolver or any hammer fired gun when you can pull the hammer back and the trigger is staged in place. Without a decocker, these guns can only fire. Which is why you may see people placing their thumb on the hammer and pulling the trigger to not fire a round. It’s very unusual if you’ve only shot striker fired guns and it’s worth trying. Lots of fun guns out there!
I am so hyped Walther came out with the final solution........
I love America...
The random Brrrrt sound, sounds like freedom.
That being said. P99 is my EDC and always will be. Love it.
5:45 Always amazed that someone who shoots that much can know so little about shooting.
I want one just for the nostalgia. I doubt I would ever even fire it but not everything need to have a use. Lol.
I owned a 2-tone p99qa as my first handgun. I couldn't shoot it for crap. But It was a beautiful piece
I love how giddy you get when a full auto guns goes off around you!! Great video as usual!!
With my Walther P99AS, I measured the reset at 0.08". For comparison, Glocks normally reset at 0.22". To properly feel the reset, you don't move your finger forward, you just relax your finger for just a micro moment and it resets. And yes, it's slightly shorter than the Canik TP9 reset (which I measured at 0.11, which is STILL half of a Glock reset).
P99 was my first hand gun. Still have it. Still my favorite. Very underrated.
The P99AS is a great gun for conceal carry. The ability to decock where the firing pin has NO spring pressure on it so throwing the gun will not let it go off accidentally is a plus. The second thing is, decocking and having it in double action mode means that when you are attempting to pull it from a concealed location, it's very hard to have a negligent discharge. You have to MEAN it when you go to fire off that first shot.....but every shot thereafter is right on when you want to deliver it. I personally am not a fan of a conceal carry firearm that has a very light quick trigger....having to pull that trigger through a long space just seems to be the best way to keep from having a negligent discharge before you want to fire the weapon.
I don't mind the mag release. I began as a HK fan boy. I like being able to drop the mag with my index. I find that on a stock the mag release makes me bend my wrists off that 45 degree angle while reloading in the work space.
Fair enough
Ave had my p99(.40) since 2001. Have 5 more like it. Still love this gun so much. My first one has about 8-10k rounds through it and have had zero issues with all (and still) original equipment.!
I remember seeing the P99 in Tomorrow Never Dies. I thought it was the coolest gun I saw in a James Bond movie back then.
I love how it sounds like someone called in A-10 air support. 👍🏻🇺🇸💪🏻
Coming from a country where civs generally cannot purchase/own handguns without a significant reason /circumstances the only way I have had this gun was as an Airsoft model (plastic pellets) … I know … still it was a part of my childhood/adolescent years.
This and the P8 airsoft, another love of mine. I lost both toys some place or another over the years sadly.
Thank you for this video and the bittersweet memories.
I got one of these AS versions back in 2018 on sale for $375 new. I feel like I got a great deal and still shoot and carry it often.
Had a brand new Walther come apart in my hands at the range, sent it back and when they fixed it got rid of it...never looking back..
I'd be interested to know the model. Sadly, there are Walthers, then there are Umarex Walthers...
@@Extra_Ordinary_Gary you got it Umarex Walther CCP... Rear pin sheared right off and the internals came blasting out of it..
@@racex428 oh man, that stinks. I don't blame you. Shame really.
Colion noir ,if you see this I have a safariland drop leg holster in fde right handed. I've had it for a while with no pistol to fill it. I'd love to send it to you if you don't mind! Love your content man!
Yup, I felt the same when walther discontinued the P88. But I loved the p99 just as much!
This was my dream pistol back in 2006. Fit my hand perfectly with the large backstrap insert. Loved it so much I owned 3 at the same time. P99, P99c, P99 in .40. Now with these older eyes had to go reddot, that of course means the PDP.
I got both the P99 and PDP. My first mag impressions differed a lot in both, I had a more positive shooting experience shooting the PDP and it’s a more modern handgun fitted for optics, better grip, slightly better ergonomic design, etc.
My all time favorite gun. I carry it decocked and feel extra safe with it that way. Love the paddle release. Had the ppq m1 and it felt a little better but had to give it up because my thumb would sit on the thumb release and had an accidental mag release. Highly recommend this gun especially with this trigger
I have one of them and love the mag release but I do carry a P7M8 so I am used to it. Was in Germany a few years back and all the airport police had them. I asked one how he liked it and he just looked at me with the surprised look that I knew what he was carrying.
So iconic I never saw any talk of it on RUclips before now....wonder why.
The smith & wesson collaboration version of it was my second gun. I had it in .40. In the navy I learned to shoot on a beretta, but the 99 was truly the gun I learned to shoot with. The mag release had become second nature to me. Couldn’t imagine not having a standard release now lol. Though I do miss this gun sometimes.
Always loved the Walther brand ever since I saw it in 90's James Bond movies. My 1st gun at 21 was a Walther P22, I wanted a factory laser but could never find one. This gun would be amazing with a factor laser also.
As a Walther fanboy I might just add it to my collection 😀
I personally love it, the grips and that mag release are what make me love walther, but I also come from a mindset of being different than others because it’s fun
Probably one of the best handguns and most underrated ever
I just picked up a pdp f-series and that thing is a tack driver!
It's a cool handgun, and to be it's timeless. I'll always remember the P99 as James Bond's gun when it appeared in 'Tomorrow Never Dies' and I hope to score one before production finally stops...
Look around on Gunbroker, I got mine from there.
Love the fact that you had to stop find out what gun making that sounds seems like you are having fun 😊
I'm American, definitely not the prevailing view, weirdo might be too strong, perhaps just disagreeable but I like the paddles a lot on my VP9s. I haven't done speed tests really ever or do formal drills being around guns for 40 years and over 80% of my life so I don't have any objective personal data on the release preference. Either system is fine with me, sort of gives shooting my VP9s a nice change of pace and variety in the whole fun of shooting different guns. I like how paddles look, no round dumb button like a zit on the side of a beautiful otherwise perfect woman's silhouette.
Paddle mag release is awesome 👌
My very first handgun was a Walther P99 QA in .40 cal. I wanna say 2004 is when I purchased it. Loved shooting it. But when they discontinued the QA I stopped shooting. Even though you were loosing the 3 rounds, but to me, it always had a slimmer grip than the Glock 23. Which was I think a good tread off.
P99 was my dream gun since casino royale came out. I had the privilege to own one a few years ago. Amazing gun, but honestly needed a new conceal carry. Ended up selling it to a friend who had the Aston Martin and James bond watch, all he needed was the gun. Glad it went to an owner who appreciated the history as much as I did.
back in the day that was such an ergonomic gun. The trigger was different but it was a real smooth trigger. Sad to see them go. Walther has always made some of the most ergonomics guns on the market, from the P99 to the PDP. Thanks for the video
My P99 is my first, and favorite pistol ever made. I'll never give it up, and never stop carrying it. Damn shame to see it leave, but glad it's getting a send-off
Canik TP series internals are based off this gun. Triggers are similar on the DA models and reset on other models. (Walther is more refined). The Walther P99 was the bond gun for me (Peirce Brosnan era) This is a great video with the minigun in the background. Enjoyed this one a lot.
i bought a .40 when they first came out back around 97/98. still have it, still one of my favorite guns.
I always wanted one, and they were hard to find, thank GOD Walther did this, I already have my local FFL getting one on reserve for me with his distributor. I love the paddle mag release so much more than the push button.
I had the SW99 the S&W/Walther collaboration for my first handgun. As a lefty handed shooter I love the paddle style mag releases. And that trigger reset is super short and follow up shots are so fast once you get used to the long pull. This is one great handgun and I am sad to see them go.
My EDC. I LOVE this pistol. Now I've gotta pony up for a final edition. This is the best out of the box pistol I've ever had. It handles like a dream, everything is easy to manipulate in a firing position, LOVE the mag release....and it's FAST! It's my perfect pistol.
If you don't get to grab one, you'll have to settle for a Canik TP-9.... but grab one. You won't be sorry.
CN: When the pistol is loaded, and the Decocker is depressed you CAN holster it in DA mode, however the Anti-Stress lets you have the long pull AND light weight if you retract the slide 10mm after Decocking, then holster. This cocks the Striker, but keeps the trigger in it's long, yet light SA mode. You don't need to have that "long, heavy pull first shot", in DA. It can be light SA, with a long pull (for safety) in case "under stress", similar to HK LEM/CDA trigger mechanism.
I was first introduced to the P99 from Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 and it was on of the handgun that I’ve had so much fun with playing multiplayer back in the day that I wanted on as soon as I turned old enough to buy guns. I’m wishing I did sooner because I couldn’t find any as soon as the Final Edition
I've always liked Walther pistols. The ergonomics are always great, and they have some of the best factory triggers in the business. Great review!
Bring back the P5 and P88.
Still my favorite hand gun. The trigger is strange but amazing. Ergonomics just make sense and it’s reliable as the day is long.
What i really like is the loaded round indicator on the back of the gun that turns red to show a loaded chamber
I love the P99. Fantastic gun - Colion nailed it. I like the Euro style mag release - I use my trigger finger to release the mag - works great that way.
I'm even more weird, I use my middle finger to release. That way my trigger finger stays on the slide.
The Walther P99 is one of those firearms I didn't know it was still produced until the end of production was announced 😅. I'll still remember it from Tomorrow Never Dies.
With the talks of Sigs going off in holsters, it's nice to have the peace of mind with the decocker.
I own a low 2000 serial 1997 gen1 never fired. I’m starting to think that one day it may be worth what the H&KP7s are going for. I shoot my gen 2 and it’s awesome love this pistol.
My first Walther was a P88 and when the P99 came out I had to have it, vary different and I can see they got rid that bump in the middle of the trigger guard that some times pinch my finger. I always think of grinding it down.
That ski jump is what sets it off style wize that is I own two of the P99 Gen 1's that I bought brand new years ago and still have them in near mint condition with box and paperwork of course !!!
When I first went for my CCW, I knew I was only going to be able to afford to buy one gun, and it needed to be able to go everywhere, and do it all. If I was going to trust my life to it, i needed 100% confidence, and no compromises. I did lots of research and settled on a P99C AS (the compact version of the P99) with shorter barrel and 10 rd flush and pinky-rest mags. NO one had one, I had to take a leap of faith and special order it from a warehouse. I also special ordered the extra 'mag sleeve' that let me use full size 15 rd P99 mags in it. Nothing about it was, or is, disappointing. It has been with me everywhere I go ever since. I love the ergonomics, I love the DA/SA trigger, I love the reliability of a striker, I love the paddle mag release, I love the unstoppable reliability, and I love that Walther stands behind their product with a LIFETIME no-questions-asked warranty. Anything breaks, for any reason, they fix it... if it ever needs it, which it sure seems like it never will.
The P99/P22 is my top pistol for looks. I have yet to buy one, but it is on my list.
This is my gun. I love the AS trigger, it moves a lot but that is the point. The crisp break and reset are easy to shoot accurately and rapidly. I can make small groups at longer distance than neccesary. I am impartial to the mag release, I am not a competition shooter and if I am ever in a life or death situation the method of release won't be what decides the outcome, I train, it works, that will do. I love the de-cocker to reset to double action. I replaced the stock recoil spring for a performance upgrade for long term endurance. I have never had a malfunction, what more matters.
