I’m back after 7 months, my computer has been working amazing with no crashes. The reason I came back was to ask if you would be able to use a wireless headset?
I found out Lenovo now recommends a new BIOS version for Windows 10. But I upgraded to Windows 11. Can you install A BIOS update intended for older OS, or does that become risky?
Lenovo won't admit that this is a flaw to this machine, I got different answer from them every month but not getting any result. At least this one works and I can just use the USB port for the Audio.
Is it still working for you? Ours still crashes. Lenovo want to do a factory reset, but my daughter says no way as she doesn't want to lose everything.

My teen has this tower and the issues. We just followed your video and hope it stops crashing. So now that the onboard audio controller is disabled, should we be able to have the up to date nividia drivers?
Idk. the latest drivers use dch which means windows will automatically install the new drivers if needed without custom install. contact lenovo support if you can. I'm on 497.09 and I haven't crashed ever since I disabled the audio.
Hey I just got this pc and I noticed in my Lenovo bios it show mimic as my audio is this different from realtek. Mine came with windows 11 already installed and my case seems to be slightly upgrade from others.
@@abineshk5962 i even sent it to the service guys for 5 times. They tryed everything. I will ask for another computer to replace. This is crazy. This computer is broken.
We called tech support. They reset the bios default so onboard audio enabled, updated the bios, uninstalled nividia, reinstalled nividia version from lenovo site with custom install, tech said the hd audio needs unchecked, He said that all his customers with this tower - that fixed the issue, he calls us on sat to check if it worked. I will let you all know how it goes.
Update: The computer still crashes after wht the tech did so his fix does not work. We rolled back to old driver and still crash so have again disabled on board audio. Disablin on board audio is working so far.
Have you done the latest driver update that is out right now, and is it working properly? Also did you do Express installation or custom from the GeForce experience app?
I am 99% confident that the latest nvidia drivers will not cause crashing anymore. I don't use Geforce experience. I mainly use custom install and did a clean install of the main driver and physx.
@@xFlame2_ also , is there a way to do this without disabling sound from the bios because my monitor has speakers and I want to be able to hear from them, what if I enable the on set sound again on bios but still do a custom install.

@@ravioli9171 Yea i just replaced it. But i had to replace both the case and CPU cooler too, because they made the case and cooler in a way, so it wasnt universally usable with other hardware
its because you have fast start up on. I forgot how to completely turn it off but if you can also hold your shift key and click shutdown and the USBs should be off!. Note that your pc will start up a bit longer than usual.
What are the chances that a BIOS update for the motherboard would fix this? I shouldn't have to disable onboard audio and use a sound card just because Lenovo can't be assed to make sure their stuff isn't defective. I just bought this PC and I'm wrestling with whether or not I should take it back to Micro Center and grab a different computer instead.
I've been waiting for an update for almost a year. They said their "engineers" are working on a fix but they gave us some shit workarounds as solutions. They don't reply to users who asked if there will be an update or extended warranty for replacement or something. Disabling the onboard audio is the best "solution" we have. I recommend you return the PC and get a different PC or a Lenovo that is not 28IMB05. Other Lenovo PCs work fine.
@@xFlame2_ Figures. In the meantime, I tried a fresh reinstall of Windows (this time Windows 10, from a USB drive and without any Lenovo stuff pre-installed) to see if it would still crash after getting the drivers from the Nvidia site. I'm about 2 hours in and haven't had anything happen yet, but this mofo is going back to the store the moment one happens. I'm disappointed that this computer is so finicky to work with, and didn't even want to buy it in the first place- I would have rather built a new rig from scratch, but this one was cheaper to buy versus getting a GPU alone from a scalper.

@@xFlame2_ I might, idk. I'm kinda burnt out on their products at this point honestly. I will say that I did make one discovery during my troubleshooting- it appears as though it's more likely to crash if you use your computer after a sleep cycle. Not that there's much reason to put a desktop in sleep mode, but if it's gonna crash over something like that, who's to say there aren't other issues under the hood that may crop up? It's just ridiculous.
@@xFlame2_ I own a similar Legion 5 PC that I got from Costco. Same graphics card. The system freezes any time you play a video, so you have to do a hard reset. The "solution" is supposedly the same as the DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION issue: install old drivers from Lenovo's site, or disable the onboard audio. The old NVIDIA driver fixed the problem for a few months, but after a Windows update it's back now. Totally fed up with this unusable piece of trash. Would not recommend any Legion PCs from Lenovo.

I'm sorry bro but the only real solution is buying a new motherboard. It sucks that you either have to down grade software or disable the audio from bios. I’m back after 7 months, my computer has been working amazing with no crashes. The reason I came back was to ask if you would be able to use a wireless headset?
I'm using Apple Airpods Max and they work even w/ the disabled audio driver
I found out Lenovo now recommends a new BIOS version for Windows 10. But I upgraded to Windows 11. Can you install A BIOS update intended for older OS, or does that become risky?
Lenovo won't admit that this is a flaw to this machine, I got different answer from them every month but not getting any result. At least this one works and I can just use the USB port for the Audio.
Is it still working for you? Ours still crashes. Lenovo want to do a factory reset, but my daughter says no way as she doesn't want to lose everything.
@@rav2254 no. Resetting will not do any improvement. I already did that before. Try uninstalling realtek in device manager.
@@ryansturf7400 do you reinstall it or leave it without realtek?
It didn't work for me, but your tutorial was very easy to follow.
Try what I wrote in the comment. This works for me flawlessly: ruclips.net/video/iyz8-ePJe0o/видео.html&lc=UgySyIR3s_uSCrNqYX54AaABAg
Thank you so much for making this video - so far I've disabled the Onboard Audio controller and that seems to make things stable. I've yet to try gaming, but I will get to that soon.
May I ask for any sound card recommendations? I'm still on the fence about whether to get an internal or external USB one.
Honestly I don't even know. I only use headsets that comes with a USB sound card.
We plugged headphones into the 3.5 jack on the microphone. We have a samsung Q2u
Let’s see how this works. My monitor has built-in speakers, a headphone jack, and is connected to my PC via HDMI cable hence why I still have audio. I just have to use the monitor headphone jack. Let’s see if this works. I just updated to version 511.79 for NVIDIA. I’ll let you know how this works. I really hope it does iA.
Works for me using the jack from monitor
HI, this worked for me well over a year ago and I never crashed, however now I did a fresh install of my PC as it was getting cluttered and bloated, however, now even with it disabled and latest NVIDIA driver, it still crashes at least once a day
Hellooo, this might be a separate issue because I also did a fresh install of windows with the latest nvidia driver and the sound ENABLED and never gotten a crash. Try disable the nvidia usb driver in device manager; look at the description. 🙏🏻
did not work for me, I used ddu, installed both DCH and Standard versions (471.96) and crashed within a day. also disabled on-board audio. only fix for me was still keeping it on the old version that they gave us
Yeah a very few people said it doesn’t work. Try make sure there’s no Realtek services running.
@@xFlame2_ yeah, i checked for realtek services or anything realtek related services, there were none. not sure what i did wrong
i'm just starting to have this issue i think it could be a hardware issue not a software issue because my computer was working fine a few days ago and since then it started to freeze randomly at least one time at a day
Thanks for this video. I will try this today.
I have had this issue now for a while and nothing seems to help.
I got my PC to PC Doctor and even they couldn't fix it which is sad.
It's annoying that I can't play the newest Battlefield because of this
I'm testing the newest NVIDIA Driver update now with that relatek audio disabled
My teen has this tower and the issues. We just followed your video and hope it stops crashing. So now that the onboard audio controller is disabled, should we be able to have the up to date nividia drivers?
you should be able to install it. make sure you do a clean installation.
I have a Bluetooth mic would that still work after?
Hey just did this, but what do I do when NVIDIA drivers have to update, do I do custom and check off some of them?
Just crashed : /
Idk. the latest drivers use dch which means windows will automatically install the new drivers if needed without custom install.
contact lenovo support if you can. I'm on 497.09 and I haven't crashed ever since I disabled the audio.
Hey I just got this pc and I noticed in my Lenovo bios it show mimic as my audio is this different from realtek. Mine came with windows 11 already installed and my case seems to be slightly upgrade from others.
Nahimic, sorry. It’s paired with the realtek. Do you know if these new realeased ones with the same model number will have this issue
I’m no expert but I think newer Lenovo models have upgraded audio devices and wont cause the freezing.
Also having this issue hopefully it fixes my problem
Did it get fixed?
@@abineshk5962 i even sent it to the service guys for 5 times. They tryed everything. I will ask for another computer to replace. This is crazy. This computer is broken.
@@fractalelement857 where did you Get it from?
Hit a snag. There are games with no sound because they use the onboard audio. Any fix?
We called tech support. They reset the bios default so onboard audio enabled, updated the bios, uninstalled nividia, reinstalled nividia version from lenovo site with custom install, tech said the hd audio needs unchecked, He said that all his customers with this tower - that fixed the issue, he calls us on sat to check if it worked. I will let you all know how it goes.
Update: The computer still crashes after wht the tech did so his fix does not work. We rolled back to old driver and still crash so have again disabled on board audio. Disablin on board audio is working so far.
Crashed again with old driver and disabled onboard audio. Just did full diagnostic and everything passed. No clue what to do now?
Have you done the latest driver update that is out right now, and is it working properly? Also did you do Express installation or custom from the GeForce experience app?
I am 99% confident that the latest nvidia drivers will not cause crashing anymore. I don't use Geforce experience. I mainly use custom install and did a clean install of the main driver and physx.
@@xFlame2_ also , is there a way to do this without disabling sound from the bios because my monitor has speakers and I want to be able to hear from them, what if I enable the on set sound again on bios but still do a custom install.
Sorry, youtube blocked your comment. You have to disable on-board audio but Lenovo said you can get audio from your external monitor if you have one and they suggest you use custom install.

I dont know if you still respond to the comments on this video, but when the PC freezes, does the screen just freeze and your are forced to turn off your PC? I just want to make sure that we have the same problem before i do things in settings.
Yes and even if I don't force turn off, after a few minutes, it would go into blue screen.
this is an amazing video , ive tried the fix it didnt work . im now gonna attempt the new patch that lenovo has given hope it works . just a quick question, after you did the new patch is the computer running without crashing or is the issue still there ?
I never had a crash related to to the nvidia drivers with the patch for almost a year! So yes my pc is still running.

i dont have a link for the method i did but i can explain it in steps
1) open device manager in your computer (you can search it in the windows search)
2) once you are in device manager , scroll down and look for "Universal Serial Bus controllers"
3) open it and try finding "Nvidia USB 3.10 eXtensible host controller - 1.10"
4) right click it and disable it
5) restart your computer

@@xFlame2_ the best bro!❤️
It worked for about a year and now it's starting to crash again
Same for me, it started crashing every day again. I changed the power supply now, because I was out of ideas when it comes to software. So I bought a more powerful power supply and not a single issue for days. I hope this solves it once and for all.

USB Mics should work

We have a usb mic - samsung qu2 - and it works plugging the headphones into the jack on the mic.
Would be a viable solution to just replace the motherboard? I've done everything in the video, and the freezing still occurs..
Theortically yes because the Lenovo motherboard has the incompatible audio hardware.
@@xFlame2_ Then that might just be what i do. I only bought prebuilt because it was impossible to get a 20- series card back when i bought it. Saves me the hassle of dealing with Lenovo support again haha. Ty for the response! :)

@@ravioli9171 Yea i just replaced it. But i had to replace both the case and CPU cooler too, because they made the case and cooler in a way, so it wasnt universally usable with other hardware

Does any of you know how to have the rear usbs turned off? every time i turn off my pc the usb's stay on. Please Help! u.u 🙃
its because you have fast start up on. I forgot how to completely turn it off but if you can also hold your shift key and click shutdown and the USBs should be off!. Note that your pc will start up a bit longer than usual.
Would usb headsets work without onboard audio?
Yes
You can get a Lenovo legion pc at Costco. It’s on sale and the value of it is insane! www.costco.com/lenovo-legion-5-desktop---11th-gen-intel-core-i5-11500---geforce-gtx-1660-super---windows-11.product.100794380.html
Sale ends in a few days so make your decision quick.
Would not recommend any Legion PCs from Lenovo.
no solution has worked for me D:,
If you change the motherboard, this should theoretically be fixed anyway, right?
theoretically yes but it's weird how it didnt work for you
My mother board was replaced 3 x's and no fix
Only fix was old nividia driver. I am trying the disabled audio now and will see how that works.

I'm sorry bro but the only real solution is buying a new motherboard. It sucks that you either have to down grade software or disable the audio from bios. If that's a problem Lenovo won't fix it's better getting a new mother instead of dealing with this. I will be getting a new mother board soon and I hope that will be the solution.

Bro. Thank you!
Lenovo used to be such a good company, but this is terrible. There should be a class action lawsuit against them. I paid a lot more for the Lenovo name, but it's worse than the no-name brand. This Legion thing is a headache-a piece of junk. I hate it.
I wonder if that will happen?
Disabling Sound in the BIOS resolved the issue. But no sound unless I pull it off one of the monitors-but then it's sub-par. Ultimately, the solution was to purchase a JDS Labs Atom. An extra $100 I shouldn't of had to spend to fix a Lenovo issue, but well worth it to end the frustration of crashing several times a day and the sound is a ton better coming off the Atom than it was off the mother board
It made it worse
