There's another point which isn't being talked about much. These victims were mostly children living in care system. Can we do a better job of looking after children in the care system or preventing them from having to be taken into care so that they are less vulnerable to this kind of thing?

I think some people have missed the fact that most of these abusers ‘have’ been jailed. The scandal was originally that girls from very bad backgrounds were not believed and did not cope well as witnesses when the cases did go to court. Counter to Elon’s narrative the people he is attacking have done a lot to fix these issues in the past and are trying to implement more useful changes now, rather than wasting more time on new inquiries that simply tell us what we already know from previous inquiries. The only thing this government is pushing back on is this issue being used as an excuse for fuelling generalised racism and rioting, that’s why they have arrested people who have encouraged burning down immigrant centres and mosques (not just memes as Elon downplayed it). The government are more than happy to lock up grooming gangs, they are not defending them at all.

Actually I used to visit the Oldham area over 30 years ago quite regularly. Even then the police in the area were very suspect in their actions. I don't know anything about the girls, but I was told that a guy with his girlfriend were attract by a gang of black youths and when the guy complained to the police he was actually arrested himself for causing a disturbance! I've heard through the years about police when they are outnumbered not standing up to the law and it's quite common. I support Labour and think they are smeared too much when basically all they are doing is trying to put the country on a good footing, and are right up against it because of the financial situation of the country. Look at the NHS wrecked through the Tories and the money grabbing GP's.

What is the point in another inquiry when the last one took 7 years and none of the recommendations have been put in place by the Tories in the 2 years since the inquiry. Labour need to implement ALL recommendations. Cooper 3wanted to make it a criminal offence not to report abuse 10 years ago and the Tories refused to do that yet they now act all high and mighty is ridiculous. I've seen Farage and Tice say but it's much bigger than anyone ever knew and they claim 50 towns - the only references I can find of this is via the dodgy GBNEWS and we all know their agenda and their articles are behind a paywall which seems strange for someone so outraged and finally GBNEWS made this claim in Feb 2024 so 11 months of nothing from the Tories until Musk opens his gob and not they're appalled, it's sickening and the likes of Jenrick, Badenoch and Truss and their language and refusal to call out the Musk nonsense

You act like this is a new thing, a Pakistani thing. I'm 64, but when I was 14 and frittering away my youth absent from school and starting my smoking habit, the house where I hid for the day was full of two types, 14 yr old schoolgirls and 30+ year old(white) night-time taxi drivers who used their cars and the money they earned to impress these under-age girls. They didn't come round for coffee. Is it any surprise that when people are getting what they want, that their morals are lost? The girls thought they were grown up. I bet hearing all this just takes them back to what now must be a painful time. Yes, this is a disgrace but what must be worse is to tar every Pakistani man with the same brush. This is only in the news now because that's the aim of all this. Just to add, my view of Pakistanis at the time was probably formed by general racism. But, the only Pakistani I had any knowledge of was a guy who ran a shop, probably opening late, but, famous as the captain of the men's hockey team that won a gold medal at the Olympics. This man too, would most likely be damned and vilified by our very own, English patriotic fascists. Shameful.

Everyone of any age will know the story of how one man who was willing to stand up to a bully like Joe McCarthy brough him down in a couple of sentences. Unfortunately Starmer isn't a stateman and never will be.
If I was advising Starmer I would write a couple of lines for the media.
"Has anyone ever taken a toddler into a space like a museum or art gallery and once the toddler hears the echo they yell at the top of their lungs because they like to hear the sound of their voice echoing. In a nutshell that's Space Karen. He'll stop being impressed at the sound of his own voice when he grows up. In the meantime he's irrelevant."

Btw I'm from Rotherham and despise anything far right but I witnessed back in the late 90s young pakistani men coming into the foyer of Rotherham college and hassling girls. Our tutors were aware of the problem and told them to clear off on numerous occasions whilst being sworn at. What a lot of people fail to realise is that whilst a lengthy and expensive inquiry is ongoing, the government's hands immediately become tied in being able to take direct action. Furthermore, a prime minister or home secretary can stand up in the House of Commons and simply state that 'decisions on what action is appropriate and to be taken depends on the outcome of the inquiry'. Thus giving any dubious politician a perfect excuse to not to do anything. Given that the previous inquiry took 7 years to complete, that is the bulk of two successive terms in office and 7 years down the line from now means that the political wrangling and debating that is common pre-election will be the topics of the day and not necessarily the outcome of an inquiry. Is Kemi Badenoch's calls for yet another inquiry an attempt to cover the Tories' failings to implement the recommendations of the inquiry already held? This is the question that should really be asked, as she will be very aware that a lengthy inquiry will give her and her party an advantage in avoiding any scrutiny on their past performance - or lack thereof. Her job is to scrutinise and put pressure on the current government to implement the findings and recommendations of the inquiry already held and ensure the safety of all children throughout the United Kingdom.

As the last administration did not put any of the measures into action, of course it could still be happening. An inquiry would only delay putting the 7 year long inquiry into action. The last administration refused in parliament to agree to teachers and other persons in daily contact with children to have a duty to report abuse. This tells you all you need to know. No more delays. Put remedies into action. Another inquiry will only delay. Besides the racist element would only have one outcome! And child abuse is statistically mostly a white thing, not just a muslim thing. And this is the most important thing here. No point in having a racist further inquiry, which by its very natures is only tackling child abuse very partially, but go with what we had, which was an inclusive inquiry encompassing all abuse.
What is important is to enforce the inclusive remedy, rather than stoking racist tensions, while dismissing the victims get justice yet again. No more partial inquiries, that are meant to delay and to make child abuse solely a muslim problem! If you have an inquiry into Covid, you don't just look at Covid in the over sixties, but you look at Covid in the round. And if you have an inquiry into burglaries, you don't just look at burglaries conducted by ex prisoners, you look at it in the round. And so it is here!
We had the inquiry, now let us see its recommendations being put it into action and check if the actions fix it appropriately. Nothing else matters now.

They did not have the power or intention to subvert the democratic process as Musk has done by calling for the overthrow of a fairly elected government in the Uk.
