  • Well this video definitely did not end up how i originally planned but I'm very happy with the outcome and i think it will be the best solution for my steering set up. I'm impressed with the quality of the Sweet MFG. hub assembly and if you're looking to do something similar in your vehicle i say give this a shot. I hope you all enjoyed the video and remember if you need any parts for you project hit up Sneveys Offroad. Thanks for watching!

    Great video! Thanks for the shout out. It was great having you and Sam down. I will be going the same route on the orbital valve location. Your buddies Evo is identical the one I had a years ago. Seeing it brought back snow drifting memories🤘🤘🔥🔥

      Thanks brother! It was a blast stopping by your shop and checking out the build! It’s gonna be sick when you get it all finished up. It was funny watching him get stuck on the ice haha. Check through the comments on this video, there was some good info about the orbital mounting that I’m going to change up that might help you out when the time comes for yours 🤙🏻 thanks for watching buddy!

      Bill, is there a channel documenting your build? I'm really digging the altered yj but I'm about to snag up my first YJ and am trying to soak up all the ideas I'm able too. I found an all original 87 with 160000 miles and no rust so I've got a good start.

      John I just saw your comment. I have content filmed for a couple videos. I haven't put anything out yet. If you want to subscribe I should have it out soon. Cody I have an idea in mind for a tilting orbital mount. I'm going to design it in CAD and make one for myself. If I get the design ironed out I'm going send you one. So don't burn those tacks in yet brother.

    I would have never thought that the hydro valve would be inside the cab like that. And to make you feel better. iv bought parts Left them sitting and then by more parts lol. If I was to have a RUclips channel it would be called The absent-minded life. 😕🤣 Great work as always 👍

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  3 года назад +1

      Haha 😂 I could probably change the channel name to that and it would fit me as well lol. But yeah I’ve seen a few guys run it inside the cab and it helps free up space in the engine bay a bit. I’m definitely curious to see how it works out. I’ll be updating my experiences for sure. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel!!

    Diggin the build so far. Two things.
    1) I believe the system is meant to have the column and orbital on opposite sides of the bracket sandwiching it. Sounds counter to logic, but that's how I did mine after reading that.
    2) consider notching the bracket and running the hoses sideways of the orbital. The sweep of the elbows and hoses down might be a pain.

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  3 года назад

      Thank you for the input! I was trying to figure out how the bracket was mounted and I looked at a few different pictures and how other did and just went for it. I didn’t know if the bracket thickness would effect the spline lock up between the orbital and the column. I was also considering doing the lines to the side but like you said notching the bracket would have to be done. Currently it’s only in for mock up but I will for sure explore having the lines going in different directions. I really appreciate the info and thank you for watching and supporting the channel!!

    • @sonnywillier9419
      @sonnywillier9419 3 года назад +1

      @@altered_life Seems backwards, but I read that the thickness of the bracket needs to be there so there is no binding between the orbital and column??? Could be internet lore, but it has worked for years on mine. Take it for what it's worth..... Random info from strangers on the internet!
      I chuckled that you have a steering wheel with the straight up visual indicator. You'll get a kick for the first few months of how full hydro and "centered" steering drifts around constantly. That red line is going to creep around all over the place while you drive. If that is something that is going to bother you, you might want a different wheel, or to black out the red line.

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  3 года назад

      That’s good info, thank you for letting me know. I’ll give it a shot and see how it works. Worst case if it doesn’t work I’ll swap it the other way and see how it performs then. Funny you say that about the line because I was thinking that also haha we’ll see if it bugs me although I do have a return to center orbital If that makes a difference. Again I don’t really know anything about it so I’m learning as I go and having info like this helps a lot 🍻

    • @BumDog2112
      @BumDog2112 3 года назад +2

      Sonny Willier is correct. Also makes the assembly much easier to remove. Don’t have to thread the column through the bracket. Also wouldn’t hurt to flip that bracket around 180 degrees so the mounting face is coming off the back side of the dash bar. Then you can rotate the valve so the lines come off either side. This frees up leg room and makes things easier to bleed. But you might need to use the longer column at that point since the mounting surface will be farther away from you. You can also purchase (or fabricate) a spacer to out between the disconnect and steering wheel. But in the end, notching one side of the bracket and rotating the valve 90 degrees is the easiest. I highly recommend having the lines come from the side. Loving the build and sorry for the long winded response.

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  3 года назад

      No need to apologize for being long winded haha I appreciate as much info as I can get and it only helps me understand everything more and ultimately gain more knowledge. I’ve never done anything like this before so hearing from people that have experience helps a lot. I’m definitely going to take your suggestions and look into solutions to make my set up better. It seems like there’s a lot of input to have the lines come from the side so again thank you for the tips and thank you for watching and supporting the build!!🤘🏻

    Can the orbital valve be turned to the left or right so the hydro lines will be to the side .

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  3 года назад +1

      Yes I think so but the current bracket restricts it from being mounted sideways. I think if I notch it I can make it work and I’m definitely going to look into that when final assembly and mounting comes into play. Thank you watching and the suggestion!

      For the TJ’s, genright has a kit that comes with all the parts to bolt it right up. They use the sweet manufacturing hub in their kit as well. If you’re a diy kinda person and like to do it yourself you can do what I did and order a sweet manufacturing hub directly from them and fab it up yourself

      With how I have it in the bracket currently I can only go up or down but someone else commented and talked about flipping the bracket so I think I’m going to do that because there is a lot of recommendations for me to run the lines sideways.
