Much love to Ireland 🇮🇪 from Cymru 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
I must say, I knew they were different but I thought Irish and Welsh would be more similar but Gaelic is completely alien to me.

The Gaelic languages are the other branch of the Celtic language tree to Brythonic languages like Welsh, Cornish, Breton

@@cigh7445 exactly! One would assume that because we share a common language ancestry, we’d have some common root words or something.

@@Inquisitor_Vex There are a few links even if you do not know how to mind your P & Q connections - once you can see the P/Q link there are nice realisations of familial relationship awaiting you - watch out for ‘gan’ though - almost opposite in meaning. Aimsir/amser and glas are also fun! 🤣 Keep your ‘ears’ open and your ‘nose’ sniffing for cognates! ❤️

I came across your videos by chance, and have enjoyed them quite a bit. My grandfather's parents emigrated to the USA from Mayo in the 19th Century. Apparently, they were able to speak the Irish language because I remember my grandfather, who died in 1969, knew a few words. Maybe my great-grandparents used Irish when they didn't want their children to know what they were thinking 🤔? In any regard, thanks for doing what you do to keep the language alive.
