What do you need to make a dual battery from kings and how to wire it up? I know you have made videos on dual batteries but I still don’t know how they work and what each different piece does.
Absolutely. Let's start at the beginning. Basic servicing. Oils, filters, priming fuel pumps, pads & shoes etc. & NOT JUST BLOODY PATROLS!!! Just kidding. But the differences we may find in different makes etc
Regardless of the otherwise excellent content in this episode, I'd like to say how much I really appreciate the articulate, intelligent dialogue and Dan's obvious mechanical knowledge and experience. AA's relaxed style belies just how focused you are, setting the standard and the example in this crowded, but not necessarily good youtube space. It's why I watch follow your channel!
As a former diesel mechanic myself this is a great way to inform people how much thought mechanics really need to correctly diagnose issues ❤❤❤ great content gents
Putting grease inside hubs to stop moisture is another good tip... but i rekon valve adjustments boys... plus more importantly so many people forget their transmissions, diffs, trans axles, brakes, cooling systems, hubs and power steering services on their vehicles.
Dan obviously has a gift in explaining how tthe fundamentals of a car work, without any carry on or saying "it is what it is" . l would , like so many others here , love to hear Dan do more of this type of video . Very much appreciated, thankyou Dan and AA
I knew brake fade was caused by less friction due to excessive heat. But never realised there was gasses causing the loss of friction. I guess I just learnt something. Cheers Dan. Yes to more whiteboard theory explanations
Engineering whiteboard! It’s like Larko during the v8 Supercars. It should interrupt every episode for a quick explainer to a technical situation. Love it
You know 5hits going down when the Aussie arvo white board gets pulled out in the shed! Great video and looking forward to more instalments in the series
Sensei Dan, didn’t realise there was issues with gas build up. As an owner of a ‘95 GQ, I will be visiting the Ptotex website. I have probably learnt more from this video, than many hours watching previous you tube videos. You have a fantastic demeanour, and tied with your knowledge, it has been a joy to watch. More of this please Dan.
Amazing video from you guys and good work Dan. For those who haven't actually taken the time to learn this stuff themselves, you have a great way of simplifying it. I think a lot of people learn a lot from you guys and you are doing something not many others do. Keep it up
This was I reckon of the best episodes you guys have done! Really shows how much can be achieved in your own garage! Can't wait for more of this content!!!
Man Dan’s voice is so soothing he’s so easy to watch and learn from. You guys know your stuff and it’s awesome to learn with your explanation and knowledge!
Has a qualified technician , Dan just explained the principle like a champ 🎉, a lot of people these days don’t realised how small things can impact bigger stuff , I always explain to family and my surroundings how parts actually work and how it can be affected because safety is the main priority. Excellent video , we need more of these video 😊
This kind of stuff is perfect especially for someone like myself I’m pretty handy at fixing things but not so good at diagnostics. there’s plenty of videos on how to fix things but this type of video helps with understanding where to look for failures and Dan explains things in a way that’s easy for even a carpenter to understand 😂 👌
What an amazing video. The depth of knowledge delivered is awesome. I can't wait to see more of this content. It would be good to look at all the easy to do at home things, or 1 day jobs. The common maintenance things. So excited for more.
The basic mechanic stuff was worth watching. The extra engineering deep dive into why things happen, like the pads off gassing, is the sort of thing that I LOVE to learn because understanding why gives me the ability to make educated decisions instead of just following a replacement guide. Keep on it. Btw, I love my '89 GQ LWB wagon with td42 silvertop. I want to get a cab chassis version to turn into an off-road tow truck. If only I had the money and workshop space to do it...
Damn great video, I like Dan's attention to detail and how meticulous he is. Shows the difference between someone who knows what they are talking about and are a professional, and someone that's just doing DIY. Keep this up I think its great for educational and entertainment purposes.
I've been working on my own cars for 25yrs. Never knew that thing about the little oring on the caliper piston. I kinda never thought about it either, just assumed it was brake caliper faires that sorted out that operation.
When Dan was talking about the TB42 carby and reliability. It reminded me of a saying I have heard a few times. The best way to engineer reliability, design an engine capable of 200kw and detune it to 100kw!
This is great content, more of these please. Doing an educational series for this kind of car maintenance is what so many people like myself have been looking for. Cheers mate, awesome video!
i found also the slide bolts on the calliper, if they get dirt rust etc. they bind as well, so i clean them up with a brace wire brush on a bench grinder, and check if there in okay shape. also make sure the rubber booth around the slide is good. i apply a fin bit of bearing grease or rubber grease onto the the slide. this ensures the floating calliper can slide freely along that shaft. if its in poor condition, change it
We are currently travelling around Australia for the next 3 years. My son has had all sorts of questions in relation to hubs and diffs etc etc so I will look forward to showing him this video
Absolute master in his multiple crafts. Only problem with slotted rotors for off road use I'd they fill with mud and flog the disk out. Particularly if going through muddy water or bog holes.
love the tip on grinding down the old bearing races to use to install the new races....with calipers sticking, I had a sticking caliper, I replaced and greased the caliper slides, to find I had a hole in the boot that covers the hydraulic seal and dirt etc had built up inside the bore between the hydraulic sealing ring and the boot,,, I ended up rebuilding the caliper but spent a lot of time removing that build up of dirt etc...
I learned alot from this. It's helped that I've pulled apart brakes a few times as a DIY mechanic, so I can actually visualise what is explained. Also, great presenting style. Crazy that a 50c part is what keeps our brake pads retracting. Cheers!
I really appreciate that Dan has thought through every nuance of the vehicle AND goes to the trouble to explain it to us. The demystification is almost 100% of those areas he has covered. Absolutely looking forward to episode #2, then #3 then #4 etc., etc., etc. 10/10 Dan.
well done Dan. explanation of how brakes work ,im sure just educated 95% of viewers. diagrams and easy to understand instructions are top notch.looking forward to more of these vids.big thumbs up👍
Great info and tips! I also use the old bearing race to tap in the new one, but i find just cutting a slot all the way through on one side is enough to allow it to drop back out without getting stuck.
Definitely need more of these EP's. More engineering white board. Been a "home mechanic" for years, working and modifying my own cars and others, and picked up a few points I didn't know. Definitely following with great interest More important - how do we get to the question list for the next master class?
Wow glued to the screen, great content without the BS. Very good teaching skills, perfect addition to the chanel. Also i have to say I had know idea how breaks retract.
Very interesting. I recently had my front brake calipers on my 80 series apart and although at the time I thought it was quite normal, I noticed that the only seal the pistons have besides the dust seals is the square section seals, nothing else.
Cheers Dan I really enjoyed your episode and the detailed explanations you provided. This is the sort of thing that sets you guys apart. Realistic builds and well explained how to. Keep up the good work and have a great year fellas 👍
That's was great with the in depth. I new about the last part about the brakes to a point but the slotted rotors part l didn't. Awesome stuff guys keep it coming l say and travel safe out off the beaten tracks
Bearings and brakes before snorkel because the former gets you to the tracks reliably. and you can always avoid deep water, cant avoid a missing wheel or exploding bearings.
I've learnt alot from this vid (especially the things that get over looked) Even as fully qualified Mechanic. I'd love to see more of these indepth type of informational vids 🤙
Let's us know what you think of these longer more in depth workshop episodes! And what topics should Dan cover next? Thanks for watching!
Definitely loved the longer episodes
Welcome back to everyone. Loving this. Dan is the Man. Cheers lads
Love this longer content that's more in depth would definetly like to see more of this
This guy explains things so well he should be a school teacher or engineering shop tutor.
100%
Yes, he does it better than "That Shop Teacher Guy" - and he is good.
Dan going full professional with tucked in shirt 😂
Great work lads 🍻
Cheers mate! Dan always lookin the part !!
My first thoughts too hahah
@@AussieArvos If only he ditched the mullet

Thanks nosignal!

aboslutely love Dr Dan's Mechanical Whiteboard. Fantastic segment ahaha
Cheers George!!
I kept waiting for it to say "huuurrryyyy uuuup"
Dr Dan 🤣
Yep more Whiteboard Dan thanks 😀👍
Dan = Genius. ❤
Yes, please. Clear, concise and fab!!
Thank you. I learnt more here about brakes than I ever knew.
Dan obviously has a gift in explaining how tthe fundamentals of a car work, without any carry on or saying "it is what it is" . l would , like so many others here , love to hear Dan do more of this type of video .

Absolutely needs to be a continual series!
Typical Dan, professional, intelligent and above all making topics that can become mundane actually very interesting and a pleasure to listen to.
You know 5hits going down when the Aussie arvo white board gets pulled out in the shed! Great video and looking forward to more instalments in the series
Dan always has my full attention from start to finish. great job explaining brakes to us simpletons. love to see more
About time lad's I was having withdrawals 😂😂 now we need a trip!
Sooooo good, definitely keep the engineering whiteboard going and the series.

'Smells like hot."
Lol.
Only real mechanics understand this phrase. 😂😂
If Dan is going to put a snorkel on, those big safari snorkels of the GQs hands down look the best
Love to see more mechanical stuff. I'll be saving them all and watching them again when I go to attempt my own rebuilds. 😊
Amazing video from you guys and good work Dan. For those who haven't actually taken the time to learn this stuff themselves, you have a great way of simplifying it. I think a lot of people learn a lot from you guys and you are doing something not many others do. Keep it up

Dans really good for the channel, he has a wealth of knowledge for a young bloke 👍
Yes please more white board, and q and a , love to learn the basics.
Thanks mate!
Dan is such a legend and a wealth of knowledge! Had a good chat at the Sydney 4wd show about TD pumps
Damn great video, I like Dan's attention to detail and how meticulous he is. Shows the difference between someone who knows what they are talking about and are a professional, and someone that's just doing DIY. Keep this up I think its great for educational and entertainment purposes.
Its sooooo handy to have a hoist. Great for the back. Once again sensible comments from Dan.
We're super lucky to have it ! Cheers Hammer Rocks
I was so happy to see this pop-up. Dude you are an expert....I loved this episode on Saturday night!!!
Cheers Terry!
Gentlemen Dan! Your a weapon to watch and listen too! Thankyou
I’ve had my Gq for coming up 10 years and I’m still learning. this video has been a good watch!!
I've been working on my own cars for 25yrs. Never knew that thing about the little oring on the caliper piston. I kinda never thought about it either, just assumed it was brake caliper faires that sorted out that operation.
That was fukn awesome. I love that you guys are genuinely trying to educate, not just be show offs like most aussie 4wd shows.

Thanks andrew! good advice, we cover this next episode !
This is the best video on the internet. I had no idea the brake pistons retract because of a square seal, so interesting!
We are currently travelling around Australia for the next 3 years. My son has had all sorts of questions in relation to hubs and diffs etc etc so I will look forward to showing him this video
Just let Dan fully nerd out with a whiteboard, a three hour raw cut, I’d watch that.
Chuck a bonnet entry snorkel on it so you don’t have to cut a whole in the guard😉
Absolute master in his multiple crafts. Only problem with slotted rotors for off road use I'd they fill with mud and flog the disk out. Particularly if going through muddy water or bog holes.

this content is awesome, 35 minutes of Dan spitting his knowledge!
I learned alot from this. It's helped that I've pulled apart brakes a few times as a DIY mechanic, so I can actually visualise what is explained. Also, great presenting style. Crazy that a 50c part is what keeps our brake pads retracting. Cheers!
Amazing work guys! Kudos to Dan for sharing his information to us all, not many are able to present information so clearly and concisely
Definitely make this a series, Dan is such a good teacher and evidently a wealth of knowledge. Always good to hear proper info from a qualified person
Loved it lads, hard for a non mechanic to learn things like this so really appreciate it
I really appreciate that Dan has thought through every nuance of the vehicle AND goes to the trouble to explain it to us. The demystification is almost 100% of those areas he has covered. Absolutely looking forward to episode #2, then #3 then #4 etc., etc., etc. 10/10 Dan.
Thanks Ben!
Dan could teach anything and make it interesting and easy to understand
Hahaha i reckon!
well done Dan. explanation of how brakes work ,im sure just educated 95% of viewers. diagrams and easy to understand instructions are top notch.looking forward to more of these vids.big thumbs up👍
Thanks mate!
Dan the man mechanics 101 with dan great work
That was awesome. So much stuff that you just don't think about and that was only brakes. Love it
Keep them coming. Help people drive with more mechanical sympathy
That's it haha !
He’s a genuine stud
Great info and tips! I also use the old bearing race to tap in the new one, but i find just cutting a slot all the way through on one side is enough to allow it to drop back out without getting stuck.

The whiteboard explanation was great, keep that up with the mechanical Dan episodes 👍🏼 it really helps visualise the explanation!
Great info mechanic Dan! And fantastic producing.... prompting.... and whiteboard camera work Patrick!!
That was amazing!
Thanks Professor Dan! 😊
More of this please! Absolutely great
Yes please more informative tips like this would be great… you guys are awesome keep the episodes coming
Wow glued to the screen, great content without the BS. Very good teaching skills, perfect addition to the chanel.
Also i have to say I had know idea how breaks retract.
Thanks mate! Glad you liked it!
Moorreeee!!!! Finally someone explaining things to me 👌🏽
Just because you know how yo fix things under Standing why is breaking is good to know you follow the KIS principal its great. We need more
good info.i never knew about the square seal retracting the brakes
So informative Dan.. keep doing these episodes we want more !
Thanks Dan and team, a great lesson .
Incredible. Thanks Dan. Learned a lot about disk brakes today. Thank you. :) :)
Definitely want more videos like this!
A masterclass indeed. Good one fellas. 👍
Thanks Fatman!
Yep. Definitely more whiteboard. That was very interesting.
Thanks mate!
PLEASE DO MORE OF VIDEOS l enjoy your content keep up the good work
Thank you!
Very interesting. I recently had my front brake calipers on my 80 series apart and although at the time I thought it was quite normal, I noticed that the only seal the pistons have besides the dust seals is the square section seals, nothing else.
Ripper vid lads! Love this style.
Hammer and a punch is my preferred method too.
This video has just got me interested in the channel because I want to learn
Yes... more please! Loved it 👍
Quality excellent laid back tuition , brake piston revaluation 👍 Intrigued to see episode 2 👍👍
Cheers Dan I really enjoyed your episode and the detailed explanations you provided. This is the sort of thing that sets you guys apart. Realistic builds and well explained how to. Keep up the good work and have a great year fellas 👍
Ohhhh, he said CLOCK ring... That makes way more sense.
I loved the engineering explanation
That was great, thanks Dan 👌 definitely keen for more!
Thanks, absolutely would watch more of these in-depth posts.
Thanks Dave!
what a great masterclass. learnt a lot about bearings and the little seal that drags the pads back. very informative. keep these classes coming
Thanks Buzz!
Thoroughly informative and well presented. Thanks, can't wait for more.
What an awesome video series, I hope there will be many more. Loving your vids all the way from South Africa
Bonnet exit snorkel will save the front guard.
That's was great with the in depth. I new about the last part about the brakes to a point but the slotted rotors part l didn't. Awesome stuff guys keep it coming l say and travel safe out off the beaten tracks
