As a new golfer, I find myself in each of these scenarios and have hit each incorrectly. Now I understand what I'm trying to achieve and how to go about it. Great explainer video. Thanks

Love your videos Matt, I'm currently a low 90's golfer and about 5 years ago managed to be mid 80's. Really committing to the game again and the videos are soo good and easy to understand. Keep up the good work my friend!

I usually end up using my 52 for 90 percent of my chips it's my favorite club in the bag I can usually get all 3 manipulated with it but if I gotta make a long run I usually grab my 7 or 8 iron for the bump and run

Thanks Matt great instructions and very helpful information. It’s a problem that costs me extra shots !. I’ve been trying some of your other helpful advice and it is working for me now. The other issue is what clubs and when to use them with say 80/40 yards to the green ?.

Well done Matt. Pretty much exactly what I do as well. Have been working on techniques taught by Dan Grieve with some slight mods which surprisingly are close to what you presented.

I would have used my putter wedge for the second one. Great content as always - I just get the yips with the 7 or 8 iron chip.

I've never understood the concept that leaning the shaft forward exposes the leading edge. Surely lofting the club, so the full loft is present at impact, exposes the leading edge and runs more of a risk of thinning a shot if you don't catch it perfectly. The more you lean the shaft/de-loft, the less leading edge is likely to hit the ball - you're presenting the sweet spot to the ball.

Forward shaft lean will expose the leading edge to the turf and it will dig in leading to fat/duffed shots. Having a more neutral shaft angle will bring in the bounce of the wedge allowing it to glide better over the turf.

Depends on the situation I am in but I tend to use the 60 degree much of the time as I can get more spin and less rollout but that is me.

My favourite is a bump and run with my eight iron. Doesn’t work in wet or soft conditions that we’re getting more of in Britain lately.

Personally I think it’s much better to always chip with the same club , in my case that’s a 54 , it’s much easier to judge the distance using the 1 club as you have the same smash factor every time , however I do use a 56 opened up for flop shots & bunkers as my 54 has a large sole! 👍
