Not completely. They'll be watching the 'making of' video I'm sure. It is very much the spiritual predecessor of Arcane in their style and approach and is the result of maximizing their limitations. Annie, like Arcane, is a mix of 3D and 2D, and was mostly rendered as such because their tiny team didn't have the resources to go full in one way or the other (there were only 8 or so people working on it). The hand painted factor came in because the computers could not replicate human brush strokes and therefore they had to go frame by frame to add them by hand. The reduced frame rates not only served the style they were going for but also reduced the amount of rendering required as well as the number of frames they'd have to 'polish' later. Arcane began production shortly after the release of Annie, and I'm sure Fortiche took a great deal of inspiration from it as they only had 30 or so animators initially when they first took on the more ambitious project of a full 9 episode series.
That women in the video isn't Annie's mother, its her stepmom (and Daisy is Annie's stepsister). Her real mom died a long time ago, she also had the fire magic thing :3

So Annie in-game has three skills: flames, shield and summoning tibbers. The first one killed her sister, the second her father and the third her stepmother. I wonder what happened to her biological mother ...

Technically Annie isent really evil per say. She just have little to no control of her powers and just like they said she losses all control when she experience extreme emotions. Not sure if this is 100% updated lore but her powers comes from her mother. Her mother was a witch and at 1 point when Annie was a baby she fell very ill to the point that her life was in danger and eventually 1 night her mother went out and she never came back. The morning after Annie woke up perfectly fine. Riot have never confirmed what actully happened but it is widely believed that her mother did something that did cost her life in exchange for Annies health. However what is known and it can be seen in this clip her mothers spirit/soul is still protecting Annie through her teddy Tibbers. If Annie is aware of this or not is unclear but with Tibbers being the only thing she has left from her mother she will fight desperatly to keep Tibbers safe and with her atall times. During the first few frames before Tibbers awaken into this giant bear u can se flames appear out of Tibbers and form the shape of a human. It is believed that when Annie gets in danger or losses control of her powers her mothers spirit causes Tibbers to transform and at that point Tibbers will do anything to protect her. So in a way they both protect each other with Annies attachment to the teddy and her mothers spirit inside it protecting Annie.
Annie may not be the best mid lanner but it is so much fun to sick tibbers on people. In the words of rabbit from winnie the pooh, "Don't feed the bear!"
Annie's bear was a gift from her mother, her mother was powerful too and tibbers protects annie. Daisy wearing yellow is very telling of her end, a common trope of a child in yellow being In danger, and the scene in the forest have a lot of yellow tones oppose to the reds throughout the rest of the video. A daisy is seen burning at the end. There is a character call ivern who summon a stone golem call daisy...who's heart is a river stone

thank you for reacting to this cinematic. it is absolutely one of the most emotionally intense cinematics i have seen, but it is also one of the most creatively stunning.
I think one of the biggest strenghs of Riot is their open mind to ideas from co creators and players that are familiar (!) with the game and characters. They outline the main red line of the plot and where the character should go but when it comes to microexpressions, gestures and little side plots they do an amazing job on listening in to possible ideas from others/their big co collaborators. On the same side they make sure they have the decicive hand in main areas. The league players begged for them to do a movie or series because the community knew that they had a gem on hand lore wise - so they engaged into that idea with music videos, development of cinematics and of course, a series like Arcane when they gained more confidence and people( remember that Riot started small in 2009). Arcane's pilot was, according to an interview with the voice actors, a quite different approach with a complete different finale of S1. There was much more of their childhood story which I think was recycled later for the enemy music video to not do it in vain. They took the courage to rewrite the story (not the main story but the pacing and the focus on characters) in the process which wouldn't have worked if they had any studio or provider involved pushing the dead lines. Netflix doesn't have any say in the production- they are just streaming the show. They did great in keeping the decision about their production process length in their own hands and craft it until it feels right. This is a big decision involving a lot of money but they took the gamble and it paid of immensely. Even though they sometimes fail with events they try to move on from it with a lessons learned and this is a big factor for Riots success and constant history of rising higher. [As for that said, the creators said they knew early on that they will do another season so I guess they are about 2 years in S2 production already and story board of S3 should be done already as well- making it possible to release it (hopefully) in late 2023. This shows another paid of gamble here as they didn't know 2 years ago how the S1 would be received. I am also pretty sure that with the great receive of S1 they immediatly kicked of production of S3 because in the letter described below the CEO also mentioned that in the next five years we will get S2 + "?" seasons - this wouldn't be possible if they are already on S2+S3 working] At the beginning of this year Riot'S CEO released a letter with the plans for the next five years. It is remarkable that they declared to be the best paying company in the animation section in order to get the best animators for their projects. Evene though they had, like Blizzard, some incidences with employee treatment they want to better themselves and learn from it even implementing a better work life-balance with homeoffice options etc. I think it is amazing that Arcane triggert a worldwide discussion about raising animator's wages to meet their real efforts. It also opened the world audience view more for adult animations and I am very happy about that. On the side lines Riot is recruiting for live action projects... I am not sure if I am happy about that. I think they should stick with animation which is their strengh and can do so much more in showcasing an amazing story wihtin a reasonable budget. Even though the Freljord story would be most suited for a life action... PS: I love these developers diaries and behind the scenes impressions. It is very interesting to see how much work and passion goes into each project and why they take certain directions. I really hope we get a bigger making of of Arcane to see.
Annie was one of the first champs i played and will forever be one of my favorites. ]her bear tibbers is imbued with power and i think part of the soul of her other who died, and is there to protect her. in game Annie's voice lines are funny and kind of creepy she says things like have you seen my bear tibbers haha

annie is my favorite character (like way before this came out) and i was soooo happy about this when it came out, because before she really didnt have much of a story? so this really made her a real character! im still happy about it. also i cant find it on your channel so im just assuming you havent seen it but i think you should watch As We Fall with Varus. The song in it is Not Good at all but the animation is really good and the character varus is cool and my second favorite.

In short Annie is seen as an outcast. He parents fled a nation called Noxus. A dictatorship and cruel. The leaders are not above doing very horrible things and their pastime is conquering all that is around them. So a powerful mage and born Noxain Annie had and has no friends. Her mother was the only one that really helped her through things. Sure her father stood up for her and cared but Annie felt betrayed when he remarried. Tibbers is a demon and he answered Annie's call for a friend sparking latent powers within her. In the final scene where Annie snaps she brings Tibbers forth into the physical world. Now she has been conscripted by Noxus to fight in their never ending war. The violence has burned away her compassion and now a with a very high body count Annie believes she is alone in the world except for Tibbers her only friend. So she is not evil just a victim.
Had like 2000 games played with Annie before this came out. First time watching this was...but I can relieve you. Her ingame character is over it. "Hip. Hip. Jump."
As an adult who treasures his childhood stuffed animal (had it since my born, always being with me), this cutscene resonates a lot with me and I always have tears in my eyes and a protective rage boiling in my guts. Stuffed animals are sacred. Never touch it without permission ! 😥👿🔥 And also Annie was one of my first and favorite champion to play in League of Legend, almost 10 years ago !

Honestly i never liked that 1 really. I get the story and what they are trying to show. But the video is just way to long for what they are trying to show. It almost feels like they made the song and music first and then hade to drag out the video to span the whole lenght of it.

Annie's story is still very short and it needs work. Actually you can't call her either evil or good. Her story needs to move on. They forgot about her and now players are forgotting her too. We actually know almost "nothing" about Annie. But as you can see, she has a lot of potential. I hope one day they give spotlight to Annie. As an iconic League of Legends character,she deserves it.
It's a Cithria situation. Annie is still a child in the lore, what happens right now, is her just wandering through the woods in Noxus. It would make sense to explore what she WILL become in like ten years, but right now there isn't necessarily much to tell, unless she is found by some influencial figure of Noxus. I could see LeBlanc find her and use her.

Annie's...I don't know what to call her. She's a cute little girl who had a whopper of a tragic backstory, with her stepmother being a total bitch and abusing her and taking away her teddy. At the same time, she has dangerous pyro powers that make her not someone to mess with. Despite this, she's still a little girl with a moral compass, and if you do something nice for her, she'll return the favor.
I won't say that her stepmother is a "bitch". I mean, she washed Annies's cloths during the night and even when Annie took everything from her(her daughter and her husband) she couldn't hurt Annie, but just took her teddy and got mad at it instead. Just think what you will do in her situation.

I still remember and love Annie's original lore compared to this new one. Originally she was a very talented witch and the daughter of two other talented witches. They were hunted to the point they had to move to the shadowlands to live. While there Annie enscrolled a shadow bear to become her pet and called him Tibbers. While that's not the entire story, it is the general outline. The original made her out to be a much more bad ass character instead of the tragic type. I can appreciate this video, but I still prefer the original.

Nasus and Renekton for example, they used to be from another world and just ended up in Runeterra due to some inter-dimensional portals. New lore has them both related to the old Egyptian style kingdom on Runeterra itself now, so I kind of understand that change and others like it. Annie's change just seems a bit odd, since her original story fit into the world they had built as is. So I honestly have little idea why they changed her. It 'might' have something to do with the story that her original character design was based on one of the game dev's girlfriends. They might have moved to distance her from a possible real world connection/inspiration. Can't say for sure. I played her as my main character back in Beta through to season 5 or so (about 2009-2015) and even played in a small professional league in 2013. So personally I will always prefer her stronger back story to the new one.
From what i can read from your comment, the old One don't seem more drammatic. I would say that this Is Better becouse Annie Is good ( She Is chield) but also evil, while the old Is like : Annie ( good) vs hunter( evil). Plus this Is more drammatic becouse you can understand Annie but also the mother. At the end, i am saying that you should change your opinion, you can still prefer the old One without problem.

The new story does not really explain it other than to suggest that Tibbers himself is her power source. The old version has both her parents as powerful mages and her as a prodigy child mage so her powers are fully explained and make sense. To me the newer version of her lore does not make logical sense with her in game abilities. If Tibbers IS the source of her power then all of her spells should come from him in some way, only her Ult does that at all. Basically in making a nice video and story they have broken a logical explanation.

Her mother was a strong pyromantic mage but she died giving birth to annie. So she inherehts it but there is also some more believed lore for annie being more sinister then expected but nothing concrete i dont think. Watch necrits video on her, its a very good explanation! Anyway In the new lore she never summons tibbers on command, its usually a last resort due to her emotions such as being in fear of her life. I dont remember it exactly, but the soul of the step sister is what animates tibbers when it is needed or smth. And in the new lore while she has great magical potential she never fully utilises it due to never getting training or learning how to wield it. It is a tragic story through and through and i love it for that.
I get goosebumps every time Annie screams and Tibbers transforms, with the flames swirling around Annie, and the music swelling to a huge crescendo.

I think one of the biggest strenghs of Riot is their open mind to ideas from co creators and players that are familiar (!) with the game and characters. They outline the main red line of the plot and where the character should go but when it comes to microexpressions, gestures and little side plots they do an amazing job on listening in to possible ideas from others/their big co collaborators. On the same side they make sure they have the decicive hand in main areas. The league players begged for them to do a movie or series because the community knew that they had a gem on hand lore wise - so they engaged into that idea with music videos, development of cinematics and of course, a series like Arcane when they gained more confidence and people( remember that Riot started small in 2009). Arcane's pilot was, according to an interview with the voice actors, a quite different approach with a complete different finale of S1. There was much more of their childhood story which I think was recycled later for the enemy music video to not do it in vain. They took the courage to rewrite the story (not the main story but the pacing and the focus on characters) in the process which wouldn't have worked if they had any studio or provider involved pushing the dead lines. Netflix doesn't have any say in the production- they are just streaming the show. They did great in keeping the decision about their production process length in their own hands and craft it until it feels right. This is a big decision involving a lot of money but they took the gamble and it paid of immensely. Even though they sometimes fail with events they try to move on from it with a lessons learned and this is a big factor for Riots success and constant history of rising higher. [As for that said, the creators said they knew early on that they will do another season so I guess they are about 2 years in S2 production already and story board of S3 should be done already as well- making it possible to release it (hopefully) in late 2023. This shows another paid of gamble here as they didn't know 2 years ago how the S1 would be received. I am also pretty sure that with the great receive of S1 they immediatly kicked of production of S3 because in the letter described below the CEO also mentioned that in the next five years we will get S2 + "?" seasons - this wouldn't be possible if they are already on S2+S3 working]
At the beginning of this year Riot'S CEO released a letter with the plans for the next five years. It is remarkable that they declared to be the best paying company in the animation section in order to get the best animators for their projects. Evene though they had, like Blizzard, some incidences with employee treatment they want to better themselves and learn from it even implementing a better work life-balance with homeoffice options etc.
I think it is amazing that Arcane triggert a worldwide discussion about raising animator's wages to meet their real efforts. It also opened the world audience view more for adult animations and I am very happy about that.
On the side lines Riot is recruiting for live action projects... I am not sure if I am happy about that. I think they should stick with animation which is their strengh and can do so much more in showcasing an amazing story wihtin a reasonable budget. Even though the Freljord story would be most suited for a life action...
PS: I love these developers diaries and behind the scenes impressions. It is very interesting to see how much work and passion goes into each project and why they take certain directions. I really hope we get a bigger making of of Arcane to see.
We also really appreciated seeing all the work going into this and helps us appreciate the craft that much more 🤩

annie is my favorite character (like way before this came out) and i was soooo happy about this when it came out, because before she really didnt have much of a story? so this really made her a real character! im still happy about it. also i cant find it on your channel so im just assuming you havent seen it but i think you should watch As We Fall with Varus. The song in it is Not Good at all but the animation is really good and the character varus is cool and my second favorite.

In short Annie is seen as an outcast. He parents fled a nation called Noxus. A dictatorship and cruel. The leaders are not above doing very horrible things and their pastime is conquering all that is around them. So a powerful mage and born Noxain Annie had and has no friends. Her mother was the only one that really helped her through things. Sure her father stood up for her and cared but Annie felt betrayed when he remarried. Tibbers is a demon and he answered Annie's call for a friend sparking latent powers within her. In the final scene where Annie snaps she brings Tibbers forth into the physical world. Now she has been conscripted by Noxus to fight in their never ending war. The violence has burned away her compassion and now a with a very high body count Annie believes she is alone in the world except for Tibbers her only friend. So she is not evil just a victim.

Honestly i never liked that 1 really. I get the story and what they are trying to show. But the video is just way to long for what they are trying to show. It almost feels like they made the song and music first and then hade to drag out the video to span the whole lenght of it.

Annie's story is still very short and it needs work. Actually you can't call her either evil or good. Her story needs to move on. They forgot about her and now players are forgotting her too. We actually know almost "nothing" about Annie. But as you can see, she has a lot of potential.
I hope one day they give spotlight to Annie. As an iconic League of Legends character,she deserves it.

It would make sense to explore what she WILL become in like ten years, but right now there isn't necessarily much to tell, unless she is found by some influencial figure of Noxus.

Annie's...I don't know what to call her. She's a cute little girl who had a whopper of a tragic backstory, with her stepmother being a total bitch and abusing her and taking away her teddy. At the same time, she has dangerous pyro powers that make her not someone to mess with. Despite this, she's still a little girl with a moral compass, and if you do something nice for her, she'll return the favor.
I won't say that her stepmother is a "bitch". I mean, she washed Annies's cloths during the night and even when Annie took everything from her(her daughter and her husband) she couldn't hurt Annie, but just took her teddy and got mad at it instead. Just think what you will do in her situation.

I still remember and love Annie's original lore compared to this new one. Originally she was a very talented witch and the daughter of two other talented witches. They were hunted to the point they had to move to the shadowlands to live. While there Annie enscrolled a shadow bear to become her pet and called him Tibbers. While that's not the entire story, it is the general outline. The original made her out to be a much more bad ass character instead of the tragic type. I can appreciate this video, but I still prefer the original.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I'm not sure about Annie, but they have changed a lot of other characters to fit them into their world as they built it.
Nasus and Renekton for example, they used to be from another world and just ended up in Runeterra due to some inter-dimensional portals. New lore has them both related to the old Egyptian style kingdom on Runeterra itself now, so I kind of understand that change and others like it.
Annie's change just seems a bit odd, since her original story fit into the world they had built as is. So I honestly have little idea why they changed her. It 'might' have something to do with the story that her original character design was based on one of the game dev's girlfriends. They might have moved to distance her from a possible real world connection/inspiration. Can't say for sure.
I played her as my main character back in Beta through to season 5 or so (about 2009-2015) and even played in a small professional league in 2013. So personally I will always prefer her stronger back story to the new one.
From what i can read from your comment, the old One don't seem more drammatic. I would say that this Is Better becouse Annie Is good ( She Is chield) but also evil, while the old Is like : Annie ( good) vs hunter( evil). Plus this Is more drammatic becouse you can understand Annie but also the mother. At the end, i am saying that you should change your opinion, you can still prefer the old One without problem.
@@chi-kenguerriero5138 It's less about Annie herself and more about her powers and where they came from. The new story does not really explain it other than to suggest that Tibbers himself is her power source. The old version has both her parents as powerful mages and her as a prodigy child mage so her powers are fully explained and make sense.
To me the newer version of her lore does not make logical sense with her in game abilities. If Tibbers IS the source of her power then all of her spells should come from him in some way, only her Ult does that at all. Basically in making a nice video and story they have broken a logical explanation.
@@Ishlacorrin I know its been a year since you posted this but she deffinitrly doesnt get the powers from tibbers. Its her own powers (like the original lore) but she just cant control them. Her mother was a strong pyromantic mage but she died giving birth to annie. So she inherehts it but there is also some more believed lore for annie being more sinister then expected but nothing concrete i dont think. Watch necrits video on her, its a very good explanation! Anyway In the new lore she never summons tibbers on command, its usually a last resort due to her emotions such as being in fear of her life. I dont remember it exactly, but the soul of the step sister is what animates tibbers when it is needed or smth. And in the new lore while she has great magical potential she never fully utilises it due to never getting training or learning how to wield it. It is a tragic story through and through and i love it for that.
