The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

Oh yes, Ron ole boy, the twentieth century came around and then the world just exploded with all new and wonderful ideas. The world practically changed overnight, as so it seemed, but it didn't change the people on how they thought about of one nation to another nation. It's a shame, we as human beings may have to reinvent ourselves, to remain here and continue and thrive, to enjoy these wonderful works, that's in God's plan. If you think about it? immigrants are what made this county what it is today, strong!!! What a fantastic presentation and food for thought, a wonderful story you shared with us, a huge thanks to you RC! keep up the great work! REST IN PEACE to the ISMAN FAMILY, and also to DEB, thank you!!! signed, Greg the Egg.

❤ That was awesome. My grandfather emigrated here from Czechoslovakia and was a tailor. He passed away before I was born but this gives me some idea of what his job was like. Thank you. I'm copying the membership roles of Sokol Chicago and translating from the Czech. The list starts from 1897 and there were many tailors in their ranks.

This was very interesting. I enjoyed the Friday afternoon snippet. I really appreciate the time you take to put your video’s together. Too many people take for granted the people of the past. Their labors and efforts, their lives were lived day to day. We seldom think about how work was done without our modern technology. I felt this family lived for their family, friend and community including their faith. These snippets keep faces of the forgotten - not forgotten! R.I.P.

Thank you Ron , for this video. My parents are both Ukrainian, My Mom is 87, my Dad passed away in 2020 from dementia. My Mom was born in a village called Wolchusy, Ukraine in 1935. My Dads parents came to Canada long before he was born . There were lots of Jewish people where I grew up ; my Mom calls them Ukrainian Jews , we knew all of the families well & had Jewish friends. My Mom came to Canada in 1941 & couldn’t speak English, neither could my grandparents. She was the oldest of 6 but at the time she was their only child. Over the years , my Mom has told me so many interesting stories about coming to Canada & the culture shock. If you’d like more information, I can ask her . My grandfather got a job at the Steel Plant in Whitney Pier. My Mom married my Dad in 1958 after she became a nurse & they raised the four of us. I’m so proud of my Mom & my heritage. I received my DNA results a few weeks ago & I’m 97.3% Eastern European & 2.7 % British, also from Moldova, Northeastern Romania, Germany & Poland! Next I will try Ancestry DNA just to compare. My Mom never met her Dad & isn’t completely sure of his name. That was my main reason for getting the test done although I find ancestry very interesting in general. I’m in the process of getting my 3 children tested as well as my Mom. I need some closure as she or any of us aren’t getting any younger ! I discovered your channel a few months ago & love your videos. Job well done & always looking forward to more videos… Your true fan 🤗🤗. Marie Horechuk

When I met my family in 93' my sister Yvonne lived at 2628 W Crystal St., only seven blocks from where this family moved to. She was an incredible artist and after I moved to Wisconsin, she sent me a picture of her house in Chicago that she sketched that I still have today. Chicago is such a large city, but I keep feeling like it's really not because I'm always finding someone who grew up near where I lived or hung in the area, I hung in. It's so strange to think of that happening when the population there is about 2.75 million people! I love these Friday snippets. You can never learn enough. Deb sure is a great asset to your channel btw! She doesn't get enough thanks so cheers to you and Deb for another great story. If pictures really do speak a thousand words, then I think the oldest son looks like a very sweet man in his picture.

Really brings these peoples lives back for us to see…. How this country was built on their hard work! Their work ethic was incomparable to many today that don’t want to work at all. Beautiful story as only you could do, taking us back. I had a coworker friend whose father was buried there. Beautiful grounds. One of the first things I did with half a paycheck was to have a shirt made by a tailor. Cost $3 more to make it for a female. Chicago had the best. There was even a tailoring major in my vocational high school.

I really enjoyed this little history snippet that brought these people to life. Thank you Ron and Deb. Hope to see more like this. I think most people rolled their own cigarettes at that time. My grandfather did until he quit smoking in the late 70's/early 80's. I can still picture his hands taking the tobacco out of the tin (Prince Albert) and carefully putting it on the paper and tightly rolling it up then licking the edge of the paper so it would stay rolled. I still have a few of his old Prince Albert cans. Sweet memories. My friends always said I rolled the best joints way back in my wild teen years. Hmm, wonder where I learned it from? Rofl!

This was great Ron! The music the photography. Loved the history lesson on the Ukraine as my son in law is Ukrainian. The map was great. Their home looks well taken care of after all these years. When I was in high school many years ago, I worked for a tailor in my neighborhood Mike the Tailor. He's still alive He's 100 years old. Like you say, he was in the front and his tailors were men and way in the back. Mike was from Greece and would sponsor men to come to USA, give them a decent wage and help them bring their families here. They all became citizens. He didn't make the suits but did alterations for men and women and had a dry cleaner service besides. Thanks for this afternoon break, I enjoyed this so much ❤️

My grandmother's father was a tailor in Louisiana. I don't know how big of a shop he had or how many employees, but I do know that he made a comfortable living to raise his nine children and leave them each a modest inheritance. Buried in Waldheim (not Jewish Waldheim) are my paternal Great Grandparents, Grandparents, baby Great Uncle (died in 1918 as did Great Grandfather) of the Spanish flu. My Great Grandmother and some of 5 siblings were orphaned in Northern Moravia due to conflicts, and somehow made it to the US to me indentured servants/apprentices were split up. My Memo became a household staff for a wealthy Jewish family in NYC. Her brother Nick went on to be an apprentice tailor, brother Frank went on to metalworking tinsmith apprenticeship, brother John was a blacksheep and fell into syndicate activities and had a trucking firm in Chicago. During the Prohibition you can imagine what he was up to. Family changed the spelling of their name Stepanek to Stepanik so people wouldn't think he was their kin. He had some connection to the 1919 Black Sox. She had another sister, but don't know much of her. They are all buried around here, maybe some othere here at Waldheim (which is adjacent to Jewish Waldheim. I'm always long winded sorry, but thought I'd share 😏. Oh, this is David Sanderson from IL here nearby Ron headquarters. I share stuff periodically on the FB Group. My RUclips posting name is weird.

Gotta call this one a "slam-dunk" for you and Deb, Ron. Terrific production value, guys! My, how this channel has come along! My first steady girlfriend was of Russian Jewish descent. Her immediate family assured me that the persecution their ancestors suffered under the Czars and Communist government (for ethnic and political reasons respectively) were awful and something to be escaped if at all possible. I can only imagine what the added burden of being a UKRAINIAN Jew would have involved under those regimes. Some Ukrainians and Russians harbor grievances between themselves to this day; even in this country. I have seen that first-hand. And there is a long history of antisemitism in both of their former countries; and it persists today as well. The US must have seemed like a paradise to those Ukrainian Jews lucky enough to make it over here.

Thank you so much for sharing the fate of these simple and hardworking people of so long ago, I really enjoy walking through the cemeteries as you make them more familiar. We have some amazing ones too here in the UK and in France, my native country with amazing buildings.
