Who knows what Steve Clark would've accomplished as a guitarist today. He was definitely one of the best, the riffs that he came up with were totally amazing.
He wasn't even the best guitarist in Leppard..most of the guitar we hear on their albums from that era was by Phil Collen. Clarke looked great, with his Jimmy Page image, but was a very average guitarist.
Steve Clark was one of the greatest guitarists of all time. To say that his playing style is unique is an understatement. He was a classically trained musician who created his own style. He was nothing short of amazing. Sadly, the world has lost a gifted and brilliant mind due to the demon known as addiction. His spirit lives on in all of us, the DL fans. @@matthewrogers6866 she was not his wife- they hadn't been dating that long either. Besides, if you have ever known anyone deeply lost to addiction it's not that easy.
All of these years later, it still feels like a kick in the guts that he's not here. There was always something special about him but he struggled with depression, alcoholism and drug addiction. He never understood how loved he was and how his music changed and sometimes saved peoples lives. Gorgeous, sensitive, sweet Steve. Still so loved and always will be. My heart just aches for him.
When Steven Maynard Clark passed away on January 8, 1991, a huge hole was ripped away from the heart of Def Leppard. Not only was he a truly amazing guitarist, but a huge part of their family. It's impossible to replace such talent and band chemistry created by this man. Kudos to Def Leppard for not only soldiering on despite their loss, but keeping his memory alive at every concert. RIP Steven. Although you're gone, the memories created by your talents and passion continue to live on.
I turned 18 that day, my Pop told me the day after. Gut-wrenching memory for a High School Senior. The band was never the same, and I love Viv. Great music nonetheless.
True story: I have had a crush on Joe Elliott for decades starting with On Through the Night. Anyway.... A few years ago, I was lucky enough to move to a little village in Ireland. Hubby and I walked into the local pub one night and came face to face with JE. Now, I've been faced with celebrities before, but this was one of two times I literally couldn't talk when it happened (the other was Jimmy Page.) Long story short, he not only visited that night, but many nights after. I'd like to say it was because of me, but it's his ''local'' too, so I'm betting it's just convenient for him. If I hadn't been 8.5 mos. pregnant, who knows how that first encounter would have ended? ;-) And that, is the end of my bragging. Foolin' and Bringing On The Heartache tie for my favorites.
These words are the best I've heard to describe the struggles and suffering that an addict experiences everyday. Instead of living, they merely exist. Don't ever think that an addict doesn't want to stop. They hate their addiction.
Man, I still can't believe "steamin" is gone... 25 years now... WOW, how the time has flown... I was about 22 when he died and at the time had been playing guitar for about 7 years, and he was one of my major mojo influences... I loved his skip string arpeggios and his overall craft of completely understanding the art of the guitar. He was before his time and was so vital to the sound of the lep... He was never flash, or brash, just let the art of his skill do the talking. Period... If you listen hard and heavy to his playing, he was so beyond the power chord playing of the 80's and was to me, better than the people he called his influences... If you listen to Frank Hannon, Chris DeGarmo, Michael Wilton, Phil Collen, Slash, Viv, and even players such as Tom Morrel, and Jason White, you hear methods and the heart and soul of Steamin... Steve said that Joe Perry and Jimmy Page were his biggest influences, but I think he took their chops and made them in his "quirky" string-skipping chord progressions... Just listen to all the stuff on "on through the night", and High and dry and you will hear the magic of how he picked every note, using little special effects or hammer-ons... He picked every single note. Players today, mimic him, but using fast paced hammering and back-picking, even Fran Hannon does this... Steve gave birth to this kind of playing... Kudos to Tesla for keeping him alive ion their music, especially Frank... I still break out the white les Paul and rip-off a few chords of the entire high-n-dry album when we play live... He had the game, he had the craft, he was just too far gone before even noticed... Just think about where he would be today, if he would have known just how much he was idolized... Copied, but never duplicated... RIP my friend, I can't believe you have been gone so long... See you on the other side... Steam-on... Peace.. jlg...
I agree with everything you've said here. I was 16 when he passed on. I also try and imitate his style, which is so much harder than the way many others (including his own idols) play, as you mentioned. I prefer this style and how it sounds compared to the HO's etc.
Thanks for the thumbs-up... He was a very original player and I hear a lot of his riffs in guitar players today... One in particular, Frank Hannon of Tesla... And as far as Phil C... well, he ripped a lot of them off... Peace...jlg...
This made me cry. For him, for his struggle that he could never win. For so much that was lost when he died. I grieve for him still and will always. Gorgeous gentle sweet Steve.

I feel you man! I really miss the days when bands like Def Leppard were popular. Nothing today sounds remotely as good to me. When I was 14 years old Rock of ages came out and changed my life forever. " It's better to burn out than fade away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
God what a talent... I miss that heart and soul that only he could put into DL... I think we all do. Can't speak for the guys but I've seen some of the things they've posted or said and they miss him on a whole different level. They lost a friend and a brother.... tragically sad. Nothing against Viv... he's a hell of a guitarist, but the chemistry with Steve is gone and can't be duplicated. I remember the first time I heard Rock of Ages and Foolin... Pyromania took my taste in music in a whole new direction... I'll never forget any of these guys for that.. NEVER... We love and miss you Steve.. and you will never be forgotten.
I'm singing this song and blood runs cold for my school's talent show. If I can get thorough it without crying. Right now its not looking so good for me.
Adieu, Steve. I wish someone had made an actual music video of this, it had such promise. A white stallion, riding a white rollercoaster, etc. This could have been epic, and an epic win for Def Leppard. And one hell of a tribute to Clark.
R.I.P. -- Rock in Peace Steve, you are still so loved and forever will be as one of Rocks greatest guitarists and a great man. Your music with Def Leppard gives me strength whenever I need it. I know that probably sounds stupid to a lot of people but it's absolutely true. I so wish that you were still around but the best we can all do is make sure you are never forgotten! I raised to beautiful young adults with your music blaring all the time and they too love you and your music. Thanks again for the music, you still mean the world to so many of us!! I'm going to go turn my stereo on blast now...excuse me.. xoxo Steve!!

This song speaks to me in a way t the is no where to hide and you want to stop but you can't say NO .... Steve couldn't stop and he payed with his life. .. Ater years of you being gone you are still the best. ... RIP Steve Clark
Love listening to def leppard seen them live twice my only regret is the riffmaster had all ready passed away watching him on the DVDs he was awsome the world lost a true legend when he was sadly taken from us too soon loved everything about him his style of play will never get fed up of listening to Steve playing or def leppard as a whole Steve was unique heaven's gain is our loss

Thank God for Bands Like This. They Prove that if your good at something share it, but if your brilliant at something it will get discovered by everyone who wants to learn what make DL the best.
30 years since you left this world, 30 years Def Leppard has never been the same, I just turned 30 years old 2 weeks ago. May You live forever Steve, and to that, Ill drink a shot of some White Lighting!
Long live Steve Clark my favorite member of Def Leppard! One of the greatest guitar players of all time! He wrote many of the bands incredible riffs on guitar and he was truly unique!
Def Leppard is an amazing Band, but listen to Steve and his Guitar, great melodic in his sound, at all great Tracks of Leppard he was wowwwwww, i never heared a player like Steve.
Great video,,,thanks for creating and posting this...it is awesome. Steve was one of my big heroes, and huge influences, when I started playing Guitar (way back)...and I miss him all the time. BIG loss to us all xxx RIP 'Steaming' xxx
Steve Clark is only one of a handful of rock guitarists I would place in a list of the greatest of all time. I hate to name drop, but I feel it is an honor to be mentioned in the same breath as Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen, Gary Richrath…. RIP Steve 🙏❤️ there will never be another.
This hurts my heart every time I see it. So much lost on that awful day in 1991, for his family, the band who were like brothers, and us, who never knew him but felt like we'd been kicked in the guts when we found out. Never will stop missing him.
Man this will always make me cry. Steve is one of my guitar idols and why I want to pick up the guitar. To say his style is unique and creative is an understatement. He was truly special. Died way way too young. We lost a true, pure and badass talent. He was always live in us DL fan's hearts. His music will never die. Rest In Heaven Steamin Steve. See you on the other side brotha🤟🏼😭
Give 'em a break....just because they don't live and breath Leppard or want to know what they each had for breakfast this morning doesn't mean they aren't fans.
Steve WAS a rock star, he had no choice. It was just meant to be. Artists push the limits, that is how they create the stuff we love. They enable us to see and hear things that otherwise , without them, would not be possible. I'm greatful to say I enjoyed his art in person 4 times. The final call came way to early! Steve, you will forever be missed.
My brothers you all know this keeps being a good band, but sincerely I think that Steve was that kind of spicy what gave taste to the soup. WHO'S WITH ME?...
I remember getting into Def Leppard when I was 14. It was when Hysteria took the world by a storm following the massive success of Pyromania. What’s different about todays music vs then ?? I’ll tell you. We had full albums of countless music! Def Leppard was a standard in the mid 80s to the early 90s. Steve Clark is one of my most influential guitar players of my generation. He played great some of the most recognizable guitar riffs ever. He not only looked the part but he played it really well also !! Play on for the heavens Steve. We still hear you !!
Steve Clark passed away right three month before my 15th birthday that was the worst and the lousy gift i ever received and i hated that so much and it still hurt me 26 years later and i still and will always miss him 4 28 17
James Reminds me of my alcoholic father, and the year I almost died from alcohol poisoning, all of the near death situations, the viokence alcohol created, the ruined lives, broken hearts and the wasted souls that burn in hell now. But hey, alcohol's fine huh? For the demons, and the greedy money lovers who profit off of the misery this poison creates. Praise be to God for saving me.
things haven't been the same for def leppard since steve clark's death.with steve def leppard gain lots of popularity back in the 80'and were a great band.
OMG!!! Best tribute ever, with the best Def Leppard song. What an awesome job you did with this video!! Thank you for sharing it. So sad, haunting...miss Steve so much!!!
Great compilation. Still sad to think about Steve gone - too bad he didnt have a stronger influence in his life - he may have turned in a different direction like Phil was able to. He would be in his 50's now - and probably still fantastic in his craft.
To say Steve Clark was an amazing musician does not begin to do him justice. He not only had a unique style of playing guitar but the fact that Steve wrote 90°\° of Def Leppards songs to be honest there are no words to describe his talent he will always be missed RIP sweet rock n roll angel
I was almost 4 years old when Steve Clark died. I of course had no idea who he or Def Leppard were until I was 13 and my mom introduced them to me. She wanted me to check out Rick Allen since I was learning how to play the drums but she gave me their greatest hits CD for Christmas that same year. My grandmother thought she had a cow when I got an Elvis tape for Christmas once, she was shocked I liked Def Leppard lol. I absolutely love Steve's guitar riffs and I honestly think he left too soon but if he was in that much pain then it was probably for the best. Hopefully he has found peace but can you imagine how incredible he would be now if he was still with us. Just imagine that.
I was 12 when Steve passed and still clearly remember it. They've been my fav band since I first heard them in 1987. Vivian is a tremendous guitar player, but Steve came up with some of the coolest creative riffs. Nobody could fill his shoes in Def Leppard. Hope you're still playing the drums! 😊🤘
Thanks for sharing ... So nice to hear it blasting through my headphones! Still miss the smell from opening a new Sony or TDK Metal IV tape to record music to. Great walking music :)
Def Leppard White Lightning is one of the most famous songs in music. Heavy metal orchestra. It's better than Histerya. People who do not know music will not understand.
What an awesome guitarist Steve Maynard Clark rest in peace was oh he made the Gibson Les Paul make his guitar make the angels in heaven rock and turn the amplifier up to 10❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely the darkest most under appreciated song ever put out by Def Leppard....so tragic cuz it cuts so deep while also being them at their badass best
According to Elliott in Behind the Music, Clark auditioned for Def Leppard by playing all of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird" without accompaniment.[4] While a member of Def Leppard, Clark wrote or co-wrote over 90% of the band's songs.[5] Clark and Pete Willis shared lead guitar duties, and Clark was nicknamed "The Riffmaster" due to his talent and ability to come up with guitar riffs.[6]

And there's no way out
And no one will ever hear you - Scream and shout
[Repeat Bridge]
Run - He's coming to claim you
Run - Nowhere to hide away
Run - You dance with danger
Run - Oh you gotta ride

White Lightning - Where the deadbeats meet
White Lightning - It's a one way ride
White Lightning - Oh, there's nowhere to hide
Such a lonely road you ride
It's not easy when you don't know why
Such a heavy load you hide
You never leave no matter how you try

I feel you man! I really miss the days when bands like Def Leppard were popular. Nothing today sounds remotely as good to me. When I was 14 years old Rock of ages came out and changed my life forever. " It's better to burn out than fade away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This and gods of war are two of my favorite songs and too late for love as well
There's that melodic enchanting rock guitar sound. Rest in Peace, Steve.
R.I.P. Steve Clark. You're gone but not forgotten.
song belongs to Steve , all right. a very inspiring , loving and caring. Will never forget him.
Same
+Maretta Smith I'm happy that I saw Steve alive and Rick Allen with both arms for the Pyromania tour -- incredible band LIVE back then.
+flashy5150 How lucky of you to see them. I saw them in Phoenix twice.
Maretta Smith When ?
+flashy5150 since 2007
God what a talent...
Use that energy .... put it into your voice... that's the best way to do it. You'll do great! Let me know how it goes
Thanks, I'll probably record it.
If you do please send it to me... I'd love to hear and see it
i miss him,
Adieu, Steve.
Steve was 100% legendary rock god. No one has ever made playing guitar look as cool as he did.
The greatest, most fantastic song of all time from Def Leppards. Every feelings is awakened by the guitars

I loved it!!! Very cool! Steve was one of a kind! I don't care how old the song is...it is classic! Always one of my favorites!
It's always good to see someone who likes Def Leppard!

Gorgeous song! RIP Steve... Whom God loves, that dies a young... :-/
Steve we miss you!!!
Great Job, Thanks awesomenessk
I shared this on FACEBOOK with all my Leppard mania friends!
So very true. Steve was awesome and I'll never forget when I heard that he had died. And Def Leppard is my favorite band ever...
I will never forget when I heard that Steve died either
Crappy day. Just like when Eddie Van Halen left us.
I got to see Def Leppard a few years ago. So much fun!
The music of Def Leppard is much more attractive than listening to the music of Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven.
Charming ... fantastic
That is AWESOME!! One of my favorite songs! I always think of him when I hear it
This song is underated but my favourite Def Leppard song
Pyromania, is by far the best album ever made! Love you Steve, we´ll meet again one day. (Last time was in Stockholm 1987.)
Def Leppard is an amazing Band, but listen to Steve and his Guitar, great melodic in his sound,
at all great Tracks of Leppard he was wowwwwww, i never heared a player like Steve.
Excellent job, shows a lot of time, feeling and care. Sad to see a man cut down with booze. You have talent! Great video.
In my 75 Monte Carlo with 4 6x9 speakers blaring with 75 watt amp.....MAN!!!
79 Trans Am. That back window was like a damn amphitheatre, blasted all the sounds towards ya head!. Loved this album
Great video,,,thanks for creating and posting this...it is awesome. Steve was one of my big heroes, and huge influences, when I started playing Guitar (way back)...and I miss him all the time. BIG loss to us all xxx RIP 'Steaming' xxx
well done! I've been waiting for a vid for this , my fav def leppard song!
A tribute to Steve Clark. RIP. Thanks for sharing this. Def Leppard.. best 80s rock band of all time in my opinion.
Excellent video wish you were here Steve. Was the sound of Def.
Great tribute to the man. RIP Steve, we all loved you, gone too soon.
What a great tribute to Steve Clark he is greatly missed I cried my eyes out when I heard bout it may he rest in peace
Used to play this song on a long commute to work on the turnpike in Florida. Mesmerizing and energetic.
You did a great job. Underplayed song. RIP Steve.
Very much missed gone but never ever forgotten. Certainly one of the very best. Sometimes I just have to cry watching this video
what an awesome tribute to the amazing steamin Steve Clark
RIP Steve, 24 years ago to the day, seems like yesterday.
+Chris H Make that 25
Steve Clark passed away right three month before my 15th birthday that was the worst and the lousy gift i ever received and i hated that so much and it still hurt me 26 years later and i still and will always miss him 4 28 17
30 years now (
James
Reminds me of my alcoholic father, and the year I almost died from alcohol poisoning, all of the near death situations, the viokence alcohol created, the ruined lives, broken hearts and the wasted souls that burn in hell now.
But hey, alcohol's fine huh? For the demons, and the greedy money lovers who profit off of the misery this poison creates. Praise be to God for saving me.
James Rice are you saying Steve is burning in hell?
Been listening to them since their 1st LP. Bunch of kids who could rock! One of the best bands ever!
What a beautiful song about Steve... He is still remembered, loved and missed. ❤
Steve Clark was the riffmaster on guitar the best guy ever love Def Leppard always love and miss you forever Steve Clark

A Tribute to The Late, Great Steve Clark. WELL DONE.
There are no words
OMG!!! Best tribute ever, with the best Def Leppard song. What an awesome job you did with this video!! Thank you for sharing it. So sad, haunting...miss Steve so much!!!
Great video and fitting tribute to Steve Clark, nice job...
Great compilation. Still sad to think about Steve gone - too bad he didnt have a stronger influence in his life - he may have turned in a different direction like Phil was able to. He would be in his 50's now - and probably still fantastic in his craft.
Man this hits hard after all these years!! He was sooooo loved………I think not having his dad be proud of him was always in the back of his mind. 😪😪😪😪
R.I.P. Rock in Peace Steve
best guitar player for def leopard
Thanks for sharing ... So nice to hear it blasting through my headphones! Still miss the smell from opening a new Sony or TDK Metal IV tape to record music to.
Great walking music :)
Def Leppard White Lightning is one of the most famous songs in music. Heavy metal orchestra. It's better than Histerya. People who do not know music will not understand.
best leppard song ever!:-)♡ hat off to Clarke! all honours
he didn't write this you ignoranus
steve cleark white lighting lives for ever
Def Leppard, if you are listening, PLEASE make an official Steve Clark Video!!!!
Omg one of the best Steve Clark!! RIP Steve💙
