I just got one of these and I bought vintage so I could get made in the USA. This has got to be the easiest way ever to make coffee. It brews itself, then goes into "warm" mode to keep the coffee hot. No guessing like a stove top percolator. I think this is my new favorite toy.
I also use a farberware percolator I get it ready the night before and have it plugged into a lamp and appliance timer set for 15 mins before I wake up the coffee is done and just go pour a cup the flavor of a percolator with the convince of a drip with a timer been doing it like that since 1973
I was at an estate sale and found a percolator from the 1950s Electric and it makes the best coffee ever period all the guts were in it and I can't imagine how much coffee this little machine and has made but it is awesome
Hi there. I usually use my recalled 1967 Corningware 9 cup stovetop percolator, (handle falls apart on some) but I just bought a 1955 GE electric model at Goodwill for $7. Really dirty inside. For those buying a used one, best way to clean it is with baking soda. Now it's shiny as new and makes great coffee!
I found a brand new corning wear electric 10 cup percolator. That was also a recall. I wondered why it was so inexpensive so when I did my research on how to use it and how much coffee it required, I found that was probably the reason why it was so inexpensive. I use it to this day but I put a little handmade bowl cozy underneath the bottom of it while it’s brewing and I just support the bottom along with the cozy while I’m pouring my coffee. I hope the epoxy doesn’t get out anytime soon as I thoroughly enjoy the coffee and the percolator.
Thanks so much. I just got my "new" percolator at a church sale and didn't know how much coffee to use in it. Can't wait to try it in the morning. I remember the nice sound these use to make from when I was young (I'm 57). Can't wait to hear that and smell that again! Thanks again Lisa!
My wife found one that belonged to her Grandmother from the 50s packed away in the attic. Brand new Kenmore from the 50s 1960s cloth cord stailes steel. Sound like a diesel engine running. Beautiful coffee!!!
My Mother pulled one out from the 1960’s for special occasions. Looked and worked like new. Long spout made it easy to pour. No paper filters need; used a perforated screen. Best coffee ever. Flavor and aroma.
My folks had a Farberware Coffee percolator back when I was a kid, and ONLY used Chock Full O' Nuts Coffee for decades...! IIRC, my Mom bought a Mr.Coffee back some time during the mid-late 1980s. Only recently did I come across my Mom's old Percolator, and cannot remember how to make coffee in it. Thank you for the advice!
Thank you, very good video. I just bought a coffeematic at a garage sale for $2 and absolutely love it. It makes perfect coffee and shuts off automaticallly. You can buy a timer and have coffee when you wake up if you want. These coffeemakers are so elegant and you can unplug them and put them right on your dining table. They also do not take up the space of a regular coffeemaker.
I've been using a Farberware pot since the late 70's. I've even bought replacement thermostats to repair my pot. Best coffee maker on the planet. Oh yeah! I still have my Chock Full-O-Nuts scoop. Thanks -v-
I like your video thank you.. I just bought my all stainless steel percolator from the farmers market. I only paid $7 and it is awesome... I had to leave it overnight in a cleaning solution but by the next day it was ready. I ran it once just with clean Hot Water Rinse it all out... I'm one of those that makes coffee every morning in a French press .so I take a lot of time to make to make a cup of coffee. it's important because that's how I start my day... there's no way I would use those plastic coffee pots. I used a Keurig for a while but it's plastic plastic plastic ..so I went to The French Press the coffee was good but not hot enough... I started researching for something better and let me tell you.. this morning is my first cup of coffee out of that percolator and it was on un-freakin'-believable.. it took 6 minutes to make 6 cups of coffee and I love the fact that it is so hot that I can't just drink it down i am actually able to savour that wonderful taste...french press coffee has to sit for 4 minutes by then is cooled off that sucks.... so I am now a percolator fan ....thank you for your great video...
Thank you so much Lisa! I just purchased a brand new in the box Proctor Silex percolater at an estate sale! I'm so excited to use it. I remember waking up to that sound and smell of coffee as a kid!
One thing to keep in mind is that when “they” say a “cup” they are usually referring to 6 ounces not 8. I found a Farberware 4 cup at a thrift store for $10. I don’t know how old but it says “Made In The Bronx” I don’t have a scoop but 24 ounces - 4 cups x 2 TB= 1/2 cup. I absolutely love it!
@Bamaboompa So, making 4 cups (per the marked lines inside the percolator), use 1/2 cup coffee, right? I’m trying to find a recipe to make “Nespresso” strength coffee for iced coffee, without having to buy so many Nespresso pods. Because as much iced Nespresso I would LIKE to drink on the daily, I would go through a $12.00 box of pods in about 2-3 days.. 🥴🥴☕️☕️☕️
When I was a kid in the fifties and staying at my grandparents, they always made percolated coffee in the morning and the smell would fill the house. Great memories.
Thanks Lisa! I'm having family over today, which means I'll be serving up lots of coffee! I remembered I had one of these high up in my cabinet (I bought it 10 years ago) and totally forgot how to use it! So much better than making one cup at a time for 12 people! This was so helpful! (Especially the ratio!!) The first pot I brewed was gross... following yours it came out perfect! Happy Thanksgiving!🦃🍽🍁
I just bought a vintage GE percolator off of eBay. It’s dead stock that had never been opened or used, in the original box. I bought it because my grandmother always used one and she passed a few years ago. Well I’ve been craving her coffee and I have no idea how to use the thing. This video has been so helpful, thank you!!
My first father-in-law (RIP) made great coffee (Yuban) and his rule was "one teaspoon per cup and one for the pot" and it seemed to work great. I'm about to order a perculator and go back to making my coffee "old school".
Thank you Lisa my mum had one and she was too sick with cancer to teach me how to use her coffee pot and other things . So it just sat there until my father gave it away . I've been curious all this time how its done . Thank you so simple.
Thank you very very much as this was so helpful !! We are so tired of using KCups and we are from the 80’s and love the percolator coffee . We miss old fashioned Italian tradition. Thanks for bringing it back with your video ❤❤❤
And you were right, dear! Here I was searching for how to use a coffee pot almost exactly like the one in this video, then I found your video. THANK U VERY MUCH.
I bought a Stanley stove top at Walmart for $20 yesterday... made my first pot this morning, best cup of coffee I've had in 40 years!!! Been using every gizmo you can get for years, now I'm back where I started fir good, can't for tomorrow and my next fresh pot of percolated coffee
What is the longevity of this brand of coffee percolator? I’ve had several Hamilton Beach stainless steel coffee percolators that have lasted anywhere from 2 to 4 years at best. I would like to get a stainless steel coffee percolator that would last at least 10 years or is that being too optimistic??
I just bought a Farberware 8 cup unit. Brand new, $14.00 from Facebook Marketplace area. I have to agree with you. The taste is amazing. And it seems I'm using less coffee for a better cup overall. And this beast is fast. I haven't timed it, but it's around 5 minutes or so. I tried some Cafe Bustelo, and it's awesome. Great video, thanks for the posting...
Thanks to you and solving the mystery of the grounds to water ratio, I’m making my first pot of coffee right now in a Universal Coffeematic found at a thrift store yesterday! Exciting!
I always used a filter in my perk. Trying to go no waste and wasn't sure if most people go without and it looks like she did! I'm going to get brave today and go sans filter.
Wet the inside of the basket, before adding the coffee. Almost no grounds at all this way. I also load my basket, before I put it into the percolator. It's easier that way, for me...
This video was SO helpful for me thank you! After making my coffee from all different types of makers (keurig, coffee maker, pour-over, French press) I decided it was time to try a “real” coffee pot. I purchased a “vintage” (you know you’re getting older when “vintage” is used for the decade you were born in -1980’s) electric percolator from Etsy and it just came in the mail today and I was so excited, and then realized I had no idea how to use it! So thank you for your information. PS .. may I say you remind me of Rhoda!! I say that with love because she was an amazing friend to Mary (we even have our cat named Rhoda💜☺️)
$60 for a good percolator that lasts even 10 years would be a good buy. The Farborware tha I bought for $70.00 lasted 6 months. I ended up going on e-bay and found a Coffeematic by Universal which was made in the late 50s. It works perfect.
I have a vintage Farberware "Superfast" model that someone was getting rid of. Since I like all things vintage (and I loved watching my mom make the coffee (and hearing the percolating sound!)in the morning as a little kid, I took it just to put it on my stove top, because my friend said that there was no plug. Tonight I decided to clean the outside of it with Bartender's Friend powder for stainless steel, and when I took off the lid, EUREKA!- there was the plug wrapped inside the basket! So I'm going to try this, if it still works this weekend. And when I saw the Chock Full O' Nuts coffee, I almost screamed, because it's the only coffee I buy!
Good job. I always liked percolator coffee but fell for the ease of the drip makers. Now I want to get away from making coffee with heated plastic. All the drips I've seen use plastic baskets
Indeed, percolator makes the best coffee!! I have a beautiful Viking coffee maker and it’s really amazing!! But it’s big and bulky on my counter. At an estate sale I bought a great Corning Ware percolator for $18 and that fits and looks perfectly on my counter. Plus, it also makes 12 cups of great coffee and my home smells divine🤗 BTW, this guy with a potty mouth reminded me of making the same mistake but I pulled the plug 🔌
I have several offices I work out of during the month. I always pick up a cheap percolator at a thrift store of $5-15 dollars. They make the best coffee. I lived in Honduras years ago and I still believe their coffee is the best in the world. They only use percolators to make coffee. Its always best to grind your own beans, of have a grocer do it for you. They take a little coarser grind.
I’m 68 years old, and that’s all I use is my percolator. The only problem is I have to order filters off Amazon, because the coffee is so fine it falls through the filter basket.
Helen...use a coarse grind for percolators or just buy the cheap basket filters for drip coffee makers sold everywhere and just force it over the stem making a small hole in the bottom and into the basket. Works perfectly. No need to order expensive flat filters with a pre-cut hole in the bottom.
Thank you! I had a very old Corningware stovetop percolator, a new stovetop percolator and one new electric percolator. I really hate that when we stay in an Airbnb they typically have Keurig sawdust for coffee so I love taking my percolator on trips.
I have drank coffee all my life and soon learned that an expresso was as about as good as it gets. I could never get a coffee that I really liked until I purchased a perculator. The coffee snobs call me undecuated, but the stronger the better in my opinion and even being a little bitter is not a bad thing. Coffee is very much like a margarita, if you can't feel it, it's not coffee.
Hi Lisa Love your video! I think you have a farbarware perculator. I'm going to buy one but someone told me to. Check out the Hamilton Beach one. It twists off a base. My family all have the Farbarware. Do you have a favorite? Would love to know. I haven't used one in over thirty years! Thank you!
I remember when the scooper came with the coffee lol. When i got married my mom gave me 3 of hers and told me to not lose them. I have the plug in Farberware percolator and i have a stove top percolator.
Looks fabulous Lisa! If you get a chance to post where you got your Coffee pot I'd really appreciate it Looks durable in the video 70 bucks is a bargain. Have a Blessed day
Tonka, you can't be serious! You need help because your coffee was/is weak?! What would you do if you put on a jacket, went outside, and you are freezing? (a) remove your coat (b) put on another coat
I use a coarse grind. Setting 26 on a Baratza Encore grinder. I use one of the Melita wrap filters made especially for a percolator to eliminate the coffee “fines” that come with percolators. Great cup of HOT coffee.
I've seen some people use the wrap around type of coffee filters. I do only because I can't always get bottled water or filtered water. So I used paper filters when I can't. I'm using a 6 Cup Presto Coffee Perculator. This workers so well that I reheat leftover coffee for 2 days. Tastes just as good fresh. Getting ready to get a Milk Frother to see how this tastes with Perculator coffee ☕.
Great commentary Lisa, thanks. I've got a Presto electric perculator. It does not filter all of the water back into the pot. Usually, about one cup remains in the basket. Do I need to firmly press the coffee down into the basket to get it to work properly? Thank you, Theo.
Thanks for the HOW TO! My older neighbor just gave me one of these percalators today! What's the best grain of coffee to use? I'm used to a Bun Coffeemaker but I LOVED the coffee that my friend in Sarasota brewed in her Mother's Percolator!
I have one that I got from my mother. I think it was her mom's. Or at least she used it to make coffee for her mom 💕 Great coffee if you get the ratios down. Any cleaning tips?
Hey, i am not sure if you still check this but i am new to using a percolator, i usually only drink one cup of coffee a day, and don't want to make an entire pot. So i have been trying to make around 4/6 cups (so i can just refrigerate the leftover, and rewarm it later) but i can't get the amount of coffee right. I have an electric, how much coffee, in tblsps, and how long should i leave it on? Thanks.
Hi Lisa, I agree- this is a good to the point video with good tips. What is your recommendation if i just want to make 1 cup? Will I use just 1 tblsp if I do not want make it to strong?
I know this is an old post but maybe someone will answer. Do you use a filter? My percolator recommended using one which surprised me. So I got these fold over filters and disk filters. The disks don’t work but the fold over ones work well. Even if it is a pain in the neck to do. But I don’t really mind. Plus a tried a fine mesh screen basket. Not liking the screen much. If I don’t use the filter I get grounds in my coffee. I’m going to try a courser ground coffee. Also what is your favorite coffee. Did you say Chock full of nuts?
I bought three vintage ones from eBay recently, and do not use filters in any of them. I do buy fresh beans and grind them myself, so then I choose the size to be just large enough not to fall through the perforated bottom at all. As a side note, each one makes amazing coffee, but all slightly different flavor, and one definitely stands out as the best (an old GE one). I have to hold back on not continuing to buy them to experiment! Replaced my pricey Technivorm.
I decided to treat myself better and bought a percolator. Those plastic K cups aren't good for my health and end up costing a whole lot more. Coffee from a percolator taste so much better....great tasting coffee is what I deserve. ( In memory of my friend Agnes who used to bring coffee to work and share )
You had me at “Perk-Ahh-Later”. Love it! Thank you! Your still helping us 8 years later
I just got one of these and I bought vintage so I could get made in the USA. This has got to be the easiest way ever to make coffee. It brews itself, then goes into "warm" mode to keep the coffee hot. No guessing like a stove top percolator. I think this is my new favorite toy.

Just ordered a gourmet elite! Excited. Sick of over priced k cups.
You're the best, lady! I was a minute away from putting the coffee on the top cover like a stooge! You saved me!
I remember when the scoop came in the coffee. The perculator would the whole house smelling wonderful.

Thanks so much. I just got my "new" percolator at a church sale and didn't know how much coffee to use in it. Can't wait to try it in the morning. I remember the nice sound these use to make from when I was young (I'm 57). Can't wait to hear that and smell that again! Thanks again Lisa!
Yes I LOVED that percolating sound!
Just bought a percolator. ! Thanks for the video Lisa .
Thanks Lisa. I have both the 12 cup and 4 cup Faberware percolators. They make absolutely the best cup of coffee ever!
I LOVE the way you say percolatah!! Hey, and thanks so much for the video. I'm going to buy a percolator now!
I've been using a Farberware pot since the late 70's. I've even bought replacement thermostats to repair my pot. Best coffee maker on the planet. Oh yeah! I still have my Chock Full-O-Nuts scoop. Thanks -v-
Thanks Lisa! Just purchased my first Percolator and this video was very helpful.
Amazing coffee! I just bought a stove top purcolator and it is hands downs better then my drip coffee maker!
I like your video thank you.. I just bought my all stainless steel percolator from the farmers market. I only paid $7 and it is awesome... Great video and right to the point. Just moved out and I don't want to use coffee pods anymore. RUclips is such a great tool for adulting lol!
Thank you so much Lisa! I just purchased a brand new in the box Proctor Silex percolater at an estate sale! I'm so excited to use it. I remember waking up to that sound and smell of coffee as a kid!
I like your down to earth no nonsense approach. Thank you.
Yes. And I’ve found that drinking straight from the spout eliminates the need for a travel mug in the morning.
You are Bad Bob!
One thing to keep in mind is that when “they” say a “cup” they are usually referring to 6 ounces not 8.
I found a Farberware 4 cup at a thrift store for $10. I don’t know how old but it says
“Made In The Bronx”
I don’t have a scoop but 24 ounces - 4 cups x 2 TB= 1/2 cup. I absolutely love it!
Thank you! This is the conversion I need. 1/2 cup coffee per 4 cup increment of coffee 🤯
Great video. No nonsense on how to use a percolator! Thanks!
When I was a kid in the fifties and staying at my grandparents, they always made percolated coffee in the morning and the smell would fill the house. Great memories.
Yes! The sound and smell of perked coffee!
Thank you so much.. My mom used to use these when i was little i loved the smell. I got one and didnt know how to use it. U were very helpful..
Thank your for sharing! I have a vintage Universal and a Corning ware Stove top in my stash of old things. I am looking forward to reviving them !!
I use Brew Rite wrap around filters with my Vintage Faberware percolator. Jeanne

Thank you! I am dog sitting for someone and this percolator was all they had. All the other videos I came across were crazy.
Thank you Lisa my mum had one and she was too sick with cancer to teach me how to use her coffee pot and other things . So it just sat there until my father gave it away . I've been curious all this time how its done . Thank you so simple.

Still the best tasting coffee from a perculater.
Tastes like old fashioned Army coffee, best in the world!!!
And you were right, dear! Here I was searching for how to use a coffee pot almost exactly like the one in this video, then I found your video. THANK U VERY MUCH.
I bought an old one at a Resale Shop and couldn't get it to work right till your video. Thank U!

Thank you for the video! I just bought one of these at a yard sale for $1.

Awesome video- helpful and classic old fashioned, I love it.❤
Love that coffee
Hi Lisa Love your video! I think you have a farbarware perculator. I'm going to buy one but someone told me to. Check out the Hamilton Beach one. It twists off a base. My family all have the Farbarware. Do you have a favorite? Would love to know. I haven't used one in over thirty years! Thank you!
I think coffee percolator works fine.
2019 - estate sale fine. Just brewed a pot. Waiting. It seems like it brewed in 3minutes! I can make my Mexican coffee
Oh cafe de olla
I remember when the scooper came with the coffee lol. When i got married my mom gave me 3 of hers and told me to not lose them. I have the plug in Farberware percolator and i have a stove top percolator.
Love your video. Thanks for the Percolator information.
Looks fabulous Lisa! If you get a chance to post where you got your Coffee pot I'd really appreciate it Looks durable in the video 70 bucks is a bargain. Have a Blessed day
Wal Mart
Thanks for sharing I have that percolator but smaller. I needed help. my coffee was weak. I am started over. I have the 4 cup.
Tonka, you can't be serious! You need help because your coffee was/is weak?! What would you do if you put on a jacket, went outside, and you are freezing?
(a) remove your coat
(b) put on another coat
What grind of coffee works best in the percolator? You're the only one who mentions how much coffee to water in your video, appreciate that.
I use a coarse grind. Setting 26 on a Baratza Encore grinder. I use one of the Melita wrap filters made especially for a percolator to eliminate the coffee “fines” that come with percolators. Great cup of HOT coffee.
I have an electric percolator too. and a late 50s revere ware copper bottom stove top one too.
Filters will capture some of the oils that make perked coffee so much better
Awesome ! Thank you for your video 😁
I just got a vintage coffee pot Electric ho my God it's fantastic better than eny think else iv tryd
Lisa morning 🌄 I like you took the time tell me how much and how much coffee put in. Tks
Great commentary Lisa, thanks. I've got a Presto electric perculator. It does not filter all of the water back into the pot. Usually, about one cup remains in the basket. Do I need to firmly press the coffee down into the basket to get it to work properly? Thank you, Theo.
Try a courser grind.
Thank you 🙏🏻 now I can you my coffee percolator!
Have the same percolator and it makes great coffee and very hot as well.
We have 1 for home and one for the trailer. Do you use coarse grind coffee? We use Tim Hortons and it works and is good but it's fine grind.
Ooh....cinnamon!
Thanks for the HOW TO! My older neighbor just gave me one of these percalators today! What's the best grain of coffee to use? I'm used to a Bun Coffeemaker but I LOVED the coffee that my friend in Sarasota brewed in her Mother's Percolator!
I'm definitely trying the cinnamon.
Thanks, Lisa!
Thank you for your video. It helped me.
Perked Is The Best! Love Chocked full of nuts!
I have one that I got from my mother. I think it was her mom's. Or at least she used it to make coffee for her mom 💕 Great coffee if you get the ratios down. Any cleaning tips?
Put a dishwasher tab in the basket, and run a brew cycle. Makes it look like a new pot...
ThankYou!!!! ❤
Thank you !!
Percolate coffee on stovetop with out the plugs are nicer love it
Hey, i am not sure if you still check this but i am new to using a percolator, i usually only drink one cup of coffee a day, and don't want to make an entire pot. So i have been trying to make around 4/6 cups (so i can just refrigerate the leftover, and rewarm it later) but i can't get the amount of coffee right. I have an electric, how much coffee, in tblsps, and how long should i leave it on? Thanks.
thank you. I prefer coffee made in metal pot tastes better too.
Hi Lisa, I agree- this is a good to the point video with good tips. What is your recommendation if i just want to make 1 cup? Will I use just 1 tblsp if I do not want make it to strong?
Usually you have to make at least 2 cups, or it might not work right.
Replaced my pricey Technivorm.
so glad I found your video.. do you need to use a disc filter for this.. perculator? I thought you did
👍
I decided to treat myself better and bought a percolator. Those plastic K cups aren't good for my health and end up costing a whole lot more. Coffee from a percolator taste so much better....great tasting coffee is what I deserve. ( In memory of my friend Agnes who used to bring coffee to work and share )
@lisasama so is it one scoop (2Tbs) per cup? Mine is always either too strong or too weak. This getting old is getting to me! 😅
Oh Lisa, also, I did order the chock full o’ nuts coffee at your recommendation! ❤👍
Do you recommend to take the filter “ground bean” out before pouring the coffee or it doesn’t matter?
No glass top knob? Got My glass top Farb 142B for $40.
Thank you
What kind of grind for the beans do you need?
