@miteshghadi3146 The Soviet Union was fighting a war of national survival in 1941-1945. Over a third of their armed forces, and some of their best, were Ukrainians themselves. Fighting an existential war is very different to an expeditionary one, such as their "special military operation" into Ukraine, particularly with respect to the level of sacrifice by the population. The Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan in 1989 having taken approximately 70,000 casualties, both dead and seriously wounded. Their casualties in Ukraine are currently in excess of ten times this figure.

This was confirmed by a nurse at a Russian hospital, she said 1000 men a day turn up wounded. That's just at HER hospital.
Now factor in the deaths on top of that.
War has gone on for over 1000 days, Russia losses average 1000 men a day (probably more) = 1 MILLION men dead or seriously wounded at the very least.
Russia will try to hide the true losses but it could be as high as 2 million dead and wounded. For what? So you can have some extra land? Pathetic!

The long term damage done by the GOP House of Representatives in cutting off the flow of aid to Ukraine for 6 months can not be overststed. Not only were Ukrainiantroops driven from defensive positions that they might have held with proper artillery supplies, but Russia took those positions with a small fraction of the manpower and equipment losses they are suffering now assaulting what are substantially less hardened defensive positions than those they captured during the supply shortage. Even worse in the long run was the unnecessary loss of many of Ukraine's most veteran soldiers. If Russia wins this war, they should publicly thank MAGA for their success.

Realist Brit here. Sorry Mate from Down-Under. The mistake you're making (like almost all the commentators) is thinking in terms of casualties like in a modern war; the Russians are fighting like in WW1 and thinking about casualties in that way. Don’t forget, the British lost 19,000 killed (plus 30,000 wounded) on July 1st 1916 (Battle of the Somme) and with a population then of about 37 million, lost 2.4 of the population killed in WW1. Russia’s and North Koreas combined population is 160 million, (OK, more older people) so theoretically they’ve got at least 3 millions fighters left. The weaponry is possibly the problem, if there is one, not the personnel. The west sits back in the vain hope that Russia will totally degrade itself. The West should seize this opportunity to put a stop to the war, militarily, and put an end to the Putin regime once and for all.

I would disagree and even say the personnel will be a factor. You forgot to mention, that back then in WW1, the population of Britain (and the other countries) was much younger, so much of the fighting soldiers were actually young adults. We are not in that time anymore. Russians and Ukrainians fight with older dudes. Actually, the young men are so valuable, that they are even protected from mobilization in Russia and Ukraine. That should tell you something. So, even on the paper, Russia could go on, the stark reality is, that they cannot, because they already are fighting mostly with people that would have been in retirement or in the office in WW1. Why is the age of the soldiers so important? Because the young ones are physically and mentally more able to attack and quickly get from A to Z. They can fight the whole day. A forty year old dude cannot, even if he is fit. We see that already with the Russians, they have not the strength to really go roughshod over the Ukrainans, mainly because their soldiers are too old to shoulder that kind of effort. The Ukrainians have the same problems, but they are in a general mobilisation, so they can more easily draw on the young men, but even in Ukraine the military and civil leaders are trying to not take young men too early, because for the economy and demographics they are far, far, far too valuable. In WW1 the world was different and you could just sacrifice tons of young men, because there were so children rich families back then.

This Aussie is completely wrong headed about Ukrainian Command Levels above Brigade. There is NO coordinated leadership where a Division or Corps should be. Now I will also state, ALL Ukrainian Command Level Staffs from Battalion to Corps lack NATO quality. This is why Ukraine’s best Brigades used in the Kursk Offensive went in too many directions without supporting each other’s Objectives. This was a problem in seemingly successful Offensive Operations by Ukraine in 2022 in Kharkiv and Kherson.

If you want to be technically correct, your title should be "Kiev reports Staggering Losses for Russia". This way you are reporting TRUTH. The way you write your title is written currently, you are reporting a something that at the very minimum is very quetionable. For example, US Department of Defense reports very different numbers for losses of the two countries and you are de facto saying the USA numbers are wrong. No need to get in hot water! Say that these numbers are the claims of Kiev!

There are several sources. One of them looks at satellite images where grave yards pop up. Or expand. The numbers are huge but Russia doesn't care. They will not until it's one or two million. Russia has always been that way. But their resources are running short. Even if Russia wins the war. They will have long term costs. Their economy and infrastructure will take a long time to recover. Before that they will be at war with others. Russia is done win or lose.
