Thanks Ryan. I think a big takeaway is that you are methodical in your approach, just like any project, you have to assess, decide what materials to use and also be patient. These glues are awesome but, you need to let them set. I find one of my biggest difficulties is when to cut your losses. I’m in the process of a repair and I am struggling with whether or not to stop the process. Each step though, I am learning so, the exercise is a learning process.
The crash didn't really look that bad. Amazing how much damage there actually is. Great job repairing. I've never crossed up ailerons before but I've mucked-up plenty of other stuff flying warbirds. I wish a thousand flights to you and this aircraft.
Hello Ryan & Mike! It's Matt Maryan, if you remember me from Customer Service at Motion RC. I spoke to you both a few times. Anyway, Fantastic job repairing this aircraft. It is nice to save a bird if you will. Thank you, for the video and methods you used. I actually learned a few new things. Excellent A++! ( I will always give the thumbs UP & Subscribed.)
Glad seeing you getting her fit again. Little tip if nobody mentined yet. If you brush your paint thin it down. Use either proper Thinner wich is cheap or water will do just fine too. And then go for a few coats. Takes longer but looks greater. Salute
I finally got around to watching. I have been super busy getting ready for the podcast tonight. I saw it was about a 42 minute video. I wanted to make sure that I had that much time of no interruptions. So that is why I'm watching at 3:30 in the AM. Nice work man. You put some seriouse time into that beast. 👍👍👍👍👍 from Dave's Rc. Later Ryan.
I completely destroyed my eflight corsair, got disorientated upside down in bad visibility, to low and wham! it was in a lot pieces and I put it in a bag and was going to bin it , next day I basically laid it out like the air crash investigators do and one piece at a time I glued and pinned her back together, 1 year on and she is still flying and better than ever, ove 100 flights woohoo, Hi from XJET crew member in New Zealand :)
As you said this is a long tutorial on foam aircraft repair. I'm learning so much that I'm pausing to comment. Awesome insight on this. I love it so much valuable information 👍.
Thats the best foam repair video I have seen, hands on get down to it and the end result is well worth the effort, really liked the shiny metal panels just like a field repair on the full sized airplane, all good sound advice.
I don’t use CA for very many repairs as it’s way too thin and bridle. My go to is Gorilla glue. I’ve actually repaired a large scale P51 that snapped a wing completely in two using only popsicle sticks and gorilla glue. Still flies like a dream
I too got latex paint matched at Lowe’s for a UMX Wildcat that I crashed. It was perfect......until it dried. Dried a couple shades darker. I kept adding pure white latex little bits at a time until it dried to the exact same color. Something about the spectrometer matches it perfectly when wet but not when dry.
Looks great Ryan! I've been using Spackle like you used, definitely easier to sand. I never thought of digging out a 'trough' for the glue to get into, great tip!! Thanks again!
Wow! Great job. Looks like new [actually better]. That's what I like about foamies, much easier to repair than balsa planes in my opinion. The new chemically strengthened foam is just amazing.
I use the thicker .CA and the quick set to get things set faster. What works best really is using foam tac and super glue both. I use T- Pins from a fabric store to pin anything together that needs it. I will not use epoxy unless the parts are completely broken off. Then I use the heavier round tooth picks to put the two halfs back together. I use light weight patching compound to fill my wrinkles and gaps. I then seal with a primer, preferably a sandable filler primer.
"On my count - 1-2-3" ...I thought I was the only one who gives myself countdowns for arbitrary tasks LMAO I also love the surgery gown - must have been really critical injuries
Your the man Ryan, love everything you do , thanks for all your hard work man , glad to see the patient has made a full recovery, gotta get you airbrushing bro, once you dirty her up, you’ll never know there was ever an operation, batter than plastic surgery👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Ryan, Great job on the Corsair. I have had to do some similar repairs last year on a FL Tigercat. Having every thing screw together does help, in the case of your rudder, so a new one will just bolt on. Keep up the flight videos and a money saving video like this, to bring them back to life. Rick
Awesome job on her Pilot Ryan. Some great tips on repairing foamies. I've got this locked in my favourites, just in case i need some references. Big salute from the Uk. 👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
thank's for sharing this, that's make it easy with lots of tip's you use, many people have one or two crashed plan in garage maybe it's time to get some courage
In case you did not know it you can use alcohol or hand sanitizer to wipe off the epoxy or smother it out by using a paper tile with alcohol on it . Will help blend epoxy in and keep it smother less sanding needed!
Ryan, I wanted to let know I was watching Merry Boozer Video on dirtying up a FMS P-47 and they recommended your Amazon store. I purchased the Air Compressor and some other items. Some the items I wanted they to buy, said they don't know when or if it would back in stock.
Learned some new techniques, TY. I have my own tricks but now I’ll combine some of yours with mine and I think my repairs will be a lot better and stronger 💪🏼. Again TY for this video.
what are you using to make the rivets? I see you didn't break the surface and were still able to manipulate the tool and put the spin on it to really leave the rivets pronounced, unlike a skewer
Wow made it through, Pilot Ryan and Captain Mike awesome, awesome work. Really enjoying watching and learning. Thanks so much for all you guys do for this hobby. Hanger Rats Rule👍
Thanks, while I don't have to do any major repairs on my corsair (yet), I know this will help a lot. It's just a matter of time. Couple of questions, it looked like the you used a business card underneath the wing, what did you use on top of it for the metal look? Aluminum foil? Also, you mentioned weathering it in the future. Could you do a video on weathering on the cheap? How to do it w/o an airbrush.
Sure, I use a business card and then aluminum foil tape over the top. Otherwise it will show the hole you are trying to hide. I’ll keep that in mind to do weathering without an airbrush. I’ve never used an airbrush yet so it should be easy video to make.
question< why not remove motor and dunk the front in hot hot(ie not boiling but close) water to restore the foam to shape then reinstall after checking motor shaft for bends, same for wings and tail. then glue to hearts content?
i have to break into an old sig chipmunk that already has xtra CA. i bought with no wings and wheels. i was gonna take it apart and put a new fuel tank with extra fuel line for filling. do you guys think debonder will work or how do i break in ?
PR, CM - Awesome video. What beautiful bird! I saw the unfortunate mishap but you have this baby back. As always thank you for sharing information that benefits us all and considering my famous landings, me especially :) Good Flying Cowboy! Oh - forgot to give you kudos on the inserted metal piece in the H-stab. Great idea!
Dont keep working your compound like that. just hit it and let it sit. I cought all kind of flak when I did a repair video using drywall patch. Some of my viewers had more money than smarts. I have been using drywall patch since I got into foam. Its lightweight and does a great job. I seal my drywall with modgepodge and it makes like a bullet proof shell. It will not dent or damage. You can seal it with any sealer, primer. You mabe did a longer video than mine and have tons of viewers, thats not the point. I just wanted to show people how you can do a great repair like you did. I guess I had a tougher crowd.
Your timing couldn’t be better just hit a tree with my f-15 lol think it needs some filler in the wing now . Lol will up load the video later . I swear that tree jumped out in front of me !!
First of all, why were you doing aerobics that close to the ground? That's just asking for trouble, doing aerobic maneuvers while still in ground effect. When it comes to aircraft, even "small" or RC, land and upside down doesn't go together. I'm surprised that the 5min didn't eat up the foam, but you mentioned that some people use CA? From my experience styrene foam and CA aren't a good combination.
It only takes one crash due to aileron reversal to teach you a valuable lesson.. do a thorough preflight . I crashed a brand new quarter scale Piper Cub because of aileron reversal. That was over 30 years ago. Taught me a valuable lesson. It only takes 5 minutes for a good ground check. Much longer to fix a damaged aircraft.
Gotta say not only did I enjoy watching but I learned quite a bit about foam repair . But I'm thinking that I just put all the parts in a box and send to you … #stickummonkeypants
I HAVE LOST A VERY NICE PHOENIX MODELS EXTRA330 LIKE THIS.... BUT I HAVE LEARNED PREFLIGHT CHECKS EVER SINCE... TAKE CARE MY FRIEND....GOOD REPAIR JOB...
Here's another one of our Corsair vids where we find our REDEMPTION with a successful Maiden Flight ruclips.net/video/R_l9tNpYPsw/видео.html

I learned A LOT from this video and your techniques for repairing foamie crash damage!! Thank you for sharing them, great vid!!
Thanks a bunch! Glad to be of service
This is a real video they don't talk about it they show it I love that.
Thank you.
Nice repair, it came out like brand new, certainly I learned some tricks. Thanks for the video
Thanks!
Nice reconstructive surgery on the patient Dr. Ryan. It was great to see it fly after the incident.

Thanks Matt, I remember you for sure. I’ll never forget the Cessna perfectly flown into the building. Lol
@@PilotRyanMedia Bwahahahahahahaha! Yes, that was an epic Matt moment flying in areas with obstacles. Thank you, for the Laugh!!! So funny. (Y)

You sir are a true inspiration, the way you fixed it was amazing. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Your welcome
Sir which kind of transmitter are you using nowadays ?
I fly Spektrum dx9 and also my Futaba 8j. All my Eflite stuff I fly on Spektrum. You looking at radios
Yes sir I am thinking of buying JR 14 , can you please make a video on how to select a perfect transmitter.
That shirt 😍😍😍 thanks for the support brother! Also great technique on the repairs
Kerf cut. Nice work Ryan.

Super video. Maidened my Hanger Rats shirt last Sunday. No crashes. Must be good luck.

Nice job but I was wondering what the foil chrome taping was for, Scale-looking repair done in the base repair shop? :-) nice touch with the rivets!
Scale repair over deep gashes and holes I didn’t want to fill. I feel like my patch looks cool and keeps the weight down
Really useful video guys ! Thanks a lot.
Nice repair
OUTSTANDING!
Great job guys, very helpful info here.

More trouble than its worth for the results I would have gotten.
I have done that with really bad wrecks to get pieces closer to original size and shape

TRACTION. my new word. Thank you pilot Ryan. No fixing my F35 though. I’d challenge you to that. Let me know. Boston Sam.
BIG 👍s up!
Could you use a basting injector to get the glue deep or in a nice line? The injector is really cheap at Walmart where the grills are. Just an idea
Good as new.
What is name of the zinc chromate paint you used Ryan? I need to paint a warbird and not sure what that color is you used.
I think I showed the paint mix on the jar. Standby though I’ll put the proper one on my Amazon store and send you the link..

Not that anyone wants to crash, sometimes with a few repairs carried out well, it somehow gives the plane more realism, particularly on warbirds
balsa breaker you’re right
What happened on take off seemed all good then went ballistic ?
Ailerons reversed, my fault
Oh yeah that’ll do it
ruclips.net/video/RrTQfK112co/видео.html
As far as RC's go, what scale is this ?
Close to 1:8 scale. Full size wingspan 41 feet. 41’x12” = 492inches divided by model wingspan of 63 inches = close to 1:8 scale

Ryan are you in Tyvek repairing this ship? ETA: Nevermind, it's part of the "Doctor's Office" sight gag you and Cap'n Mike were doing, LOL.
Looks nice, did you ever figure out if reversing the ribbons reversed the ailerons?
Not yet, thanks
